Hell, he could agree with that. When did responsibility not suck? Hatter too hated responsibility and that was why he so often enjoyed forgetting all about it. As if his head would let him today. He snorted in dark amusement and then took in the whistle of the kettle with a soft sigh. It seemed more relieving for him today, as if he was carrying a burden that was very un-Hatter like. Once this shock wore off he'd be his old self again, it was just too much to think about and too much to hold above the general chaos.
Responsibility. OI!
Hatter poured Loreta her cup and settled down in a chair with his own cup. The sweet brew was calming. "Alright, Lore. Keep tabs with me, yeah?" He didn't say it out loud but the meaning was clear: he wanted to be there for her, through all of it. He'd well 'started it' after all.

"Oh I will," Loreta said as she lifted the cup up to her beak. This was going to be a fantastically long and painful process, she was sure. Stupid responsibility and stupid consequences of having sex.
---
"Well," she said looking at the child in her arms. He was an adorable little bird. A mix of both regions and both birds. His ranking was a bit low, but honestly Loreta could careless. He was also a Club... but that wasn't anything absolutely awful either. Loreta smirked, that was if he came out anything like his parents.
She knocked on the door. When it finally opened she greeted Hatter with a wide grin. "Yo, got a surprise for you. Doesn't even have a name yet."
Okay. That was a weird way to greet someone, but she couldn't give a damn at the moment. She was, after all, someone who probably never should have been a mother.

The little mutt of a bird was squirmy already. Fresh into the world and already he didn't want to sit still; full of promise to be as unruly as his parents. He fussed once Loreta was standing still, waiting for the door to open, and would be wailing if Hatter didn't respond quickly enough. Luckily for the both of them, he did answer, and rather promptly as well considering that he'd been about to step out for a walk. He pulled the door open cheerfully and burst into a wide grin upon seeing Loreta... Loreta and surprise of bundled feathers. His eyes lit up and he laughed loudly, grinning warmly. He was far more relaxed now than when he'd first heard the news -- the shock had long set in and been dealt with -- and now he slid back to hold the door open for the unorthodox heron and her squirmy companion. ...His son. Alright, so the shock hadn't completely faded yet. "Come in, come in. We can sit and talk...and I suppose discuss names, was that your intention?" He really was a cute little thing. Hatter was, without a doubt, quite proud.

"Yes. I don't want to name the poor boy anything stupid, so I suppose it would be a good idea to ask for you help," Loreta said as she stepped inside with the wiggling bundle. He was going to be a terror when he was older, Loreta was not looking forward to it.
She sat down on the proper stool, a smirk on her face. This was still a big shock, and quite unbelievable, but it was happening. She had to sit on an egg for four months after popping it out of her, yes. This was indeed happening.
"So, I was thinking something short. Like... John, but not that simple and horribly boring. I have a list of suggestions, but anything you might come up with would probably be better. I'm bad at this name thing." She rolled her eyes. Her whole family had short names thanks to her mother. Keeping things straight was easier that way.
"Also... I bet you want to hold him." She offered him the wiggling bundle. Gah. The boy just wouldn't stop moving.

"You're asking a guy that goes by Hatter not to name our boy anything silly?" He prompted teasingly, brushing against her side affectionately as they walked into the house proper.
When she took her stool, he'd remain standing nearby in order to admire their little mixed-everything child. He was just a three of clubs, but Hatter really paid no mind to rank, and he was such a delightful mix of heron and secretary bird and Torquehelm and Corvistowne that he almost had to say he was a perfect image of them both.
The squirming seemed to be very much his fault though. Was that what he was like as a kid? Oops! Hatter puffed up like a proud Rooster, grinning happily when she suggested he'd want to hold the squirmy little bundle. "I do~!" He chimed out, grinning like a Cheshire Cat.
Once their son was passed into his arms, he cradled him thoughtfully and returned to thoughts of names and naming. "Short and sweet, hm? But niftier than John?" He mulled about on names for a moment, piling a few in the back of his mind as he peered into those bright, intelligent blue eyes. Something told him the little beast was going to be a terror. A wonderful terror. "So what's your list?"

Loreta cracked each of her fingers as she watched Hatter hold the boy. At least he knew how to hold a baby. This wasn't going to be completely hopeless. Maybe they wouldn't be absolutely horrible parents? Yeah. Right. She smirked. "Hatter isn't that silly. It's better than being named after some insane foodstuff like "Lemon." At least your name directly relates to your personality."
But that wasn't here or there. She crossed her legs and went over the mental list she had created. She had narrowed it down to few names that were possible. "Kyler, Kaden, Raidon, things like that. I'm not very good with this naming thing." She shrugged as she leaned forward to put her head in her hands. "I just don't want him to end up hating his name like so many children do. It's the least I could do to be a half decent parent."

Hatter nodded empathic nod at the Heron as she spoke of terrible names and suiting names and how so many children hated their name.
Which was exactly why he went by Hatter, because his dear ol' mum hadn't had the smarts enough to know that the name she'd chosen for her 'precious little joker' was a terrible terrible name. The Corvie could've shuddered but his hands were distracted by the little one and so he refrained from fidgeting out his disapproval. He also had a wonderful little list to scroll through.
"Hmm..." He held the kid up, taking him in and momentarily getting pecked in the nose by the curious little git. "I rather like Kaden, actually."
The squirming ball of feathers seemed to approve as well, for he squawked lightly and yawned heavily in response. That, or he'd just tuckered himself out pecking daddy. Hatter decided he greatly preferred the belief that the kid enjoyed his name rather than pecking him.

Loreta snorted when the newly dubbed Kaden pecked Hatter in the nose. Oh boy, he was going to be a devil growing up wasn't he? Loreta couldn't help but snicker at the thought of a child with her cynicism and Hatter's attention span. It would be a monster to unleash upon the world, and she would quite enjoy it.
Anyway, she probably should take Kaden back before he did anything else to Daddy. Tired or not, children were good and causing chaos, this wiggling bundle in particular. "Kaden it is then. A short, sweet name. Hopefully he'll end up liking it," Loreta said with a cheerful note in her voice. That was rare. She shook it off rather quickly as she carefully took the bundle in her own arms.
Now... how were they going to handle all that other complicated stuff? "We still have a lot to talk about, I'm afraid. Like... how we're going to pull this off."

Holding nothing against the little mutt-bird for his peck, Hatter cheerfully handed him over and took to admiring him from afar. Cute little thing, Hatter didn't think he'd be so proud. Hum, he should probably make sure he never stayed the night here though... Marchie wandered around sometimes and, well, that just didn't seem good.
"I'm sure he will, Kaden is a good name." Then again, many parents thought that their names were good for their children. Long, obnoxious names that were just as horrible when shortened... He nearly coughed, but he grinned instead.
Until she mentioned those troublesome things and he pouted slightly. Responsibility! "Nn... You're right. I'm not sure of that either." He settled onto a stool nearby, perching neatly on the seat. "I will do what I can to keep food, proper food, in the house... Have you spoken to Rocky about babysitting?" And a Teacher, they would need a Teacher... Hatter could teach him some things and Lore some others, just by default, but Hatter had trouble focusing on basics most of the time. Unless he had to. Which wasn't fun at all.
The moment Kaden was transferred into Loreta's arms he made a happy crooning and snuggled into her feathers before promptly falling asleep. The little monster-to-be was actually quite cute when he was sleeping.
