Thank you Vyn, Sera, Jenn, and Kitty for reading and commenting in the last chapter <3. It means SO MUCH to me you have no idea XD;
Anyway, this chapter you'll get to see a bit of Silvanus' family history and his relationship with his mummy <3. I'm curious to see what people think of his family XD; and if I should maybe change it around a little bit? I know religion was never really talked about in terms of SoD so I tried to be kinda...vague about it. Anyway ^^; read and comment please! Constructive critizism is welcome as well XD;.

Before the event that was to change Silvanus and his mother’s lives forever, Silvanus had lived a life with little to complain about. His mother was a famous Goldsmith for the courts, he was beginning to learn the tricks of the trade, and (more importantly) he was turning 10 pretty soon. His mother and he had been having long conversations around that time about what he wanted to do for his birthday. Since Silvanus had been home schooled, he really didn’t have any friends. Well, Avington was a rather friendly place as a rule, it seemed. At least in the area that he had lived, the neighbors were all exceptionally nice. However, he didn’t really have any true friends, let alone those his age.
”So….we’ve been talking about this for a while, Hun. Your birthday isn’t getting any farther away you know.” his mother, Cerynitis, said with a smile. She stood near the recently cleaned dishes she had been doing before addressing her son, who sat watching her at the dining table. When he wasn’t doing chores himself, and his mother was, he generally liked to sit and watch her. He was just the kind of child that was content to sit and watch their parents do things, as if they were somehow deeply precious, as if when they looked away they would not be there when they turned back.
He admired his mom greatly. He was the only child Cerynitis and his father, Giles, ever produced. They might have had more, if Giles had not insisted on his missionary duties. He was a deeply religious man, and had gotten it into his head that he could save the rabbits of Tugley Wood from their sins. Deeply religious, deeply ambitious, deeply stupid. Cerynitis cried heavily the night before his departure, only 2 or 3 years ago. Silvanus could still remember how hard she protested. ”I will not deny those that need salvation.” and that had been the end of it. In the morning he left and never came back. It was to be expected. It was a generally unspoken subject in the house, though from time to time, Silvanus was sure that Cerynitis thought about her husband just as much as he thought about his dad. He was sure the consensus was that he had died, but there was hope within him that he would be pleasantly surprised. He was sure his mother felt the same. He admired his mom’s strength, her courage, and her heart.
But those thoughts were far from his head this night, ”I know.” he said simply, watching his mom approach the table he was sitting at, and pull out a chair for her to sit across from him. She folded her arms, resting her head upon her delicate wrists. She looked up at him and smiled. ”So…anything definite yet? You don’t want to have no celebration at all do you?” she said with a bit of soft laughter. He smiled, knowing deep down that the question was not a threat at all. Even if he never decided, his mother would always come up with something nice. ”Not really,” he said mimicking her laughter, then scratching the top of his head, near his growing antlers, in thought. ”Well, really I just want to do something nice with you mommy.” At this she laughed a little harder, ”Oh, really? Or are you just being a little butt kisser in hopes you’ll get better presents.” she said jokingly reaching over the table to grasp his cheek in a pinch. Silvanus made a bit of a noise at his mother’s playful pinching, when she let go he giggled a bit and said, ”Well, when you put it that way.”
