That was confusing. If her head wasn't buzzing she could have argued with him. If she wasn't so comfortable she easily could have pushed him off the edge of the bed. However she wasn't going to. She couldn't. Hatter was far to nice for her to react like she normally did--and she was slowly being run over by a stampede of wild horses. That's what her head was saying anyway.
"Why do you like me? Why does someone so amazing like you like me?" she said, quite clearly for a moment before simply holding onto him tighter. This was nice. She could stay like this forever if she had to. It still baffled her though. Why would someone like her even entertain her presence? Loreta had no idea how people could stand her. Sober or drunk, she was just a general bitch to everyone.
Whatever. It was warm, and at the moment she wouldn't care until he answered.

Hatter would've kissed her were it not for the awkward beak getting in the way. Instead he leaned in and licked her cheek a little as he continued the fluid movements of his hands. He enjoyed massaging her, it gave him a chance to continue busying his hands.
"Ah, love, I don't think I'm all that amazing. I'm a tad odd, I've been told, but not all that amazing." A partial lie, but honestly...he didn't think himself all that great. Not really. "I like you, though, because you're wonderful. You're smart and blunt and to the point. Not many girls are like that, not many guys are either. I appreciate it greatly in a person. To know they can be straight with me."
And treat me like a person regardless of my rank.
He liked that the most.
"Like I've said before: give yourself more credit." He meshed himself closer as he spoke, giving her an affectionate nuzzle before sliding his hands from her head to wrap them carefully around her. "You're a good friend to me, I appreciate it."

"Heh." Was all Loreta could really manage as she was drawn closer to him. In a moment like this what should she do? Should she act on her real emotions or just go to sleep and pretend this wasn't happening? Choices were difficult things that she wasn't sure she ever made properly. She had pissed of nobles and common people alike by being brutally honest, but she was afraid of saying the wrong thing in front of Hatter.
This was a completely new concept for her. "Hatter...?" She said as she leaned into him. "If... if I told you something..." Somehow the heron couldn't seem to finish her sentence. She hoped it would be enough. Than her her blushing profusely enough for it to show through her feathers at such a close range.
Damn this girly thing was just so horribly unnatural it almost made her want to say "Fuck me senseless" out loud. She wasn't drunk enough for that though.

Hatter found her girlish blushing rather amusing, more cute than something to serious consider. Loreta wasn't often a blushing schoolgirl, though, and he had to imagine it meant something. Was he really embarrassing her with his advances? He hoped not, he liked it when she was bold and forward. It was more fun that way. Once more he gave her a playful lick, opening on brilliant red eye when she spoke again.
"Tell me anything, Loreta." He said quite honestly. "Your ability to speak bluntly is a gift, don't feel the need to hide it from me." He nibbled playfully along her neck, careful not to cut her with his sharp beak. Years of practice kept the action light and playful and free of nicks.
"Sometimes though," he whispered in teasingly into her ear, "saying nothing at all works just as well." Especially when you were flushing like a virgin.
Sunlight peeking through the curtains was the first thing to rouse Hatter and the bipedal secretary bird stretched absently where he laid. With his eyes still closed tight to ward out the morning, Hatter could feel the warmth of Loreta's body along his side and smiled slightly as the events of the night returned to him.
He would be more careful about what he spiked tea with in the future, but he couldn't say he was too displeased with the events of the evening. Especially considering that Lore had not seemed drunk enough to regret anything upon waking. Regret was not pleasant.
He would wait contentedly until she began to shift on her own before he actually said anything and when he did it was only with one bright blue eye opened upon her. "Sleep well, Lore?"

Loreta shifted her head to look at Hatter with bleary eyes. Oh right. They had fun last night didn't they? It was worth getting a bit tispy off of hard liquor if she got to sleep with her crush. And apparently he seemed just as satisfied as her.
She shifted to look him up and down.
Wait. Her eyes widened as she looked at his chest. Where had his mark gone? What happened to... wait. That was impossible. His rank couldn't just disappear unless he wasn't what he said he was.
And...
"Uh... Hatter? Where the bloody hell did your rank go?" Loreta asked for clarification. She knew she was sober, unless something else was slipped into her tea last night. She shifted her weight to a sitting position looking down at Hatter. There was absolutely no way he was a Joker. None. That was freaking impossible. Wasn't it?

Hatter was indeed quite content. Quite content and half awake and, apparently, as absent-minded as ever. Yet, even with only one eye open he recognized her shock. It was typically the expression one got when seeing his actual rank and it was a look he tried very hard not to see on other people's faces. Typically only those people that he could be sure would not give him that look upon finding out were the people the told, it was safest that way, but then again this was not a scenario he was accustomed to dealing with. Even if he did get caught on some mornings with less trusted bedmates he had grown accustomed to quickly replacing the lack of mark upon his breast so that his bedmates often thought their eyes were playing tricks on them.
That move hadn't even passed his mind this morning... Very probably because her reaction had been so very blunt.
Both eyes had long opened and he stared at her in quiet shock for a moment, stiff as a board. Most of the time he got all wrapped up in the fact that someone knew and would probably tell others, but for once that wasn't his concern. No, what bothered him most was that he'd 'lied' to her and she had found out in the most awkward way imaginable.
"I..." He murmured a little and then smiled. It wasn't his usual smile, in fact it was small and awkward and looked as abashed as he did. He could have just yelled 'surprise' and hope she didn't think about it, but that didn't seem very appropriate. He settled with the truth, however honestly embarrassing it was. "I forgot to put it back on...?"

Forgot to put it back on? Forgot to put it back on! What the hell sort of answer as that?
Well... it was a right answer but Loreta was still quite shocked. She opened her beak and nothing came out the first few times. She shook her head and brushed her fingers though her feathers and ran them over her vice. She wasn't dreaming, and she still had the damn Lowlander leg.
"Okay. Well. That's interesting. Talk about a kick to the face first thing in the morning," Loreta said as she glanced back at Hatter and his rankless chest. How the hell had she managed to sleep with something that supposedly didn't exist? Well, he obviously did but wow. That was just like sleeping with the Queen of Hearts and not remembering his name or something.
"So uh... anyway we can get breakfast?" Loreta couldn't think of anything else to say.

Hatter continued to lay beneath her stare, almost afraid to move until he was certain she was alright...or wouldn't beat him with something. He really hoped she wouldn't be mad, messing up twice with such little time between each mess up rarely went over well at all.
Her words made him look more abashed than before, if that were at all possible and he murmured a quick 'sorry' as she stared at his lack of rank. It was so strange to him, to be singled apart from everyone else by something so very simple as...well, nothing. And then she was asking about breakfast and Hatter felt some of the tension drain out of him. She wasn't upset then, if she was asking about breakfast.
"Sorry for the surprise." He murmured as he sat up, switching forms as he did. "As for breakfast though, I believe I've actually got some food today. I finally got up and went shopping recently..." He laughed warmly, putting the morning surprise behind him as he slid off the bed and onto his feet. "So what do you like to eat, hm?"

"Well, to be honest I would prefer to actually cook a real breakfast. You know. Eggs, hashbrowns, pancakes and the works. I haven't actually cooked something like that in a while but... you probably don't have all the supplies," Loreta sighed. She figured that Hatter wasn't the type who could cook. That was one thing that Loreta was actually proud enough to say that she could do, even if she didn't do it very often.
She slipped out of bed onto her two legs. Ugh, the Lowlander leg was still very disgusting, and she had to prevent herself from gagging. Why was she stuck with something like this? She rubbed her face briefly. "If you don't mind though, I'm going to use your bathroom to freshen up."
Without another word she stood up and left the room to wash her face and do other morning things. Hatter could figure out breakfast.
