Dilis was besides herself; she felt so many emotions (anger, sadness, depression) that she was not sure what to do. She could not think of anything but getting away, she got halfway down the path when she heard it.
Someone was calling her name-no yelling her name and it sounded like it was Prelude. She suddenly remembered she had kind of left poor Prelude without a word when he had been so kind as to accompany her and she had just left him.
She turned around quickly to face Prelude. "I... I'm sorry, I just... I just had to get out of there. Everything happened so fast and I just could not take it. I am terribly sorry, I was not raised to behave that way... I just worked so hard and now-" She stopped herself so as not to cry again, Father had taught her it was terribly impolite to do things like that in front of others.

"No worries, my dear."[/b] He smiled warmly, reassuring her that he did not feel a sense of uneasiness within himself, only concern for her own happiness. His face was pleasant and inviting. He offered a hug by slowly putting his arms on her shoulders. He looked into her eyes, and then hugged her slowly. He could not tell immediately if she was pulling away, if that he had been too forward, too quickly. But he figured it was worth a shot. "If there is anything else you need, you have to promise that you will let me know, deal? Last thing I need is to worry about someone who seems to have nothing but the best possible intentions. God--or whatever deity you wish to acknowledge--knows that I would be hard pressed to be of very much use to you in such a fragile state, while I am in my own troubling state of mind."[/b][/i]

So many thoughts raced in her head but one stayed fresh.... he had grabbed her and was now hugging her to himself. She was not used to physical contact... she kind of liked it; it comforted her to know someone else cared about her. Father did not show he loved her in this way. This was new and wonderful and she could not come up with the words for it. She just knew he was there when the world seemed a bad place and she was grateful to him for it. But one thought nagged at her... what did he want from her? Usually people were only nice to her when they wanted to get something from her.. she wished so badly that she did not have to feel paranoid but she did. For now though, she would just enjoy the moment and nuzzled his neck.
Recovering, she looked up at him and smiled. "Yes, I promise; th-thank you.. for everything. I just-thank you." She wiped her tears and hugged him back. If the world had ended at that moment she would have been happy because she knew what it was to care about a person and have it returned.

"I need to get some rest, and soon!"[/i] He looked around, wonderingly. "So what next? I'm sure you have a home to get to, a family who is most likely waiting for you..."[/i] He started to notice that he was on the verge of rambling aimlessly once more, and stopped himself before it came to that point.
He did, however, half wonder if he should ask the lovely lady for a brief stay at the home (the bed, mostly) of Dilis. His mind raced as he argued with himself about the politeness of such a request. It seemed so bold, but he could not deny that rest was devastatingly urgent at this point.
"Hey, Dilis?"[/i] He had almost a shameful look in his eyes, but he started to speak, so it was now or never. "Do you think it would be OK if I took a brief stay at your home? It would be only for a quick nap. That's all I would need, and then I could be on my way as quickly as I came."[/i]

"Actually, I am alone for the weekend. Father went to town for some business and will return on Monday." She was curious as to the reason but it looked like he had a question on his mind so she let him continue.
"Yes, Prelude?" He seemed to be struggling with the words so she smiled at him encouragingly.
"My-my home? Well... not sure if it would be terribly proper but it would be wrong of me not to lend you a hand in your time of need. You were so kind to me earlier, it is the least I can do. You may stay at my home for the night and when you are rested up tomorrow, you may come and go as you like." Father always told her that no one would be kind to her if she was not kind first so she thought he may not disapprove. She would just make sure they were not to sleep in the same room; though she liked him quite a bit, that would certainly not be lady-like.
"Well, let us go then. It is a bit of a journey to Avington and if you are not careful, you could certainly get lost. Those not from Avington have a very hard time getting there."

He certainly agreed with hurrying. If he did not get sleep soon, he would certainly be getting an unexpected nap... permenantly. "Yes," he concurred. "Indeed. I gather it would not be favorable to get lost in a place like this. It already gives me the willies to begin with."
They started down the road again. Prelude, hoping to hasten the journey as much as possible, began to trot slightly faster now, but still watching Dilis to make sure he would not stray from her path and get himself lost. Then he reconsidered his decision, and opted to slow back down to the modes speed at which he was travelling, because he realized that speeding up would make him lose his breath, and even the slightest bit of loss of breath could send him to the ground in an instant. And he wasn't sure if that would have meant death for him, but he was not looking forward to finding out. He kept his cool, but kept his pace steady so as to not hold up their travels, staying close to Dilis.

They neared close to her home and she turned to him. "We need to be swift about this, though Father is out of town he has eyes everywhere and I would rather him not find out about this." As they got to the house, she opened the door slowly making sure there was no one there. Then she held it open for Prelude.
"The couch is free and my bed is free, it is really up to you which you feel more comfortable in. What do you think?" She asked with a bright blush on her face. She had never had a boy in her bedroom before, she would never have dreamed before of that happening but here they were.
She opened her bedroom door to make sure that her room was tidy and showed him around. "This is my room, Fathers room is next door and the bathroom is down the hall to the right if you should need it. Otherwise, I am going to sit out on the grass and read while you rest if you would not mind."

"Thank you," he almost asserted it. "I can not quite say how much I appreciate this of you." He smiled warmly, looking into her eyes for just a quick moment, exploring the possibility that her frame of mind leaned towards a direction that is parallel to his; and he thought it could be love. But he pushed the idea aside for a moment, and all others with it. He would finally get the rest he so desired.
When he did wake up, he felt brand new. Well, maybe not, but it was the first thing that he could think of to describe it. He could now go about the rest of his day. But what he wasn't sure of, was just what the rest of his day would consist of. He was sure he would find some way to get into an adventurous situation soon enough. He always could count on an adventure to get him through his day.
