Hatter's face went from confused to perfectly embarrassed complete with cheeks burning so red that they shone clearly through his feathers. Oh crap. Not his intentions at all! When the Heron wobbled, Hatter was at her side. Still wearing a look of absolutely adorable shame and just a hint of uncertainty, he slid his arm beneath hers and lightly urged her to lean on him before his grip shifted to fall more easily around her hips.
"Ah, yeah... Come on, you can lay down in my room."
He didn't think about what he was saying, the slight intoxication he felt made sure of that, but he was thinking clearly enough to know that he'd rather her laying down and containing her liquor than...well, spilling it on his floor so to speak.
With gently urging, he aimed to usher her into the bedroom and onto the bed. This bedroom was the same as his apartment in the Capital City and the walls were decorated by unusual hats of all shapes, sizes, and colors but he ignored them in favor of tending to his friend.

She would have said something if she wasn't focused on walking. His hands on her hips were mildly distracting. All she could really focus on was getting onto the bed and not falling off of it. Those were a lot of hats too.
Loreta was going to have a lovely hangover tomorrow morning. She sighed as she carefully shifted her weight on the bed. "Do me a fa'or. Don't go." Was all she could manage to request as she was on his bed. She didn't want to be alone like this. She was always terrified of being alone like this. She would always be terrified of being alone. It just led to bad things.
Stupid getting drunk thing. She could feel one of her typical migraines coming about. Damn, she had done such a good job of avoiding them too. Too bad she couldn't take medication with alcohol in her system. She'd tried that before, wasn't a good thing.

Hatter couldn't stand things like this actually being his fault. Yet it was, it most obviously was. He hadn't meant to make her sick or even get her smashed, he'd just tried to make her drink a bit more to her liking...a bit stronger to contrast her tolerance and help ease her nerves a bit. No good.
"O'course, luv." The thickness of her accent while she was drunk was weaseling its way into Hatter's head and sliding out on his own tongue, a bad habit of his when he was around others with the same accent as his. Ah well, she probably wouldn't notice too much, honestly.
Slowly the bipedal secretary bird stretched out on the bed beside Loreta, his eyes a mixture of warmth and pure concern. "Is this better? Layin' down 'n' all?"
Mildly buzzed and trying to get comfortable as he was, Hatter debated taking off his vest...but that might very well mean revealing his rank. Or, rather, having to invent a rank that he was comfortable being around Loreta. He'd mentioned being high of rank, maybe King? Yes, King of Diamonds... That had always been his best comfort zone... Changing accordingly, Hatter carefully unbuttoned his vest and just as carefully slid out of it, draping it carefully on the nightstand since it also housed his pocket watch.

She didn't mean the bed. She had just meant the room. However she wasn't about to correct him. Loreta was in too much of a state to say anything of actual value. All she could do was nod.
There was a brief moment where her heart skipped when Hatter removed his vest. She spotted the mark on his chest and half wanted to wince. Why was she always attracted to people of high rank? Why did they always like her? She wasn't that likable as far as she was concerned.
"'S Fine," she muttered as she closed her eyes and moved closer to him. Her head was really starting to hurt, and her stomach was protesting a bit more than usual. Tea and alcohol apparently didn't sit well with her. Fantastic. At least she was comfortable like this. "I'm sorry..." she said rather weakly. She wanted to apologize for making him go out of his way to be so nice to her, but not all the words would come out. Just the simple ones.

Hatter smiled gently, his concern taking on a lighter and more curious sort of light. She was...softer...like this. Like when she was drunk like this she actually let down some of her tough exterior walls. This part of her was prettier, he had to admit, but he liked her just the same when she was sober. It was just a different side of her to know now. He caught her wince and he glance to the red mark upon his breast. He didn't like it much either...but it was better, better than the truth would be right now.
"Don't be, luv... I'm the one who ought to be apologizing, yeah? I got you like this."
He reached out, stroking her cheek a bit before allowing his fingertips to slide upward further. Alcohol always made his head spin and throb and he could only imagine how her head felt just then. Thoughtlessly his fingers found pressure points and slowly he applied pressure to each, slowly beginning to massage her head all the way up to her tender temples. "Does that feel alright? I'll stop if you don't like it..."

The little voice in the back of Loreta's head shut up for one long moment when Hatter spoke. She would never be able to understand even if she tried. No, it wasn't possible to understand other people.
Then she felt his hands wander up to her head. Suddenly a wave of relief greeted her. Enough that it took her completely off guard, as tears streamed down her face. It actually didn't hurt as badly when he did that. "Yes... but..."
She struggled with herself to find the words. She didn't want to say something stupid. And why was she crying if she was so damn happy about this? "It's all my fault. I'ma idiot." Explaining would have been easier, sure, but it just wasn't working. She very much just wanted to burst into tears. Stupid alcohol made her so over emotional.
"Thank you," she muttered.

Hatter was taken aback just a little when those tears began to fall but considering that she was thanking him and all he figured that she couldn't be all too upset with him and so they must've been happy tears. He hoped.
So he continued to massage her head, picking up a steady rhythm as he moved from point to point in an attempt to ease away the pain she must have felt. What a terrible binding, a head vice... He would've kissed away her tears, if not for his beak being rather awkward for kissing. He lifted her cheek instead.
"You're very much welcome, Loreta..." He smiled handsomely, giving her a gentle nudge on the shoulder. "You're not an idiot, dear... Honestly, when it comes to things like that, I admit completely that I'm an idiot to the extreme."
Hatter shifted after a moment, breaking his steady pace in order to wipe away her tears. He spoke softly, only sheepishly, his gaze averted. "May I ask... why you're crying, Lore?"

She honestly would have laughed if her head hadn't still hurt. Instead she did something that was even a surprise for her. She hugged him. Loreta never really liked the concept behind hugging whens he didn't have a biped form. Now it was a lot easier to hug someone with arms. It made her wonder what her human form would be like if she ever got it.
If Loreta ever got it, it would probably be for him.
This was so sappy it hurt. Honestly.
"'Cause of everythin' and nothin'. You're one of the few I can trust." She muttered. She didn't want to say it any clearer. She really did have few actual friends. Most of the time she was alone in her apartment sulking or in a bar drinking herself silly. This was one of the few times, like when she spoke with Peaches and Rocky, that she was happy. And sappy. There was that bit too.

Hatter's expression warmed considerably, if that was even possible, when she mentioned that she could trust him. It made him feel special when people offered him that, but Trust was a very important thing that very few people could honestly give. It also made seeing her like this all the prettier. Perhaps it wasn't all the alcohol alone that made her so soft now, but the fact that she trusted him as well.
His arms twined lightly around her, pulling her close with one hand while using the other to continue stroking and rubbing those pressure points.
"I'm very much glad for that." He leaned in and nuzzled her once again. "You're a wonderful person, Lore, it's a pity not many people look hard enough to see it."
Peaches and Lore were some of the few people that Hatter could honestly say were his 'true friends'. The majority of the rest were good acquaintances and while he considered them all friends, there were very few that he ever even considered revealing his rank to.
