Cerynitis had always been strong of will, and despite her half dead state, she managed to pull through. The recovery period was long and painful, but at last she was on her hooves again. Even so, Silvanus had noticed a change, something about his mother that he had never seen, even with the disappearance of his father. She was quiet often, and seemingly aloof. She ate a lot more then normal, and some rather strange combinations, which even Silvanus with his childish appetite couldn’t understand. The mornings were a symphony of the birds outside and his mother’s retching and crying in the bathroom.
He really didn’t have any idea what was the cause of all this sudden change, but he did recognize and understood one thing. Whatever had happened that night, which she so miraculously survived, had taken something away from her. For all the strength he had seen his mother have in the past, he now saw what seemed to be a fragility to her. It made him think about himself about his own fragile nature, and about the fact that he was nowhere near the kind of powerful person he had always imagined his mother was. His mother was depressed.
It became clear later that all his mother’s eating had given her quite a belly. But as Silvanus soon learned, it was not the food that was making her body swell.
Cerynitis figured that she wouldn’t be able to hide Silvanus from what was to come forever. She had never really spoken to Silvanus about the birds and the bees in the past and she knew that he was probably fairly oblivious to everything going on. Somehow it just wouldn’t be fair. She wanted to leave his mind to other things, but under the circumstances, she felt pressed to have “The Talk”. It was the first time in what seemed like an eternity that she and Silvanus spoke the way they used to, for hours on end, answering questions and just…generally engaging in a long conversation.
Of course though, the conversation could only end one way when he found out that his mother was pregnant. His father wasn’t around, which left the baby with only one other alternative.
”You…had sex…with Him?” he asked, feeling completely uncomfortable in asking the question. The whole subject was awkward in and of itself, but having …sex…with a monster?
His mother’s face contorted several times, changing from one thing to another, as if unable to decide which emotion to portray. ”Yes, but I didn’t want it.” She said, unable to find the proper words to explain further.
Though she wouldn’t have to…suddenly the words of the cursing officer filled his head, and he picked out one in particular that seemed to hit the nail on the head. ”Is that what Rape is?”
His mother was shocked that he had not known what Sex was…but had already managed to learn the word Rape. She had nothing to say, but simply nodded.
Silvanus let the idea sink in a bit, but not without an inner rage boiling. His mother had said that sex could be really beautiful, and a bonding experience with your forever mate unparalleled. To force something like sex upon someone…seemed….evil. He couldn’t even quite grasp the idea, or just how ‘evil’ it was, but he seemed to be able to pick up that it was definitely not ok. Now his mother was pregnant with this monsters baby…and there was nothing she could do about it. His mother should never have to go through something like that. His beautiful, wonderful, strong mother. The monster had broken her!
That night he cried harder then he had ever cried in his entire life. Harder even, then when he had realized his father would never come back. There were many tears shed, and many more to be, as time passed and his mother came closer and closer to the due date.
Finally the day did come for the monster spawn to be born. A midwife was called, and Silvanus insisted on being there with his mother, who seemed to be in more pain then he had ever seen her before. He was afraid to leave her side. The hours went by, and Silvanus cried several times before the monster baby was finally born.
”It’s a boy, a King!” the midwife said excitedly, oblivious to everything that this baby stood for. She left with the bloody heap, but not without giving her a bit of a look.
The look was explained when she finally came back, the baby screaming something horrible, and all washed and wrapped up in a blanket. Silvanus looked at his exhausted mother. The skin around her eyes was purple, and watery. He couldn’t tell if her tears were from the previous pain…or the pain to come.
The baby was brought over so that the two of them could look at him. It was probably the ugliest thing that Silvanus had ever seen, and he could feel the rage boiling within him, the same rage he felt when he finally learned what the word “Rape” was and that it had happened to his mother. It was part Golfam part Avington, but with much more Golfam, save the tree on the babies back. It’s body was that of a disproportionate canine, its front legs longer and lankier then it’s back ones, and its head looked as if it had been slapped on a completely different body, coming in the form of some strange long faced ungulate. Its teeth were sharp and meat eating, eerie in the mouth of a deer faced creature.
Silvanus looked at his mother, but her expression was blank. He couldn’t understand what she was feeling, what she was thinking, and it scared him. He hated the ugly child. He hated it more then one could possibly fathom. It had changed everything…
