The land was covered in darkness... or it would have been had it not been a full moon tonight, it's silvery light canceling out the veil of darkness. It made the town below look almost intimidating in the ghost town sort of way. It seemed the residents were either gone or sleeping at this exact point in time and the dilapidated state of, well, everything just made it seem like nothing could be living here... but he knew different... this was home... as much as he disliked it.
He wasn't really near enough the town to be seen as he still lingered on the edge of the Sorgaire range, and in all actuality... he didn't intend on going home. He'd left for a reason but he did tend to frequent here to... look over it's residents. At birth they'd named him their protector... their saviour... his very name... Osias, was a reflection of this. He didn't intend to disappoint them further.... but he couldn't' return... not just yet.
He was taken from his silent reverie's by a sound behind me which was greeted first by rounded ears swinging back and then by his head following suit... those oozing, yellow visionaries, which probably looked more gold in this light, taking in the only other soul that stirred.
Who goes there?

Lucio sat watching the Lowlander, as he sat wathing over his city. Curious, he thought. Not that he spent any great deal of time out here in this small strip of no-mans-land between his range and the Lowlands, but to his knowledge, Lucio had never seen a Lowlander take any interest in their home, except for wanting to leave. While not looking exactly like he wanted to return, this one still seemed to have some sort of fondness for the land from wich he came. Failing to fight his growing curiosty, Lucio began to inch closer to the Bipedal rat, without really knowing why. Haveing moved several feet closer, he made one small mistake, feeling a tiny twig crackle under his front paw. Drawing in his breath and freezing, he thought mabey the Lowlander was too wraped up in his thoughts and hadent heard the small snap. Seeing the Rats ears twitch back, followed by the head turning in his general direction, Lucio knew his small game was up. Raising himself to his normal walking hight, he steped out of the shadows. Walking slowly towards the Rat, casting his eyes about, then quickly looking up towards the moon. Easy there...I mean no harm. I'm Lucio.

Osias watched him carefully, assessing every move he made now that he'd been caught watching and deemed his as friend versus foe. Upon further inspection he saw that the mustildae was from the range and he relaxed further, not completely, for he was never fully relaxed, but enough. Perhaps if the moon had not been full the Sorgaire native might have gone undetected because of his coat colors... however under the light of the moon nothing could hide here.
At the others words his ears twitched again, pity that the watcher was male, he did so fancy Sorgaire females. However, this was his preferred company, and he -was- of the red suits, making him even more of a favorable companion, thus Osias would bite back on his snarky nature a bit, unless it was provoked that is. He wasn't quite ready to share his name either ...
Tell me, Lucio... what are you doing out here this late?

Comeing to a stop a few comfortable feet from the Lowland native, Lucio tilted his head studying this unexpected company. Noteing the tense muscles of the other, and the lack of an introduction, Lucio determend he had come far enough, and sat easily on his haunches, folding his wings comfortably at his sides.
Oh..me? I prefer the late night for my walks and wanderings, Sir. It is generally more quiet as...most tend to be asleep at this time. It gives one an oppritunity to think and consider, or just feel the wind run through ones fur.

He was, indeed, a native... his heritage stamped on every part of his frame, but he didn't reside here... nor did he ever plan on coming back. However... he was bound to the land by an oath and even with how shady he was... a promise was a promise. His dreams were large and so was his level of ambition and one day, yes, one day the lowlands would have the full support of the Court of Diamonds. Power would not ever erase his roots....
However he had other things to think about now and once again focused his thoughts upon the other before him, finally relaxing his muscles further at the explanation. The night was, indeed, the best time to wander... not as many eyes and for more favorable conditions....
With this in mind he finally spoke up, introducing himself. Osias.

"Osias..My pleasure, I am sure" Lucio replied as he inclined his head slightly, accepting the introduction. "You are not the only one who is a bit surprised to find another out"..-waveing paw around in a general motion-"here, this late."
Stepping a few feet closer to the Rat, Lucio folded his paws under himself and relaxed, looking out over the space from where they were to the Lowlands. Looking over to Osias, he said "I try not to be like them you know" tossing his head back towards the Range of his homeland. "I cant help but carry some of the prejudices I was raised with, but I do my best to leave them in my past."
Lucio dident really know why he was telling this newfound companion these things, except for the fact he knew most Lowlanders were quite wary by nature, and the fact that this one was of Red Suit, and a 10 no less, was by far no accident.

It wasn't that he was truly wary, more like just plain bitter. He'd encountered many a negative glance or word throughout his life and no one, except his fellow low landers (and not even all of them), truly thought he could become anything great, but he was on his way to attaining his goals and all that bitterness just turned into fuel for that ever burning fire.
The beliefs of others bother me not, even I have negative thoughts of my own region as a whole. Individually... it all really depends... in every realm.
He'd noticed that no one was truly happy with every aspect of their lives, they always wanted something more, even if that desire was small. Most however carried aspirations that were far larger then their desire to attain them, leaving them bitter to others cause they are actually unhappy with themselves. These thoughts, however, he kept to himself.
Really, who in their right mind would live there?
If only the region had the means to fix their home up properly... perhaps devise a few attractions and rake in that tourist money, or, at the very least, find something to blackmail a prosperous city over... but they weren't all like him and you can't change the true nature of anyone no matter how hard you tried.

"Ah, yes. I agree. I try to let an individual speak for themself, regardless of home, rank, or suite...though one can never truly disregard all of that."
Standing, Lucio stretched, then turned once again, peering out over the Lowlands.
"Who would want to live there, you ask? I have found that, in general, people can be...content, if not absoultely happy, no matter where they lay their head and call home. Excepting the few with high ambitions, and the drive to chase them. But yes..as dreary as it looks, I can imagine a man working hard for his supper, and comeing home to a wife and mabey a child, and not haveing very much trouble going to sleep at night. Contentment is what the world, as a rule, strive for. They may all have their small dreams and desires, but at the end of the day, they are happy enough with a full belly and a bed to crawl into."
Looking over at Osias, Lucio continued
"You can not expect them all to be like you, you know. You, it seems, have very high ambitions, and a will strong enough to work towards them. I admire it, as they do, I'm sure. But people, espically those of the Lowlands it seems, generally just except what the Fates have given them, and dont have the drive to change what is. So, tell me, Osias, what brings you here to watch over your folk? A love for a people you hope will wake from their slumber and strive to better their region? But your ambition seems more than that..I think you are here for much deeper reasons, weather you are willing to share them or not."

The mustelid's first sentence didn't face the rat as he peered over his homeland almost with disdain, but mostly nothing was there, as if he were merely looking at something that was strictly ornamental and certainly not inhabitable by anything near the stature of a creature... not even the tiniest mouse.
He listened to Lucio's speech on contentment and a frown tugged at the corners of his mouth but he resisted it quite well. Full belly? Not likely in the lowlands, very few actually got the sustenance they needed and most just barely scraped by, most having to leave to even get enough to eat for themselves much less a family. This Lucio should take up residence there for awhile, see how things really went... but on the other hand... Osias could see where he could be coming from, although he didn't totally agree.
However at his next little speech he gave a little twitch, is that what he was really disgusted about, deep down? Did he really loathe his own people because they lacked the ambition and goals he did? He... couldn't answer that... not even to himself ... and it bothered him.
A rounded auditory twitched in Lucio's direction, catching his question. A love for them? No, not really, far from love actually. But he did have a reason, a reason that tugged at him by strings of blood, and a debt he believed he owed, along with an oath. It was a complicated matter, one in which he'd rather not go into great detail over at the time, but he figured the other might get that... being a decently ranked Heart and all. A promise binds me to this land.
His voice was terribly flat and almost completely monotone, enough to mask anything else that crept toward the surface.

Lucio regreted the wording of 'a full belly' almost as soon as it had left his mouth. He noticed the corners of his companions lips tug sharply down for a second, and admired the tact he had in not retorting. He knew full well the Lowlanders rarely had enough, if any, food at night. But he also noticed the change in countance in Osias face when he started talking about the Lowlanders people, and decided he had best be carefull, for, it seemed, he had come very close to crossing some line. But the response the Rat gave, in such a flat voice, is what gave him pause, and made him blink silently for a second.
"A promise binds you to your land? A Diamond from the Lowlands is quite the anomile, I'm sure. A person from the Lowlands with Pride and the Ambition to leave and become something more is not quite in the Norm either. And now you throw a sense of Honor ontop of it all? Ah, Osias, the Fates truly broke the mold when they made you, did they not? The world would be a bit better place if more were born with a couple of your charatiertics...though mabey without quite as much distrust and disgust with those you shart it with. Though I am sure this world has given you eveyr right to feel that way. It is not an easy place, and even less so for those of the Lowlands. I'd love to say the world is not out to get you..but in these times, it seems that it truly is."
"But enough of all that, Hmm"? -Darting back into the shadows a bit, Lucio returns with a burlap sack and sets it down and noses it open- "Lets see..I have a few eggs, and some bits of meat if you are interested? It is not a large meal, but I wasent expecting company either.."
