(I don't think Dilis ever know Malachior's wife in person. If she had, then she would have known Ophelia...and I think that would mess up timelines? Unless you want her to know her relation to Ophelia?)
Malachior was quiet as he listened to her speak. Almost amused by it, in all actuality. She was getting a bit more backbone now, wasn't she? To say she did not need her father.
In all reality, he was sure they needed each other with equal desperation. She clung to her father and he clung to her, and they broke each other's hearts with their sharp words and their hate and then ran crying and hugging in apologies. Malachior could never forgive a daughter like Dilis, he was not sure how his brother had tolerated it for so long.
Even if he had loved his daughter, he hadn't tolerated Ophelia's behavior. She would learn how to act or she would not live under his roof and she had, ultimately, chosen not to live under his roof.
Things would have been different for both children, though, had their mothers lived long enough to see them grown. The thought of his wife made his heart ache but he ignored it, hardened himself to it, and went on to make the tea.
When he returned, his gaze had softened a little. He set the tray between them and finally took a seat of his own before pouring himself a cup of tea. "It's Esterberry White, your father sent it to me a while back." He murmured as he poured his glass and set to sipping it. When the tea had considerably calmed his nerves, he allowed himself to focus on a few things he had ignored previous. Firstly was her new bipedal form and secondly, her equally new pearls.
"How long have you had your biped form, then?" He went on, sipping his tea between words and watching her with those ever-piercing green eyes.

((we only had a problem knowing each other when they were going to be sisters, remember? it wouldn't matter if they just cousins. and because you mentioned Dilis knowing about Malachi's court doings which would have been when she was younger... well yea, she would have to know his wife. if Dilis was around during that time, she knows who Ophelia is and understands they're cousins. It just wouldn't make sense otherwise.))
Dilis was getting nervous from him being quiet so much; she did not trust quiet people, never knew just what they were thinking about. That was certainly not a safe thing around Uncle Malachi either... no matter, she accepted his kindness for letting her in and getting her some tea. Despite his words, he was family and she still loved him. She knew he had a hard time since her Aunt died... Father had told her when it happened. She herself was devastated when it happened, she could only imagine the toll it took on him.
After he had situated himself again, she leaned forward and carefully poured herself some tea... just like Father had taught her.
"Esterberry white? That is my favorite, thank you" she said after she had sipped some.
"He told me it was the last thing he took when he left Esterberry. I hope he and I can go back sometime to see his home..." She was about to fall into sad thoughts about Father when he mentioned her form and pearls.
"My form? Well, I obtained it not that long ago and the pearls as well actually. A day or two ago, I woke up and found the pearls were around my neck. He never let on but I would assume they were from Father. He is always doing sneaky things like that." She was still getting used to balancing on two legs rather than four but so far she had not met the floor... she was doing good.

Anwen's death had taken more than it's casual toll on him. It had sliced him to the bone and the man he had been before her death and the man he was now were hardly comparable. He spoke of separating Court Life from Personal Life, but he now found it harder than ever to ease that wall down.
It didn't matter, no one was going to see that side of him again. It died with his wife.
Luckily, though, Dilis had mentioned none of this aloud and Malachior's thoughts were safe from the memories of his past loves lost.
"You're welcome," he muttered cordially over the edge of his tea cup before taking another deep sip of the smooth tea. "Esterberry... It's a decent place, especially if you need information." He paused, mentally rolling his eyes. "Or if you're a fan of books."
As she spoke about her pearls and her form, Malachior nodded casually from time to time. "Good. You're working your way up there then... Do you intend to gain your human form as well?" He arched a brow, trying to figure out just what it was about her pearls that brought his eye back time and time again. "As for your pearls, that's just like your father, surprising you with things like that -- I would be quick to peg it on him as well."

Dilis worried about her uncle sometimes but knew enough not to admit it. It was a very sad time for everyone when Aunt Anwen died but he seemed to have a harder time than anyone understandably. He used to be a nice man, he did not have to pretend he loved her back then... she actually knew. She could only imagine how it felt for his daughter, Ophelia.
She smiled at him now, as he spoke of Esterberry; Father had told her stories of being then as a boy but she never got the chance to visit it herself. She supposed the memories were too much for him so she never pressed him either.
"My human form? Well yes, as soon as I am capable I plan to obtain that as well. I am going to work my way up from Jack (and I will get Jack Rank) to King and if I so feel the need, I wish to become a Queen as well. Not THE Queen of Clubs for now because I feel that as of right now I could not do a better job than Queen Aderlass is. "

Neither Anwen nor Malachior had ever been exceptionally loving people, but the Malachior of then was nothing like the man was now. Anwen had softened him and, in turn, had made the world seemed softer. She was gone though, and so was the man who had loved her.
What was left was only a shell of the man. A shadow of himself, for all that he continued to function and showed little damage which had resulted from her death.
Presently he was nodding as she spoke, sipping his tea as he murmured his approval. "Very good. A human form will be a great benefit for you and your magic." When she spoke of becoming a Queen, however, Malachior snorted and sat forward abruptly; his tea momentarily forgotten. "Child, you've barely begun to understand being a Jack. Do you know what work comes with even being titled as A Queen? Let alone The Queen?"
It took more willpower than he had anticipated to keep from laughing, but he kept his face straight and even. His intention wasn't to be mocking, despite the urge to be.

Dilis knew it was just her Uncle’s way to mock her; it was alright because he had been like that all her life and she was used to it. She did not mind it so much, as she understood why he acted that way; it did not matter anyway because he was family and she did love him regardless of him not necessarily reciprocating.
She was surprised though by his sudden approval, he wanted her to get her human form and that pleased Dilis somehow.
“Yes sir, I plan to work very hard once I have obtained it and move up in the Courts. I no longer want to do it just to please Father; I would like to make something of myself. I know I have a long way to go but I have faith in myself that I will prevail. All I need to do is focus and forego the things that stand in my way.”
Mother had taught her that; she had told Dilis before she died that she should never let a person talk down to her or tell her that she was not good enough for something.
“As I had said, I do not wish to become THE QUEEN; I just hope that someday I may become A queen. I do not wish to take a title from anyone who has earned it. Those who simply take never minding those who work hard… well that is another story. "
Dilis was not interested in the dog eat dog world, she felt that those who earned the position could take it and not just brute their way into position.

Malachior's desire to laugh hadn't faded one bit. In fact, it grew substantially as she spoke. Make something of herself? That was possible, but to approach Queenship of any sort was quite out of the hands of a girl who had barely grasped Jackhood.
"I wasn't suggesting that you intended to be The Queen. You don't have that in your, girl. I was asking if you knew the work involved with any sort of Queenship?" He arched a brow, narrowed his eyes, and sneered down at her. "I will tell you again, that you will get nowhere if you can't learn to take what is yours."
Abruptly he slumped back into his chair, waving his hand as if to cast off the subject. It wasn't his place, nor in his interest, to explain the ways of the Court to her. "You will learn that on your own, the longer you stay within those walls." His return to those very walls had been a long time coming, he looked forward to it.

Normally Dilis would have been upset by his attitude but today with all her problems... this was just too inconsequential. She had long since seen it coming anyway, before she even got to his home.
"I know that I will have to work hard if I wish to obtain the things I want and I plan to. I am an Ó Braoin through and through and have been paying attention to the things Father has taught me about how to act and what to do. I have slipped up once in twenty one years and I feel I have a pretty good track record so far. I will not slip up again, this you can bet on" she said as she took another sip of her tea.
"If you would not mind however, I would like to change the subject. This one is just too annoying and will get neither of us here nor there." There was one thing she had really wanted to ask him about and she figured this was her chance.

Malachior arched a brow smoothly, eyes narrowing tightly. Her defiance -- and her attempt to force the conversation where she willed it -- showed a bit more back bone than he was used to and Malachior was somewhere between pleased and the intense urge to laugh out loud.
What foolish pride she showed toward a family name that was so...laughable. His brother and his pride, running off to make a 'clan' of his own. Malachior could compliment him only on the skill with which he manipulated his minions. Worse yet, Malachior's favorite of them all had been Dilis's mother. Pity the woman was dead.
The previous subject, however, was done. He had decided that the moment he'd relaxed into his chair and so, with a careless shrug, he reclaimed his tea and nodded his head. "Change the subject then, girl. I don't care." He inclined his head tilting, the light casting a gleam on his glasses and hiding his eyes from her view.
