I had no idea Peaches would spew this much emo at me in one one night. I hope at least it's an enjoyable read. XD I should not be up right now.
She knelt in front of the grave stone. Staring at it with a scowl on her face. She wanted to kick the damn thing over for all the trouble it caused. Peaches let out a small hiss as she flopped down in front of the grave. The woman wasn't graceful when she didn't pay attention. Cat-like or not.
"I loved you, you know? And then you had to get yourself murdered," she growled at the name on the stone. "Basil, I miss you." Tears were streaming down her face before she knew it. Sobbing tried to wipe away all of the tears. It hurt so much. She just kept on losing people, one at a time. She didn't want to. It just happened. One person after enough.
Why... was this happening? How had she gotten attached to Pravus? It was supposed to be a fling wasn't it? Her sobs grew louder as she rocked a bit. Her arms were wrapped around her knees as she continued to look at the gravestone in front of her. Her twin brother had been murdered and left on her doorstep so many years ago. It wasn't her fault exactly, he had gotten into really weird... things. The image of his body, human form and all, in a puddle of blood. His chest was so mutilated it just looked like a pile of meat. She whimpered at the memory.
The cat shook her head. She found herself on her knees, brushing the dirt off of the stone. No one really did come to visit him did they? How many people didn't care about the people she loved? The thought made her shudder. She was here in the first place because she couldn't say the words "I love you" right? Xiven had to catch her while she was half asleep. Maybe if she had said it... Pravus wouldn't be the way he was.
It was all her fault wasn't it? She was so very useless, and she just couldn't... couldn't help. She wanted to be there for him but now he was talking to his dead Queen. The sobs were heavier now. She couldn't really control it anymore. Being miserable at home was normal, right? That was the only reason she came back, so she could be miserably without people staring.
"Basil... if you were still alive you would know what to do. You always knew what to do! You were smarter than me, you got your human form before me, you did everything right. Why did you have to screw up and... why did you have to die? Was it just because I said that I loved you? You were my brother, I was supposed to say it. I said it all the time and it just made things worse!" She started to choke on her tears. It hurt so badly. All of it. "I-I wasn't supposed to like Pravus as if he were family. I-It j-j-just happened!"
She was so stupid. Stupid! That was the only word for it! Why had she gone and found a family in the Courts? It would have been easier if she disconnected herself from it all, but she couldn't. She had felt awful when Serafino had died. She had been terrified to find out that Bernard was injured so badly. She just didn't want anymore people to get hurt.
"Basil..." she whimpered. His name didn't make her feel any better. It normally did.
She flopped backwards to look at the sky. Well, there wasn't much light. She closed her bleary eyes and took deep breathes. Her whole body hurt from the sobbing and tears. She was miserable all because of... looking for happiness? Whatever. She didn't know anymore.
"Hey there sweetheart, what's got you so down?" said a familiar voice.
Peaches' eyes fluttered open. The image of a heron greeted her. "Loreta?"
"One and only," the bird snorted as she offered the woman a hand. She would have shifted to her human form if it weren't for her damned leg. "Now why the hell are you on the ground like that? Did you finally snap?"
Peaches snorted. "It's a long dramatic story filled with angst and love and the boring stuff that you hate so much."
"Fine. At least get off your brother's grave. You look like an idiot."
The woman couldn't help but smile at her friend's comment. She accepted her hand and was pulled up. Maybe... maybe she should just go and see Hatter. A Perfect Stranger would understand, or at least give her a proper hug.
