Thyme listened to him and then took a deep breath, turning her head to stare at her aunt. She felt very twitchy right now. "His parents' names were Ares and Indera, Aunt Josephine. Unless you made him forget and told him something else. There seems to be a problem with his memories. Do you have any thoughts?"
She didn't want to be disrespectful, per se, but doing this still left her feeling extremely off-kilter. She wasn't really sure what she was doing, or what her aunt ultimately wanted out of this little session, or who the young man really was. She didn't even know his name. That bothered her.
Still looking at her aunt and giving no indication otherwise, she continued to speak with him. Josephine probably wouldn't be able to tell. I don't know why she hurt you. If you keep being nice and cooperative, I can make it so that your mouth comes back tomorrow instead of staying sealed shut forever.

Oh so everything had worked out perfectly. Her client would be very pleased. It was nice to have someone who could double check your handy work for you. "Well, it seems that my plan was perfect if he told you that information. You did well Thyme. I needed someone to check his memories before I returned dear Edger to his lovely Spade mother." She smirked as the boy. Stupid cats got what they deserved in the end.
Okay... said the feline mentally with a shiver. That scary woman said he was going home then? That would be nice. And he would be able to eat and talk and sing again. The tears rolled down his cheeks as he remained slipped out of his protective ball to hand the wolf the golden thing that she had given him. He wasn't going to keep something like this.
Conway blinked with surprise. So everything was going to be okay now? What in the name of the suits...?

Thyme let out a breath she hadn't quite realized she'd been holding. So she wasn't going to kill the boy in front of her or something equally gruesome... good. She knew her aunt didn't prefer messy things like that, or at least she thought she knew that, but she wouldn't bet her life on it. Or his.
"Thank you, Aunt. Is the lesson concluded, or should I stay here with you?" She reached out to take the golden vertebrae, but right before she did, she mentally whispered. Thank you, Edger. Your mouth will be back tomorrow. She couldn't just leave him not knowing whether or not he'd ever be able to eat again. That just didn't sit well with her.
Object carefully held in her mouth, she turned away from the scared, shivering young man and looked at her aunt instead. As soon as she was dismissed, she would walk at a normal pace up the stairs and back to her room to talk to Rosemary and maybe Conway if he followed. Or she might be held down here longer with her aunt. She just didn't know.

Josephine smirked, "You and Conway can leave, your lesson is finished for today. Enjoy the rest of the day off with your darling little sister." Her voice was laced with her usual disgust for the bouncy little wolf squirrel. How she had ended up like that with her parents who they were she would never know.
Conway hurried up the stairs as soon as she said he was dismissed. Her voice was riddled with its usual discontent. That woman was just a bucket full of sadistic nature, and she was probably going to take it out on the poor cat. Conway didn't want to be around for that.
Upstairs Rosemary was very firmly under the covers of her bed, and she wasn't coming out unless someone dragged her. Her entire life she had been pretending that torture and other creepy things that her Grandparents and her neighbor didn't exist. Now the woman she liked to harass was just as bad as them. Only... she was probably being nicer for Thyme's benefit.
Greeeeeeat.

Thyme went upstairs with Conway but paused once they were well away from the basement door, by the bottom of the stairs to go to the second floor, dropped the thing in her mouth, and looked up at him. "His mouth will come back after a day. They always do. And I didn't do anything to hurt him - the gold was just so I could talk to him and answer her question. I wanted to do it in a way that she couldn't hear it so I didn't have to be an evil bitch to get her approval." And light threatening with no intent to actually harm, or even a way to carry out that threat, was so not being an evil bitch. Just a bitch.
However silly she might have felt right then, she needed him to understand. If he ever thought of her like he did Aunt Josephine, she thought she would just have to bury herself for a few years until the worms had eaten the bitch out of her. She wanted her approval and even her affection, but she didn't want to be her aunt.

Conway paused in his movements when Thyme started talking to him. His tail twitched at her words. Okay, so she wasn't doing anything horrible, just sealing a guys mouth shut so her old bag Aunt wouldn't have to hear her. It made sense. Still was sort of creepy, but what wasn't if it involved the old bag?
He nodded and mouthed an "Okay" to her. Apparently she wanted to know that he wasn't scared or something. It was sort of weird. Why would she be seeking a servants approval or anything? If her Aunt found out Conway couldn't imagine what she would do. Ugh, okay, don't think about that.
He looked at her and pointed up. He supposed they should help Rosemary since she seemed terrified by this whole situation. That and it would get Conway's mind off of feeling guilty for.... planning to leave. Ugh, that was a weird feeling he just didn't want to deal with.

Looking somewhat relieved, Thyme nodded. "Okay. Thanks. I guess we should go see if Rose is okay." Picking her bauble back up in her mouth, she went up the stairs and slipped into her room. Her sister had left the door slightly open so she didn't have to bother with the knob. Placing the gold vertebrae on the small table they ate breakfast on, she looked around once before sighing and going into the adjoining room.
She saw a moving lump that could only be her sister and it made her wince. With a quick hop, she was on the bed and sitting down next to said lump. "Ahh. Hey, Rose? C'mon... it's just me. And Conway too. Could you come out? You don't make a very good turtle and I feel kind of dumb talking to a moving blanket."
Whether her sister was scared of her aunt or whether she was also scared of her, the wolf just didn't know.

Rosemary snorted. Okay, so her sister had a sense of humor for once. She should probably wiggle out of the bed for that. The wolf squirrel squirmed out of the covers to look at her sister. She sighed. "You know. I've kind of been avoiding seeing that my entire life and I just blew that to Hell and back."
Conway remained in the background. He wasn't going to get involved. This was entirely over his head when he couldn't use his voice. He also sucked at playing big brother half the time unless it was to June. His tail twitched at the thought. He needed to see his sister. Soon. He was starting to get worried along with his twitchy.
The wolf squirrel looked at her sister, going completely serious for a moment, "Please don't end up like Joe or Ghi or anyone like that. I don't want to lose my sister."

Thyme watched with relief as Rosemary wriggled out of her little cocoon and looked up at her. At least she wasn't going to be irrational or something, not that she'd be able to blame her, really. That poor young man probably didn't deserve a single thing that was going to come his way. His mother had better protect him more thoroughly in the future or someone else like their aunt would get hold of him and might want more than just information.
She sighed and looked back, red eyes meeting pink. "I didn't know she'd be taking us down to the basement today. She's never let me down there before. This was sort of an 'initiation', I guess. Or something." She looked away, at the window, staring at the bright blue sky and the rolling green without really seeing it.
"I'm not going to end up like Aunt or Lord Ghi if I can do anything not to," she said with a wince. "Aunt's teaching me lots of things, not just stuff like that. It really was the first time down there. Mostly we focus on family history and psychological theory and things like that. It's just... she does stuff like that for her research and for work, I think. I'm not completely sure. She still has lots of stuff to tell me."
Sighing again, she rested her chin across her sister's back. "As long as you're a chit and I'm a bitch, you won't lose your sister, Rose."

"Well then. I suppose we'll always be sisters then," Rosemary said as she tried her best to flop on her sister. It failed rather spectacularly and she figured that being flopped on the bed was nice enough. She sighed. Well Josephine was just a conniving old bitch now wasn't she?
Conway waved his hands for a moment to get the girl's attention. Once they were focused he made the usual motions that they should be downstairs for lunch. Or at least they should send him to get lunch, it was totally their choice. If they wanted to face the old bag, he was going to clean, if they didn't... he might just eat something himself. Maybe that would get his mind off of June, and guilt and... and all the horrible things that he had done. Guh, he felt so ill right now. He had to keep it together though. He couldn't break down now when he just had three more weeks to go.
He could make it.
