(An Electric Meeting)
The night was dark with storm clouds and bristling with electricity and the freshly enhanced 10 of Spades had hurried out into the stormy weather toting her equipment like a holy item. She'd been playing with his concept for a few months now and she wanted to test it properly now that she had a chance. A chance, of course, would be harnessing a great deal of natural electricity to power her newest experiment.
However, as anyone would tell you, playing with lightning always had its possible downs and for Vana this night was no different. For the first half hour everything was fine, slow...but fine. That is, until a sudden cacophony of noise and movement distracted the butterfly at a painfully crucial moment. Lightning had just struck the lightning rod she'd set up to collect electricity and in the shadow of the blinding light she'd seen something dart by but before she could get a good look at whatever was causing the movement the tip of her wing brushed the charged pole. A yelp of pain escaped her and the butterfly collapsed into a heap on the rain-sodden earth.
The sudden jolt of high voltage had given her quite the shock and had, briefly, knocked the poor insect unconscious. What she woke to, however, was even more shocking.
A little gray figure was on her chest, basking in the rain and crooning happily in the electric storm flashing overhead. Parvana blinked slightly, clearing her vision until the figure became clear enough to identify as a Mome Rath. A flash of lightning put it in clear relief and Parvana grinned as it crooned in excitement. Did it enjoy lightning too?
"Hi little guy, enjoying the storm? I do too, even though...I think I need to go in." She was chatting idly with the little Mome, curious to see how it'd react. Everyone said they were...well, a bit rowdy. This one, however, was rather pleasant and seemed to be almost...listening. "You really are listening, aren't you?" Slowly she sat up, running her paw through the Mome Rath's spiky fur and delighting as she heard the static crackle but felt nothing on her fingers. That... was interesting! Shivering happily she perked up and beamed cheerfully. High ranking Spades were supposed to be able to summon Slithey Toves or, in rare cases, Mome Raths? Maybe this was hers! "Why don't you come home with me, hmm? I'll give you a name and everything, lil fellow. You look like a little wolf, perhaps I'll call you that... How does Faolin sound to you?" The Mome let out a delightful little croon and hopped, rushing up to situate itself upon Parvana's shoulder as she climbed to her paws. "I'll take that as a yes then!"
Laughing to herself, Parvana gathered up her equipment and hurried back to the house. Once the storm had passed she just had to tell Anatolius!
When Parvana first reached the rank of 10 and was able to call her summon for the first time she'd been delighted. Sure the meeting had been awkward, but her little Faolin had grown on her very quickly and she wouldn't have given him up for the world. Anatolius could not say the same. His meeting had been equally awkward, but the little Mome did not warm to him nearly as well. In fact, it took every chance it got to bite the hell out of him...and the moment Parvana turned to look, he stopped.
Anatolius made up his mind regardless of what Parvana would say: her summon wasn't a Mome, oh no, it was The Devil.
Parvana, of course, adored her little Mome and spoiled it so insistently rotten that it couldn't help but love her to pieces. Ah well, Anatolius would 'come over' eventually.
