Loreta choked back a "awww" at the sight of Kaden falling asleep. She was a mother, but that didn't have to make her sentimental and girly. She shifted her weight carefully so she could get more comfortable. Right. Babysitter.
"Yes, I spoke to Rocky. He said that he could easily babysit him. He just needed a day in advance warning. So... we can't just randomly drop him off unannounced," she sighed and shook her head. She understood completely, but she could still sigh about it. "And if you want, I can help you stack the pantry with proper food for you and Kaden. I think if I pester you enough you'll remember to eat, and Kaden should be loud enough to remind you that he needs food."
Loud was a bit of an understatement, but Hatter would find that out soon enough. She didn't want to elaborate at the moment. "Are we going to send him to private school or... are we just going to get him a tutor? I honestly can't afford a tutor and my education isn't the best in the entire world."

As Kaden fell asleep in Loreta's arms, Hatter broke into a wide and even goofy smile. It was honestly quite cute; both Kaden conking out so quickly and Hatter's dorky smile.
Having to warn Rocky in advance caused the avian to hesitate, blinking thoughtfully. He had a problem doing things in 'advance', which was why his house was always lacking in food. He just, had a problem with that whole planning thing. Of course, he would have to get over that problem. It was possible, he was aware of it, it just took more thought than he preferred.
"All right, that'd be fine." He tilted slightly to look at Kaden as she mentioned food and he smiled slightly, oblivious to just how literal she was being. "As for food and schooling, I'll handle the financial bit. I'll figure out the Tutor, but," he coughed a little between words, "I'll let you handle the shopping. I'm awful at that."

Children were adorable when they were quiet, she hoped that the silence would just last a little bit longer. Sometimes he decided to wake up and cause problems for no particular reason. If this was peak into the future she may just fail hard at this whole mother thing.
"Well, if that's settled we don't have to worry for a while. He's going to have to be stuck with me until he gets a bit older. My job is going to hate me for this," she rolled her eyes. They could fuck themselves sideways for all she cared.
"There was something else I wanted to say but it completely slipped my mind, maybe a bit of tea would help?" She grinned. He had actually forgotten to put tea on, that was just downright amazing. It was amazing that a child could hold his ADD attention span for that long, and frankly, she couldn't blame Hatter.

Kaden was, for the time being, snuggled quite happily in his mother's arms and didn't show any signs of stirring or mischief making. Luckily.
Hatter paused abruptly as Tea was mentioned, a look of pure incredulous surprise filling his expression. He'd...forgotten...to put...tea on. The Joker's head tilted to the side, his mouth opening one and then closing suddenly as he found himself blushing. He'd gotten so distracted by Kaden that he'd just, forgotten.
"Oh, yes... yes! Tea. One moment." He untangled his legs and slid off the chair before moving to the cabinet and quickly shifting through to find his usual items. Tea set, tea pot, tea. In his usual flurry of dizzying movements, he had everything set up and ready. Foolishness, that he'd forgotten. What kind of Host was he?
Once everything was set and he had nothing to do but wait for the water to boil, he settled down before Loreta and recovered his composure. "There we go. Sorry about that." His expression widened back into its proper, happy smile.

Loreta snickered. She couldn't help but find a flustered Hatter amusing. "I didn't mean it like that. It's no problem that you forgot the tea. I'm not much of a tea drinker, remember?" But she did drink Hatter's tea. Why? She wasn't entirely sure. She just did. Plus it was her only source of caffeine, and she hadn't been able to have fun with any sort of drink for a long time.
She'd stay away from booze a bit longer though. She didn't want to go and sleep with anyone under the influence just yet. No more accidental pregnancies for a while, thank you.
Suddenly the Heron found herself yawning. Oh, Kaden had been keeping her up in the odd hours of the night. Why did children always pick the night to misbehave? She shifted her weight to sit more comfortably with the boy. "The point of the story is, the only reason I need tea, is because I need caffeine to stay awake."

Hatter chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck as he flashed a sheepish smile up at Lore. Well, no, she didn't really like tea but Hatter was usually so good at preparing tea for his guests first thing that his forgetfulness caught him off guard entirely.
What an interesting little kid that Kaden could so distract him!
When Loreta mentioned caffeine, Hatter chuckled again. "Is Kaden keeping you up?" Perhaps he should invite her to stay here with him for a while, then he could hate take some of the weight off her shoulders. Then again, he would also be subjecting them to a greater likelihood of meeting Marchie at an inopportune time. Not a good idea, not while Kaden was so small.
Hatter's thoughts were abruptly cut short as the tea kettle began singing its readiness and he jumped a little in surprise. Not because of the kettle itself, however, but because of the screaming wail that sounded shortly after. He hadn't been watching the kettle or the clock closely enough and the piercing sound had rudely awoken sleeping Kaden.
Uh-oh.

That answered his question quite spectacularly. The Heron wanted to smash her head against the table as soon as the boy started crying. How many times had she heard his high pitched screaming in the dead of the night? His Club ability didn't help at all.
She rocked him in her arms, she knew it wouldn't be enough. She would probably have to sing some sort of lullaby in front of Hatter. The thought made her heart skip a beat. It was that girly thing all over again. She took a deep breath, the crying wasn't going to stop. All right, all she needed to do was sing. Singing wasn't that hard, even though she never did it in front of people, she needed to do it to shut Kaden up.
"Lullaby and good night, with roses bedight..." she sang quietly, please please just be quiet. "With lilies o'er spread is baby's wee bed..."
Her voice wasn't the prettiest in the world, but it was enough to calm a baby down before. She just hoped it worked this time.

Hatter was in absolute shock.
How could something that small make so much noise?!
Then, over all the wailing, came Loreta...singing a lullaby? Hatter tilted his attention from the wailing, upset Kaden and onto Loreta, staring at her in dumbfounded interest even as he hurried to remove the kettle from the stove.
As Hatter fiddled about with quieting the kettle and pouring their tea, Kaden slowly slumped in his mother's arms and whimpered in annoyance before burying his little head into her feathers. He made a few more noises of protest here and there, as babies were oft to do, but he was soon back to his calm, wide-eyed and curious state. It had been a short nap, but Kaden was -as Loreta knew- not much of a sleeper.
Hatter returned to the table and set the tea tray down and poured Loreta her cup. "...I didn't know you could sing." Well that was, interesting. He liked her voice, for all that it wasn't the prettiest he'd heard. "I'm sorry I woke him."

"It's all right," Lore said with a sigh as she looked down at the now wide-eyed boy. He hated sleep, and if his attention was any indication, it probably meant that he was going to stay up for the remainder of the visit. Oh children, how fantastic they were, especially when they had the ability to stay up for two or three days straight.
And now Hatter knew she could sing. Wow, she suddenly had butterflies in her stomach. This was the top of girlie wasn't it? She mentally cursed herself for even trying to sing the boy to sleep. The heron would have bit her lip of she had one.
"Yeah I... I can sing. Not very well obviously but good enough to make Kaden behave. I normally don't sing in front of people," She muttered quietly. The tea, please let it be a distraction. She didn't want to talk about herself anymore.
