For all that this establishment was a bit seedy in the evening hours, it really was the best place to find an easy lay. Darrien wasn't around, and she was in the mood to play, and finding someone to go home with was not going to be a difficult task. She had been at the bar for twenty minutes and three mystery men (and two mystery women) had already sent drinks her way. She was considering moving over to the table of the attractive Highlands feline who had sent her the strawberry daiquiri. A woman, Mnem thought, would do nicely for the night. She had been enjoying more male company as of late and was ready for a change of pace.
She threw the woman a coquettish wink and started over, pleased when the woman's expression visibly brightened.
Then she spotted something that promised more entertainment than even the best lay the pub had to offer.
Shinrai, alone and brooding, and wasn't this a familiar situation? If Minh were here it would be perfect. And speaking of--perhaps it was time to let the feline examine Rai, and see if her brew had had some effect at the genetic level?
Changing course abruptly, Mnem padded gracefully to the stallion's table.
"What," she chirped, "is a boy like you doing in a place like this?"

The stallion’s ears went flat against his head and he stared flatly at the woman with a morose gaze. Why? Why tonight of all nights? He already had a headache, he’s nearly been run over today by a cart and the following shouting match had very nearly come to blows until the little Six of Spades had figured out just who exactly he’d been screaming out. Then Rai had to put up with the apologies and dirty looks and the sarcastic comments from a member of the crowd who was acting as though it was the stallion’s fault the freakin’ canine had been barreling down the street. He really didn’t feel like putting up with any more snarky comments and condescending attitudes when it was –his- prerogative to have such airs and he rarely forced them upon the world!
”Trying to avoid people like you,” the Marshdweller snapped flatly. ”Go away, Mnem.”

Mnem took a seat, undeterred, and sipped at her daiquiri for a moment before responding. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see that the Highlands woman was staring at her in bemused disappointment. Mnem thought about this for a moment. Perhaps it would be possible to accomplish two things in one night. Perhaps? No; of course it would be possible. She mouthed "Later" at the woman, and then smiled slyly. That seemed to placate her. Perfect. She would get Shinrai to entertain her for a while and then move on to a different kind of fun. She hoped the woman was prepared to wait.
"Well," she said, cheerily, focusing her attention fully on the stallion, "you've picked a terrible locale if that's your wish. You know the kind of people this place attracts."
He appeared to be a foul mood--which really was not unusual--but Mnem didn't think it would take much to get him riled up.

Shinrai caught Mnem’s glance back towards the feline staring at her from the bar. Why didn’t Mnem go bother someone who obviously wanted her attention?! Rai had the distinct desire to hit his head upon the table, but it already hurt and didn’t need any help. Like Mnem’s grating voice and arrogance. Both factors that were –not- helping his headache go away.
”I only know that you are bothering me and you should know to leave. Go bother someone who wants you.” Inside his pouch was a certain potion, but the stallion hadn’t yet thought of it, especially with his head hurting. He glanced back towards the bar again, ears flicking up in brief interest. ”Actually, she is cute.” Rai sent Mnem a sidelong glance before the dull ache in his head became a sudden sharp pain and he winced it away. With his eyes closed he continued, ”You should take her up on the offer before she loses interest in you and finds someone more… appealing.”

"She'll wait," said Mnem confidently. With a spot of luck, this would not take long, and when they were done with Shinrai they could let him on his merry way and she could come back to the bar and pick up the woman. She just needed to find some way to get Shinrai out of the bar and back to her place, so Minh could run her tests. She actually wasn't planning on doing the stallion any harm this time around--he looked to be in enough pain already. She wondered what dark and manly thing Shinrai could have done to put himself in such an awful mood with what might have been an awful headache, but she didn't particularly care.
Booze was the first thing that came to her mind, when she started thinking of ways to get Shinrai to leave with her, but she suspected that the stallion would not fall for the same trick twice.
"What are you really doing here, darling?"

”I’ve already answered that question,” the stallion retorted sharply in another sudden display of frustration and aggression. Mnem’s insufferable attitude, his abruptly aching head, and the fact that he couldn’t seem to hold his temper all culminated into an extremely irritable mood and he knew he should just leave and save himself the trouble of dealing further with the woman.
”Forget it,” he said flatly. ”I’m getting out of here.” He reached into his bag for coins to cover the cost of his drink and paused when he bumped against the bottle of the potion he had purchased not too long ago. He hesitated again as he thought about it. The day afterwards he had stared at the bottle and then stuck in his bag, feeling almost bad for purchasing it. He had no guarantees of its result, though it was expected that Besaba was an expert in her field and would know wot would happen with the potion. But he had serious second thoughts about using it.

Well. Someone needed to take a nap. And quite possibly a good deal of happy pills. Mnem almost considered letting him go--he was being even more of a sullen, insufferable ass than usual; there was a lovely woman not far who really would be pleased by her attentions; she could have an enormously good time drinking and then having sex, and the she could go home and tend to her plants and perhaps make some delightful cheesecake for herself and Minh--but she was taking his attitude as a personal affront, at this point. For the most part she managed to handle rejection with the comfort that she would either be able to win a person over later or at least exact revenge, but this was getting under her skin.
"If you're leaving," said Mnem firmly, staring at the stallion as he reached into his purse, "then I shall merely follow."

The stallion's eyes closed again in frustration and he dumped the needed coins on the table. "Just GO, Mnem," the Marshdweller snapped again before jerking his bag back over his neck and stalking to the door. His tail lashed angrily as the barkeep opened his mouth to speak, but when the horse snarled at him, the man retreated with a disapproving eye. He'd find the payment on the table if he was fast enough.
Golden and yellow hooves clopped down the street in an angry-sounding cadence following the rage of his frustration as he tried to do the right thing and walk away from the situation. He was going to be the bigger man here-- well, besides in the obvious way-- and not escalate the tension between them. All he really needed now was for Mnem to let him do it. And, as always, that was the real rub. The arrogant little twit.

Oh, she was going all right. Right out of the bar and after Shinrai, as the stallion slapped down his money, made snarly faces at another man, and stomped down the street like an angry child. Mnem hated dealing with children. Repulsive creatures, the lot of them. Which made her more determined to keep after him. The door on the opportunity with the Highlands woman was slamming shut, but she had a new mission in mind. She was going to find out what stick the stallion had lodged up his arse, and then--well, she didn't quite know what she was going to do, but he was going to be sorry, whatever it was.
She could plot on the way to--wherever it was Shinrai appeared to be headed. His house, perhaps. Mnem had never been there. Not that she had ever wanted to, or that she would be a welcome guest, but that was neither here nor there really.
She was curious as to what it would be like. And she was going to find out.
"I rather think it's dangerous for you to be wandering the night all alone," she said brightly, falling into step next to him. She had to walk quite a bit more briskly than usual, but that was no matter. "I think I should see you safely to your destination. Lovely little breeze for a walk, anyway."

The stallion's voice was pained, "I don't have the patience or desire to deal with you right now, Mnem. Go away." He briefly debated trying to give her the slip with his Jack power, but his head just too freakin' much to do it. He couldn't even seem to concentrate. Perhaps that's why it didn't occur to him to find a better way to shake her off or send her on her way. He just didn't feel well enough to be able to concentrate.
So he did something he never would have done. He just let her follow him home. He opened the door to his suite and tried to close it in her face, but his head hurt enough that it just wasn't worth it to try too hard. It really was unusual for his head to be pounding quite this bad. He cautiously dropped his bag and headed for the kitchen to find his meds. He had something there.
