Many Cards and other creatures of this world possess the ability to change between shapes at will. As players advance, their SD may eventually be able to gain access to newer and more powerful forms.
The three forms available are as follows: Animal, Bipedal, and Human. Below is more information on each form's significance, as well as information about birth-forms. Ah, politics, they smell of delicious coffee...
Animal: Just as Clubs are the most common Suit, Animal is the most common form. People are usually born into the basic body of a normal-looking Animal, marked with the distinctive colorations and patterns of their Realm. It is highly unusual for Animals to wear clothing, but it is not unheard of, especially if an aspiring Ten or Jack has been unable to acquire one of the "higher-ranked" forms and is attempting to better themselves with accessories.
Other forms may be achieved in a variety of ways; RP, points, favors, and quests are all ways to achieve an anthro or human form for your creature.
Bipedal: Being upright coincides with the "upper class" form of the world. Being in this form gives the higher-ups less power over your creature, as the form itself demands at least some respect. It's hard to talk down to someone in an anthromorphic form. Not impossible, certainly, but it would be the equivalent of grabbing a passing businessman in a nice suit and browbeating him.
This form will greatly resemble your Animal form in build and type, but it will offer the ability to walk upright, perform better magics, and work with hand-like appendages. Everyone loves thumbs! It is less unusual for Bipedal forms to don clothing, or, at the very least, some decorations. At that point it's worth showing off your progress to society.
It's not as common for your SD to be born as a Bipedal. Two creatures who possess a Bipedal form and mate have a higher chance at Bipedal offspring. Everyone has a chance at a natural-born Bipedal, it's just less likely.
Every Bipedal form has an Animal form that the creature can revert to if they have need. For example, perhaps this creature is a Seven of Spades. He has gained a Bipedal form and wears it proudly to work, and to show off to his friends. However, his mother and fiancé have yet to progress beyond Animal and it looks as though they never will. The Seven is probably more comfortable around them in his animal form so as not to embarrass them or make them feel as though he is lording it over them.
Human: The Human form is the most favored by Card society. Having a Human form enables a creature to have better control of their magic and to be seen as more attractive and mysterious. Human faces and expressions are more difficult for most people to read and interpret in this society, making those who have them appear formidable and powerful; even if they are not, they will usually earn respect from the reputation.
It is incredibly rare to have a naturally born Human. It will normally only occur if two very powerful and/or already Human parent(s) conceive. By powerful, we mean high-end face cards, like the Queen of Diamonds and King of Spades having a child. The human form will usually translate fur markings into the hair and the skin tone will match the overall mood of the coat in the creature's other forms.
The Human form can be achieved through points, quests, and plot needs. PM Nathalia or Jenn if you would like to advance your creature to this point. The Human form can also revert back to the Animal and Bipedal forms at will, though with the honor of this form being attained, they are less likely to take lesser forms in public view.
Birth Forms: Kids can be born in any form, but some are more likely than others. Most children will be born as Animals, though there is a small chance for them to be born Bipedal. The chance becomes slimmer if the parents have not achieved that level. A natural-born Human is exceedingly hard to come by, usually requiring high ranking and/or already Human-formed parent(s).
Babies are born in one form and do not gain the ability to change to another until they are fully grown, so a Bipedal child would not be able to take on his Animal form until he had grown, and a Human would be stuck in that one form until it was older and learned to control its body.
