Conway shifted enough that he could drink the medicine. He could taste the bitterness through the tea now that he could taste things again. It wasn't a terrible taste if it was going to make him feel better. Once he completely drained the cup he handed it to Javaid.
He had a really pretty voice. It still really confused Conway as to how something like that could come from something like him. He shook off the thought a bit as he watched Javaid. Really, what could he say to break the silence? It's not like Conway talked to anyone all that much besides his sister.
And that... that last meeting hadn't gone well at all. She was so angry with him about disappearing. Letting his guard down for a moment, Conway sighed, looking rather miserable. He really was an idiot. When he realized that he was still staring at the man, his eyes widened briefly before he looked away.

Javaid could see the small reactions to the medicine displayed now and was pleased to see his taste was coming back to him. Hopefully that meant he'd be getting an appetite sometime... The jackal turned back just in time to see Conway's gaze become somewhat distant and for a heavy sigh to topple off his lips.
O... What?
Conway's expression absolutely baffled Javaid and, for a moment, left the jackal at an utter loss of words. His cheeks flushed heavily and he dipped his head, staring down at his lap and the hands that clasped there nervously. "Uhm, Conway? Is everything alright? ...Something looked as if it were bothering you?" For all that Javaid didn't want anything to be bothering Conway, he also had no clue what to do with what that look might have possibly been suggesting.
O, bones of my ancestors, why did he have to look at him like that? He'd already been thinking a world of things that should have never even crossed his mind!

Conway raised an eyebrow. What the hell was this all of a sudden? He sounded... really weird. What was he thinking about? The young Hisstor squeezed his eyes shut for a moment before actually talking.
"I'm fine, I'm sorry. I was just thinking about so serious things. It's nothing you did." Conway shook his head as he spoke. Javaid had been nice to him this entire time. He didn't ask any weird questions about family. He had helped him to this point, and Conway was almost better. Well, he actually had a long way to go, but he would ignore that for the time being.
He felt like an idiot. Conway brushed his hand through his hair as he shifted in the bed. He wished her could pretend all of this never happened. It was happening though, and he had obviously screwed up if Javaid was nervous. "I'm sorry... really...."

Javaid bit his tongue decidedly when Conway spoke, relieved and yet...disappointed? Oi, he was going to hate himself for all these thoughts later on. For now, however, Conway had admitted it was nothing to do with Javaid and Javaid wouldn't allow his strange thoughts to make them both awkward any longer.
With a soft sigh of relief, he nodded his head and tucked his fluttering nerves away where they belonged until his blush slowly faded from view. No good would come of thinking things like that...not when the poor boy didn't even understand what it was that was causing the male's nerves to flutter so. Social situations were so complicated.
"Ah, no. It's alright... I was just afraid there was something wrong." Not entirely the truth, but it was better as a white lie than what he had really been thinking. The jackal hesitated for a moment before offering a soft smile. "Is it anything I could help you with, perhaps?"

"Unless you can fix a broken family, then there's nothing you can do," Conway said quietly. He had no idea why that actually came out of him, but he had said it so Javaid could here him. Being spiteful wasn't something he should do. Damn it.
The young man flopped into his pillow face first. He didn't want to talk anymore. He had already said far too much, and really he didn't want to dig himself in a hole he couldn't get out of. He remained silent and waited for Javaid to say something. Why wouldn't he after a comment like that?
Idiot. Such an idiot. His hands dug into the pillow as he bit his lip. Hopefully he wouldn't bleed for the bite, he couldn't imagine that would go over well with his caretaker.
He wanted to leave, but he knew full well he wouldn't make it very far.

Javaid frowned slightly, his expression a mixture of sadness and understanding. Like most from his region, Javaid valued family a great deal and had wondered why the boy had not asked to be taken to a nearby relative, especially being in his home region. Well, he supposed this answered quite a few of his questions in one short, bittersweet package for all that it didn't soothe him any.
Conway didn't have any family, then..? or only pieces of a family. It was hard to tell without pressing inappropriate questions, but it was unfortunate whatever the situation might be.
"I'm afraid I can't." Which was a rehtorical answer to a rhetorical question, whatever. "I don't want to press -- so if you're not willing to say more, I understand --, but does that mean you've got no where else to go?" The jackal shook his head lightly, not entirely sure how to proceed, so he simply said what was on his mind. "I'm always here, really. So if you ever need a place to stay, my home's open."
There, he'd said it, and now he felt just as awkward as Conway looked like he did while burying himself in the pillows. Oi, what had he just done?

Conway winced at the last part of his statement. He could feel tears trickling down his face. No, no, no! Why now of all times did he have to go and cry over nothing? Over something he could never really have. It was an offer, that's all. He could never take the man up on it. He was a Joker after all--and a Joker could never really be safe. He couldn't anyway. He had killed the Queen of Hearts.
Even if no one else knew, he did. He would always remember screwing up a good deal of society so he could get money to save his sister. And he destroyed a family.
He let out a horrible whimper as he tried to bury himself deeper in the pillow. Running away was a lot easier when you could walk. As soon as he was capable he would leave. He had to leave.

Javaid didn't know how to react.
Conway, by all appearance, looked as if he'd been literally struck by Javaid's offer and...well, Javaid just didn't understand. How was he expected to? Slowly he drew closer, reaching out to run slender fingers through the boy's hair.
"Please, don't let me upset you, Conway. If I said something wrong, I... I apologize." His brow's furrowed, trying to find the words to say what he meant without further disrupting the situation at hand. He just wanted to make the boy well and comfortable. "It's not as though I'd be offended if you don't stay." It was something the living just didn't do, they came and went but no one was entirely comfortable in his home or his presence. "It was just an offer, and it'll still stand."
He sighed a little, wondering if he was only making the situation worse while he was trying to fix it. That'd be quite like him, wouldn't it?

Conway's body completely tensed when he felt the man's fingers in his hair. No, no he didn't like that at all. He let out a soft growl, making sure that Javaid heard it. It didn't matter what he was saying at the moment. The man should not have decided it was "okay" to touch him.
Wherever Conway got the strength from, he didn't have it for long. Somehow he whipped around enough to be on his back and smack Javaid's hand away. He didn't do it very hard. He didn't have the strength for it. Falling back down into the pillow he gave a small whimper at falling back on his spine in an awkward manner.
He really didn't want to deal with this. "Don't touch me like that," he muttered. As comforting as it was to some people, it wasn't for him. He didn't need reminders of his mother.
