Warning/Note: There is somewhat graphic violence >_> I felt the need to portray an angry Hatter, viola. XD Enjoy? [cough] Yeah. XD
Hatter was in one of his rare bad moods.
They didn't happen often, as he usually had nothing to be truly upset over, but on the off chance that he did have a reason to be grumpy then good scarcely came from it. As it was, Hatter was overwhelmed at the moment and so unsettled by the goings on in the world that his research was suffering for it. With all the drama within the world, with his loved ones in particular, it was all too much and it brought his work to a grinding halt.
With the excuse of taking Mango for a walk to avoid being questioned, Hatter stalked through Capital City with Mango tagging cheerfully along.
For the time being they lurked through the shadows, avoiding people at whatever cost. In moods like these, it was positively for the best. Others had wandered upon him in moods like this before and had ended up worse for the ware and, often times, the product of his experiments. Tonight, though, he didn't want a new test subject. He wanted to walk and walk until he was so numb that he couldn't feel himself THINK.
Things like that, of course, simply didn't happen.
Rounding a corner, he quite suddenly found himself no longer alone. A small shadow snorted from the darkness and Hatter's eyes darkened a shade as Mango offered a contempt-filled sneeze as her retort. Another Bander then? Hatter stood his ground and, without further warning, the creature came hissing and spitting into view. It was green, scraggly, and had sunk its teeth into Hatter's leg before either Hatter nor Mango could react properly to its attack.
The Joker cursed loudly and cringed at the pain of the bite, shaking his leg a little to test just how deep the snarling creature had bitten him. It's frenzied bite had been faulty -- luckily for Hatter -- and it had gotten a mouthful of pant-leg more so than flesh. A bemused expression twisted the Joker's expression into a wide and haunting grin wrought with cruelty. Hatter gave the unpleasant little beast a kick in the head, causing it to turn its attention from his leg to his boot and it leapt back, snarling and spitting like an alley-cat. Hatter was prepared this time.
Mango had been straining at the leash, fully bristled and ready for a fight. Hatter wasn't about to hold him back any longer. "Mango, sic 'em." His voice was thin and spidery in the darkness, haunting compared to the war sounds that followed.
Mango was, in all ways, better than the green hellion he'd been unleashed upon, and under Hatter's eerie smile he brutalized the stray until it collapsed. Mango pounced, pinning the creature down with jaws that seconds away from snuffing their captive's life, but Hatter intervened with a subtle pat to his side. Mango growled, but relinquished his prize to the Joker who stroked and fondled the yellow bander affectionately as he cooed his approval.
Once Mango was satisfied back to silence, Hatter waltzed over -- watching as the pitiful creature attempted to lift itself up -- and then brought his foot down roughly onto the creature's head that ended the stray's life with a sickening crunch. A bemused smile was slowly growing onto Hatter's features as he stared down at the limp corpse, studying it as laughter began to bubble up into his chest.
"Y'know, Mango, I've never tried making a mechanical Bander before!" He laughed more freely now, lifting up the dead beast and turning smoothly to face his pet. "Why don't we go give it a try, hm?"
P.S.: No banders were harmed in the making of this fanfic... Alright, actually... I lied. The 'green hellion' that happened upon Hatter while he was being moody just so happened to be Fudo, Pravus's bander, that was neglected and became feral. Spideth has given me permission for this. XD
