Her perked up a bit at the compliment, pointed ears edging their way forward as he straightened up a bit. He may not have been the happiest mix in the world at present, but compliments and other things that stroked his ego were always nice, and always appreciated. He dipped his head a bit and brought up a paw to fix his mane, and make it look it's best, the hint of a grin on his maw.
It didn't ... I got it grown .... but thank you.
Now that he'd put in a little preening, his tail curled up ever so slightly and he appeared to be listening to what the otter had to say, but he already knew what the boy had been up to, to an extent. Since he didn't have anyone to keep busy with any longer he'd taken to people watching during the day and sulking at night ... but the otter didn't need to know that.
Odd jobs? I bet they stick you with some rather unpleasant things.
Idly he ran his tongue over a few of his fangs before stretching a bit as he got onto all fours, if the otter wasn't going to join him, well, he'd just go and join him ... as much as he hated to admit it he was craving a bit of attention and ... Aphasia seemed willing to give him some, or at least distract him enough to forget about sulking on the balcony.
I've been mainly reading ... and staying current on the.... few things that go on around here. Been to the Capitol a few times but .... it's pretty boring here. Now that I don't have anyone to get into trouble with.
The boy's next comment pulled a little chuckle from his throat, how delightful ... .he remembered!
Ah, no. Passing fancy I suppose ... he can stay the color of wet dirt for all I care.
And that little grin managed to remain on his muzzle as he stepped in a little circle around the otter, not bothering to cover the fact that he was inspecting him in the slightest bit. He also didn't seem to think the Spade had any bubble of personal space and quite willingly invaded it with his face, preferring to speak up close then from afar.
What brings you to the library, Aphy?

"Well, it was a good choice, then," he asserted. If nothing else, compliments seemed to always help people feel better. It certainly seemed to be working on Morpheus, if the mix's reaction of perking up was any indication!
"It isn't too bad, because of Mama Vessatha's position in the Court. Mostly I'm running around the kitchens doing stuff, but I've also gotten pretty good at being a messenger. I'm not the fastest or anything," he added, grimacing as he gestured in explanation at his wire, "but I'm really reliable." Then there had been that really odd adventure with the one girl's pet kitty and the horses in the stable, but he wasn't really willing to go into that, much less how the red rubber ball had gotten involved. Why did weirdness seem to be attracted to his family?
Morpheus' closing presence was certainly noted, but he really didn't have much of a concept of personal space, not after growing up with the family he'd had. If nothing else, having a sister who thought it was her right of birth to use him as a chew toy any time she felt like it had gotten him used to people randomly shoving their faces into his, so he didn't flinch.
He did, however, feel rather embarrased at the once-over from the hybrid, blushing beneath his fur as he remembered what had happened the last time they'd talked.
"N-not much, really. I thought I saw an interesting book the last time I was passing through here, but it wasn't what I thought it was, so I just sort of wandered in this direction."

Oh, that's right ...
His voice was distant and trailed off a bit at the end, like the thought about any member of his family, that he'd met any how, just didn't register in his head .... a reflex response. He really didn't want to dampen his present mood again and, well ... that would be the fastest way to do it.
He kept his ears forward, and at that little stutter the grin on his muzzle broadened a bit. That was just beyond adorable, but only because he knew it was caused by his presence. He was also thoroughly encouraged to continue his invasion and rubbed his shoulder against the otters, settling himself down on his rump next to him, well .... against him if he didn't move away, he just couldn't help himself. He dipped his head so he could look up at the otter and give him a rather cute look, a grin still lingering.
Well... if you have nothing better to do tonight .... meet me somewhere more interesting?
He had a favorite place, one he knew not a great many court members of servants went to, if any ... and he hoped the otter would take him up on it. His tail curled a bit in hopeful delight.

Aph was fairly oblivious to that distance in Mo's voice - he was more trained to notice a growing level of interest, because that usually meant thwackings or gnawings for him, which really weren't particularly fun. So it was best to notice them, and learn to get out of the way ASAP. It was a slightly more obvious set of warning signs then a quiet drift off into silence, though the edge of mischief that was at the edge of the hybrid's smile was something that he most certainly noticed.
It didn't seem like it would end up bad for him, though - Morpheus hadn't done anything bad to him the last time they'd met.
"Really? I mean, I don't have anywhere to be, or anything." He tried not to sound a little too desperate for company that wasn't family. He loved them, he really did, but they got a little too overbearing some times. Especially because Mama Quinn was home, but had been home long enough that she and Mama Vessatha were out of their room after their..."welcome home" festivities. He didn't want to think on that any more than he had to.
Fortunately, Morpheus' warm presence against his side helped him forget that fairly quickly.
"Where should I meet you?"

He twitched the tip of his tail back and forth as he watched the otter, his grin going from broad to toothy as his invitation was accepted. He drummed his claws against the floor for a moment before picking his head up and bringing his muzzle to the boy's ear to whisper the location.
The roof in an hour ... just walk around the west side of the palace and you'll notice a little something to get you up there. ... See you then!
That said he moved past the Torquehelm and toward the door before taking off at a run once more, only this time his tail was curled into it's happy shape and a little giggle escaped his maw as he passed through the doorway. He had an idea and he had less then an hour to get everything all prepared
_______________
It had taken him roughly forty-five minutes to get everything ready, but one of the first things he'd done was go to the roof himself and locate the rope ladder that was stashed there from when he and Mia had gone here to make their plots for trouble and destruction in private. He'd gathered up a few extra things and brought them up as well and ... hid them for now. Now all that was left was to wait and see if Aphasia would come and meet him or ... well, blow him off.

Once again he was watching Morpheus run out of the door, but at least this time there was no edge of the flight that had marked the first time it had happened. The giggle made him think rather distinctly of the purple dye that had practically introduced the two of them, as well as things he and his siblings had done together. Okay, it had mostly been the others - he usually tagged along after the rest and pretended that he was as mischevious as them, which was something that he'd gotten pretty good at pretending over the years.
With the hybrid now so thoroughly gone, he sighed and shook his head a bit, before heading back to the library. He could see if that book was anywhere around at all, at least while waiting the required hour.
--
Peering around the corner toward the indicated "west side of the palace" (and really, the whole side was bloody huge), Aphasia looked for whatever it was that would help him get up to the roof. When he caught sight of the rope ladder he sighed quietly, but at least it wasn't a knotted rope or anything. He'd just have to use the wired side to hold himself still, and use the rest to pull himself upward.
Setting to it, he hitched himself up to the roof a rung at a time, thanking both of his parents for the dexterous body he had (though it was Mama Quinn he got the otter in specific from). Finally perched on the edge of the roof, he panted a bit and looked around, trying to find the hybrid.

The otter wouldn't have too far to go before he'd stumble across that rope ladder and, because his brother, whom had slightly similar bindings, had used it ... the rungs were closer together then a normal one. Morpheus himself had used it once, just to try it, but he much preferred his natural ability to fly ... not like that was really a comparison anyhow since he didn't have bindings at all.
His little pointed ears perked forward even more as he heard the definite sounds of someone coming up the ladder. He listened, judging the otter's position on the rope ladder by swiveling his ears and taking educated guess and couldn't quite hold back the happy little trill that resonated from his throat when the boy's head head popped up over the edge, so he really did want to spend some time with him!
He trotted over to the Torque, making sure he was seen, or at least heard by the clicking of his claws against the stone, and reached out to grab the boy's neck firmly, being gentle enough so that his sharp little teeth didn't bite into the otter's flesh ... he didn't want to hurt him, just help. And then he gave a tug to help him over the edge.
You actually came!
And then a broad,, lopsided and somewhat goofy grin spread over his muzzle ... he'd bee a little worried that the other boy had been pulling his leg about being so willing to give him some attention before, but now it was quite obvious that he'd hadn't been lying just to appease him.

It was in fact easier to get up than he'd been expecting it to be, and he figured that if this was something that Morpheus had lying around (and it wasn't like he would have been using it, considering he could fly and all), then it was probably something from Mia. And while Mia wasn't quite as constricted as Aph in the movement department, the closer rungs helped.
So, for that matter, did the careful grip on the back of his neck and the tug up to the roof. Easier than he'd expected or not, it was still a heck of a climb. Sprawled on the roof, his breathing momentarily caught at the bright, truly delighted smile that Morpheus was sporting. A smile that he'd caused. Despite himself, he preened a little bit, a shy smile on his own face.
"Of course I did. I said I wanted to spend time with you, right?"

That grin of his broadened ever so slightly after Aph spoke, completely cementing his presence here as a desire to spend time with him, and him alone ... the roof wasn't exactly a common meeting spot after all. He dipped his head down and licked the otter's cheek as a way of thanks before trotting over to a corner of the roof space, this wasn't the highest part of the palace roof, and grabbed two sides of a blanket in his mouth and dragged it over to the center of the space he had available to him. He dropped one half and tossed the other over onto the ground as best he could with his mouth, revealing a little basket of fruit that he'd put together. He'd been banned from the kitchens long ago ... but that didn't mean he passed up any opportunities to sneak in and take what he wanted when he could.
He turned his gaze back to the other boy and curled his tail up into it's happy shape once more.
I hope you're alright with fruit ...
One ear twitched before he turned and went to spreading out the blanket properly and ridding it of any wrinkles before settling himself down on it and patting the available space with a clawed paw.
Join me? The stone gets rather cold at night ...
