In the days following the seeming extinction of the Lowlands, Sorcha's life had become an endless chain of reports of seeming Lowland mixes in the Capital that people thought the police should know about. Very few reports ended in anything of note, a simple fact that made the Bog woman's heart drop further and further with each passing day. After all, it seemed like with all the reports they were getting, at least some of them would be accurate... But instead it was case after case of mistaken identity. Beyond the survivors that they already knew about, there just... didn't seem to be anyone. Yet the reports continued to stream in, each one more frantic than the last. This one had come from a group of Josiggies who reported a supposed Lowland mix (" Yeh, it's got th' Solandrian blue stuff, but there's purple too an' the brown's not right!") who had been lurking around and looking surly. They just wanted someone to check it out and maybe point the poor soul to the general direction of the survivor's group that had assembled. Partly for her own curiosity (and skilled eye at telling what was Lowland and what was Solandrian or Bog) and partly for the simple desire to get outside and walk. Maybe she could pick something up for Beraht on her way out. The young officer approached the area where the supposed Lowlander had been spotted, walking at a leisurely pace. Her uniform was crisp and clean, her lights glowing merrily. When she arrived at the location, there was no one to be seen - quietly, Sorcha sighed. Oh well. Perhaps they would be back? It seemed a waste to head back without looking around a bit more.

She decided to leave the Capitol a few days early. The world had changed an unbelievable amount since she'd been gone. There was an amazing amount of people who could not tell the difference between an actual Lowland mix and some other realm with brown and purple. The overbearing sympathy she got from some people was annoying. The blatant harassment from others wore out its welcome even faster. She slipped into a shop to give a few Josiggies the slip. She could have crushed them easily, but preferred the peaceful route. They seemed to be gone, so she emerged from the shop she never intended to buy anything from and back out onto the street. She blinked... was that--? "Sorcha?" she muttered to herself, laughing. To just run into her sister like this? Very amusing. Siku sneezed, looking out for the Cards that had given off threatening energy at her Master. She trotted up behind her. "Excuse me, Officer. I'd like to report some trouble making I witnessed."

The first sound to reach Sorcha's ears was the sneeze of a Bander. Almost immediately, her hackles rose, eyes widening. That was not a sound that anyone wanted to hear, especially not an officer poking around in one of the backalleys. She spun to face whoever was approaching, her eyes catching first a glimpse of brown and then blue and then...
Her brain stopped working.
She didn't even fully recognize that what stood before her was not Lowlander. All she saw was her sister, a sister she hadn't seen since before her father had died. She couldn't even come up with a witty retort to Tegan's statement, just let out a gasp and raced forward, enfolding the other woman in her leathery wings and clinging tightly. "Suits -- It's really you," She mumbled, wondering if this was some kind of cruel trick. Was Beraht fucking with her? Seemed unlikely... "You -- What -- Where the hell have you been?!"

Tegan smiled broadly and trotted forward to meet her sister. She leaned her head into her sister's shoulder, enjoying the embrace.
"That, my dear sister, is a long story. Long enough that I'm sure your superior officers would not appreciate you taking time away from cracking heads to listen to." She sighed happily and separated from the embrace. She took another good look at Sorcha. "Suits, aren't you cute in your uniform!" she laughed then shook her head.
"Why don't we pick somewhere to meet when you're off work? I'd hate for you to get in trouble for my sake. You off around dinner? I'll treat." As strong as the feeling was, for some reason she couldn't say how happy she was to see Sorcha again. Might have had something to do with the somewhat overwhelming reunion when she returned to the Court of Hearts.

Sorcha's mind was whirling. It was good that Tegan was so confident and sure of herself (as she always seemed to be!), as it provided the other girl a better foundation for her own emotions. It had just - it had been so long, so unbelievably long, and seeing her sister here in the middle of the Capital like no time at all had passed (except where it most obviously had, in the other woman's newfound traits) just felt surreal. Never in her wildest dreams...
In the end, though, it didn't matter. Sorcha closed her eyes for a moment and gave Tegan another tight squeeze, then released her and sat back so they could better talk.
"You're probably right..." She commented, a little sadly. Even though this report had been another case of mistaken identity, she still needed to report back and fill out the paperwork that made it all official. Normally, this wouldn't bother her, but it was getting in the way of her chance to make up for lost time with her sister. The woman laughed wryly at the jape about her uniform, striking a pose and using a wing-claw to tug at her collar. Then she flicked her head, giving Tegan an even stare and letting her voice drop slightly. "Move along, civilian, nothing to see here."
She let the act drop in a second. "Highland Hills, sister, I cannot tell you how much I missed you. I'm off in an hour - and dinner sounds excellent. There's a little tavern not too far from here, they make a mean mutton stew.[/b]" There was so much for them to talk about, and it was a homey kind of place, full of warm smells and good hearty food. "Say we meet there in two hours? Gives me a chance to get home and changed and let the man know I'm safe. You wouldn't want him worrying, trust me."

Tegan wondered how much Sorcha had changed and how much Tegan herself had forgotten. Some serious sit-down time was definitely needed. Two hours wasn't so long too wait. It'll be enough time to get her reacquainted with the Capital.
"Ohh, 'the Man', huh? I've heard rumors of you living with some guy. Can I meet him?" There was mostly mystery surrounding this boyfriend of Sorcha's. Heilyn didn't seem to hate him, but didn't really seem to be too crazy about him, either. "And you're going to be a little more specific about that tavern. It's been 6 years. What if I met you outside the police station after work? Now that I think about it, I don't know if I can handle much more being mistaken for a Lowland mix without punching someone," she laughed lightly. However there was a tone to her voice that said "that joke was actually serious".

There was a familiar warmth burning in Sorcha's cheeks at the subject of her live-in boyfriend. Beraht was a topic that was often on her mind, but rarely talked about. Heilyn didn't seem to want to discuss him, and work conversations almost never swung to the subject of romance. Sorcha was fine with that - she saw no real reason to put her personal life on public display. But this was her sister! They had discussed crushes in the dark when they'd been little, whispered secrets to be kept from their brothers. It just seemed different. "You know, if you want, you can meet him tonight. I can ask him to join us..." That would be good.
Maybe.
She hoped. Beraht in a public place was always a grabbag of surprises. But she enjoyed his surprises, and this was regarding family. He knew how important her family was to her.
A quiet laugh escaped her, mouth curling into a toothy smirk. "Fair enough. We'll go from there to my place and hopefully pick up 'the man', and then get something to eat." Slowly, her smirk relaxed into a softer smile. "I'm looking forward to it."

Tegan smirked at the sight of the red appearing under her sister's white fur. Cute.
"That sounds wonderful. We can catch up and have girl talk on the way to pick him up so we don't have to subject him to it," she winked. Must be some guy to get that kind of reaction just by talking about him... Tegan had only one person in her life that came close. Damn shame her life ended with her head on a pike. Damn shame.
Tossing aside side thoughts, Tegan smiled again. "As do I, 'Cha. As much as I hate to pull myself away, I won't keep you from your job any longer. You have far more important things to do right now. I will see you after work, lady." Putting a paw on each of Sorcha's cheeks, she gently pulled her sister's head forward to plant a kiss on her forehead.
