When the woman pulled out the hidden dagger, Lawrence's eyes bugged out slightly and he quickly averted his gaze, though... he couldn't help a few surreptitious glances. He wasn't entirely certain not bringing the daggers was wise, his own spear leaned against the column beside him, at least because of the area they were supposed to go through. Of course her Excellence Sekhmet knew wot she was doing and she did have other weapons.
The raccoon called over a lower Heart and handed over the daggers with stern directions of where to take them and how to leave them. The canine bobbed a curtsy to them both and quickly trotted off, leaving the pair alone again as Lawrence continued to try avoid looking at the woman's rather nice chest. Ahem. VERY nice. Focus.
Surprise and shock painted Lawrence's face at Sekhmet's words regarding Queen Rai's orders. "How are you supposed to... oh." His gaze dropped once towards the Jack's chest again before he quickly looked away. Wot a strange thing for Queen Rai to want from his potential King. He shook his head; it was none of his concern. He was just a guide.
"Uhm... wh-whenever, you're ready, your Excellency."
(( Feel free to either do a final 'leaving' post or simply reply to the new thread in the Marsh once i get it up. )) ---------------------------------------------------------------- As they moved away from the Palace, a red form silently watched the two retreating Hearts. A figure within the shadows of the pillars watched as well.
"It's not fair." The ram still sported his lovely black eye.
"Much in life isn't fair."
Samid sighed unhappily, not pointing out the obvious to his employer.
"You're on vacation, Samid. Go away for a few days."
The ram said nothing.

Sekhmet smirked knowingly at the bulging of the raccoon's eyes, it was unusual for someone to just... whip weapons out of nowhere. She had a long katana-like sword down her spine that she kept for any... other, unanticipated combat. It would have been noticible as her hair was up to avoid any... catfighting, but her wings did the job of concealing it perfectly, even better than just an outfit and the hair would have done. The raccoon truly didn't seem to have any prior knowledge of what her task was, and his surprise at every little detail confirmed that. Well, it might have been good that she didn't go into detail and give too much more away than she already had, then. It seemed this was to be very under wraps, even in the court itself.
She almost laughed out loud as the male's eyes couldn't seem to stay from the ripe rise of her chest, pushed up like an offering of sweet, and very forbidden, fruit. She felt bad for having accidentally taunted him so, she should have been more conservative remembering his initial reaction to her appearance when he entered her room. Oh well. Unfortunately the show wasn't for him, but if he wanted to gape, she wasn't offended. There had been a reason behind her actions after all, and she was no stranger to being openly gawked at. "Let us be off then, Lawrence." This was going to be an interesting trip indeed.
The backup was welcome, though she would have liked to see him in a few practice sparring matches first. Not that she was, by any means, a combat expert and therefore everyone else was inferior, but she just liked to know how much she could count on the raccoon to keep himself out of trouble and to have her back if she needed it. Though relying on others made her twitch, when outnumbered, it was necessary. She felt a tightness in her shoulders like eyes on her back, but an inconscpicuous glance behind her revealed nothing. Shrugging it off as nervousness, she made for the open gate, eyeing Lawrence's spear with approval. She rather liked using them herself.
Well, here we go...
((kay! *goes to look for thread* ^___^))

~ 15 Days later; Early Evening ~
"Your Majesty..." the low voice interrupted the Queen's thoughts and grey-green eyes swiftly went to the Morganberry ram who waited for his approval before entering. He gave an absent wave for the man to come in and Samid stepped forward. The ram's face was better; the black eye had healed up nicely and there were no lasting marks.
"Wot is it, Samid?" the stallion tried to keep his exasperation out of his voice; he wasn't annoyed at the Morganberry after all, just the negotiation papers he had to work on.
"They've returned." The ram managed to keep his voice completely even.
To this news, Rai's ears perked up and he sent the ram a shrewd, sideways glance. "Have they..." Again, a question that wasn't really. "I guess we'll just wait and see how she decides to present her news."
"Yes, your Majesty."

Sekhmet walked up to the door and knocked confidently, her two companions in tow behind her. Elias had put up little fuss about going straight to see the Queen after having read the letter, something which had made her all the more curious, and brought up an interesting thought. Should she admit that his letter had been the only thing to sway the canine's decision into coming? Or... would he already know that? She still didn't know if he honestly expected her to be able to come up with something amazing enough, that he couldn't offer himself, to get Elias to come along willingly. Perhaps the lesson had merely been to try her hardest and think outside the box, and that power and title alone wouldn't solve all of her problems. Come to think of it, the canine had shown little respect for the J on her chest. Hmmm.
"Your majesty Shinrai? It's Sekhmet, I have completed your quest." She said after the initial knocking, waiting for him to accept her inside. Her stomach did a double flip, even knowing the quest was technically done wasn't enough. She just had to hear that he was pleased before she gave herself even the slightest pat on the back for having gone through it. Having high expectations for herself, it was understandable that she needed his praise to know she'd done well. When she was given the consent to enter, she did so with a face that did not betray her inner turmoil, and a walk that spoke of confidence and sureness in herself and her achievement.
"Greetings again your majesty, I hope I have not been away too long." She bowed after this, deep and graceful though her legs protested from all of the walking she'd been doing lately. When she rose, her eyes met his before flicking to the canine behind her. To her knowledge, she'd been right on time with the Queen's expectations, but her time keeping had become rough over the last few days home, everything had started to blend together and she'd lost count of the rising of moons.
"I have brought the stranger- Elias- with me, I anticipated you wanting to speak to him as soon as possible." After this, she waited to see the 'taur's reaction to the whole thing, and of course, His Majesty's. Lawrence had been a passive presence at her back during the entire trip home, and it hadn't stopped when they arrived. She wondered if the canine intimidated him into silence, or if perhaps he'd been worn out more than she'd thought. Hopefully the pace on the way back hadn't been too much for him.

The room was large enough, but what surprised Elias was the fact that the guards he expected were conspicuously absent. Interesting.
He bowed from the waist when Sekhmet did, front legs straight, rear legs bunched. He stayed that way during Sekhmet's speech, refraining from comment both because he was in a court now, and there were mores to observe, and to keep from drawing attention to himself.
Suddenly, though, he sprang forward, hind legs propelling him toward the Queen, while he simultaneously pulled a dagger from his harness. "HA!" he shouted as he landed in front of the table, over-turning it with one hand and thrusting the dagger forward with the other. He hoped that the papers on the table weren't important court business, but at the same time, he really didn't care. Did Rai have bones surrounding his eye? And what was up with that leather sleeve? He'd have to ask about that.

Samid stood to one side of the door, his purpose fulfilled once the group had entered, but the Morganberry did not leave as he likely could have. Instead Larry took up a post near him and the two non-entities, as it were, remained silent observers for the rest of the interview.
Rai listened silently as Sekhmet made her proclamation. His face was a mask, hiding wotever he might be thinking about her, the entrance, the man, or even her speech. There was contemplation in those grey-green eyes, and then it didn't matter wot she said or did, the canine was leaping forward with a naked blade in hand.
Still, the Queen didn't seem overly surprised, instead lashing his whip around and leaping from his chair with no regard for the costly furniture's fate. Where it came from, it was hard to say, but the stallion had his own dagger in his right hand to parry the flashing blade. His left hand, weaker in its pure bone state, could still wield the whip expertly. The end shot swiftly out and around, wrapping swiftly around the canine's throat. The stallion was proficient enough that he knew exactly how much pressure to exert to simply put some pressure around El's neck versus actually begin choking the other man.

Dagger pointed, Elias paused in the stalemate, before breaking into a broad wolf-grin. "Good to see you again, kid," he said, putting his dagger away. "Sent the guards away for my sake, did you?"
He stepped back, hands up to demonstrate that he was no longer a threat. He looked the Heart up and down. He had hair now, so that was good, El supposed. "What in the world's wrong with your eye?" he asked his former ward. "You goin' Lowlander on me?" he meant it as a joke, but he'd also heard of stranger things happening.
Being a Queen sat well on Whip. It sat well with Elias, as well. The kid was making some good contacts or else he wouldn't be a Queen in the court, and hopefully he was working to make alliances and unions in the other courts as well. Then, maybe they could finally fully swing their campaign into action.

Sekhmet started when the canine lept forward, her own sword coming out without thinking, but a little too slow to stop the canine in his tracks as she should have. Stupid, stupid of her to let her guard down around him just because he claimed to have nothing bad between himself and the Queen! Just as she moved forward, she noticed that Queen Shinrai himself was up and moving to deflect the attack, not with magic, but with his own weapons. She halted only when the whip came out, trying to stay out of the way until she heard the canine speak.
Oh. So apparently they did the deathmatch faceoff often then. Well, she felt a bit awkward standing there with her weapon out, but discomfort didn't allow her to put it back on her back sheath just yet. Call her paranoid, but one close call, however joking it might have been, was lesson enough for her. As Elias stepped back with his hands up, she moved back a few paces, listening to the conversation that was building between him and Shinrai.
Not wanting to butt in in the least, she waited for His Majesty to address her, not being able to guage anything from his features, and his lack of addressing her was slightly worrying. Though, from their meetings in the past she'd noticed he liked to play these little head games that seemed to come naturally with being a Queen. At least it taught her patience, something she was born without, admittedly.

Rai twitched the whip handle easily, the binding length loosening and snaking just as swiftly the floor. He hoped there wouldn't be too terribly many rumours from this incident but, a swift glance to Lawrence's shocked and open-jawed expression said that perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad thing for people to hear about. Paranoia first, followed by caution.
"I couldn't have them taking you down before you had your failed attempt," the stallion teased back. His grey-green gaze went to the woman, giving a small nod to indicate that it was safe for her to sheath her weapon. He was pleasantly surprised by her reaction time as well. While she couldn't match his or El's draw-- they'd been having these kinds of sudden attacks for over 15 years-- she still would have been one of the first of the onlookers to leap into the fray. He seriously hadn't expected that and it was a bit of a relief.
Court was not an overly safe place to be, for all the assassins did not currently crawl all over the area. Rai expected more to appear as the Queen Serafino continued to fill up the Court slots with the power-hungered and hopeful.
Despite her success, be that as it may or may not be, Rai was still worried about the beautiful woman. This quest did not test her in traditional matters, but in the ways he would need her. He was 'only' -a- Queen; he needed the politically savvy and overlooked, not the strong arms of the Court. Fino needed those.
Recalling his attention, the equine continued to let the personal matter draw out before Sekhmet's attention; she seemed to be paying closer attention now, which was yet another pleasant outcome of her Quest. The stallion tended to play his cards very close to his chest and chances were strong that his Kings would be the same way.
Humour slipped away at El's joke and Rai seriously raised his left hand, flipping back the long leather sleeve to bare the bone appendage. He squeezed it in a fist, the fingers clicking lightly against his palm bones. Here, then, was the moment of truth. The stallion had no idea how El would react to this particular surprise.
