So I wrote this fic a while ago. And I couldn't find the ending to it for the life of me. I found it. Thank you dice for smacking Theofilus in the face. I has my muse back.
---
"I love you" never felt so cold. Theofilus was in his human form, sprawled out on his bed, he had taken his coat, tie and shirt off. His top hat was thrown on a rack and his cane was somewhere on the floor. He closed his eyes tight, his glasses were on the dresser. He didn't know what was comfortable anymore. He didn't know what to think anymore.
He had used his power. He had gotten a vision that was completely unclear. He just knew it was painful. Something horrible. It wouldn't leave his mind. It just clung there and tempted him. His heart felt like it was breaking with every breath he took. So painful.
But Theofilus had Eilwyn to take care of. That and Calia was pregnant.
But not by him.
He suddenly shivered and curled up into a ball. He never expected to fall in love. He never wanted to. Fate was cruel. He had fallen in love with two women. One of which he had five children, the other who he had none with. Calia and Kelasia. Two completely different people. Both he had undying affection for. He frowned though. Kelasia wanted children with him, he knew it. She wouldn't stop trying until they had.
That was the problem though. Theofilus didn't know if he could deal with it now. So what did Kelasia do? She managed to get Calia pregnant. Theofilus was excited for the baby. A new member of the family, but it all seemed wrong. Everything seemed wrong after the Lowlands. Everything. Every moment he spent with the people he loved, his rank raise and.... he was now a Queen? He didn't know if this was good or bad. He had always wanted it but...
Something had to go wrong.
His children were all grown up and now... now he had another one to take care of, and another on the way. It seemed too much for him to carry. He had to take responsibility, Kelasia wouldn't be a good father would she now? Theofilus could easily be wrong, but he knew full well what was expected of him.
It hurt so much. He took a deep breath as he clutched his chest. This was so far from healthy. Plenty of people would have scolded him for this. Plenty of people, but he didn't care at the moment. Suddenly he sat up, this was insane. He was being weak, pathetic, and most of all selfish. It wasn't all about him or his heart breaking, was it now? He had to be strong for the family's sake. didn't he?
Everything was going fantastic for them. Everything was going to be right. They were a family moving up in the courts. Nothing was going to stop them so easily. Nothing. He put his face in his hands. "Something is going to happen..." he muttered to himself. When Kelasia or Calia said the words he longed to hear they all seemed hollow now. He didn't care who the women slept with. that wasn't it. He just wanted to be happy with them. Nothing more than happy but... it hurt.
He had failed them. He felt the tears slide down his face. So weak. He couldn't even protect the ones he cared about. He failed everyone, just like Myron.
--
He wasn't entirely sure why Calia had that look on her face. She was beyond horrified by his presence. No one, not a single person would tell him what was wrong. He looked to Calia and then to the child. "What's wrong?" he asked.
The room remained silent. It was as if everyone was holding their breath. The nurse in the corner had a horrified look on her face as she stared at the Queen. His eyebrow twitched, "May I at least see the baby?"
The nurse looked frantically between Calia and Theofilus. In a seemingly split decision she carefully took the baby from it's unresponsive mother and placed it into Theofilus' arms. He looked down at the baby in his arms. A mix realm skunk, and from what the nurse quickly muttered a girl. The man carefully shifted the blankets, and suddenly froze.
The letter "A" was on her chest.
Something in Theofilus' heart broke. He didn't need to know anything else that was wrong, he was sure there was something else they were keeping from him. His scrying earlier must have been about this... this...
He shook his head and choked back his tears. He just couldn't break down. She had no hope, no future. Just the family. They were the only thing that would keep her safe. She had nothing.
"She's beautiful," was all Theofilus could say.
