Zuberi raised her brows. "Well, it usually be in good manners not to question ones nature, as those who actually -be- as stoic as they seem tend to take offense when their mannerisms be brought to scrutiny." She remarked pointedly.
"Well, his frugality don't surprise me because, well..." She paused, biting her lips as she realized she might have been going off at the mouth a bit too much. "Well, all the regions have their stereotypes, I'm afraid. Any Morganberry I've ever met has been... very ambitious.. and often are very particular with their money. I suppose a little sense with money doesn't hurt, though. I'm a bit of a penny pincher myself." And with that, she gave the broadest of smiles, as if enjoying another one of those private secrets of hers.
"But yes... That's such a good thing to hear. Will you be having a ceremony of any sort, or is it one of those modern setups where the union is understood to be indefinite? Nothing wrong with that.... I think I'd like to have a little ceremony if I were going to spend my life with someone.. but perhaps that's a girl's fancy."
She was very much rambling on... just making conversation and sharing her own ideas. "I think it's the food that makes it so appealing, the ceremony I mean. We're big fans of good food here in Midori."

"True, true. But it never hurts to investigate. Someone might be offended for a while, but at least you'd satisfy your curiosity." Rosewood said with a small smile as he picked up his tea. He sipped it quietly as he listened to what she had to say.
Oh stereotypes. Every single region had a stereotype that was false part of the time. Of course, there were stereotypes for a reason. He had knew many Tulgey who fit into the terrifying stereotype. He still shook his head. "Ambition and penny pinching is all well and good, but you got your broken mattress from the side of the street you might want to reconsider pinching those pennies. At least, that's my opinion. Everyone that I know does save their money, but he just... saves and never spends. I don't think it's the Morganberry so much as the line of his business sense."
He took another sip of tea, and quickly choked on it when Zuberi brought up the subject of marriage. Commitment was fine and all in Rosewood's book but, there was something about marriage that scared the snot out of him. If he was going to spend the rest of his life with Rogers that was all well and good, but the idea of a ring and...things bothered him.
"I don't think we could have a ceremony. Neither of our families would enjoy the event, I'm sure." He refrained from sighing and was happy in the change of subject.
"Food would make a ceremony appealing, I'm sure. But there's always reasons for get together for food. Birthday's were a big event in my family when I was growing up." He said with a shrug. "Is there anything that you would want at your dream come true ceremony?"

Despite her best efforts, a giggle erupted from the squirrel so suddenly that she had to cover her mouth to stifle it, hastily going to get a napkin to offer the swan to wipe his beak from the sputter. "Had I known it was a sensitive matter, I would have refrained from bringing it up!!" But her reaction was more mirthful than contrite.
Then there was a question turned on her, which delighted the squirrel. She didn't like having to ask all of the questions. "On a great ship, for sure, out on calm waters where we'd have the ceremony on board and set port on a lovely island where the reception could be held.. cooked with the best of spices... probably all local food though. I don't want to break too far from the traditional way." Finding her cup to be empty, she pushed it to the side of her to rest her elbows on the table. "I don't see myself ever getting married, though. Life be a busy one, I'm afraid. You wouldn't guess it by where I live, but don't mistake the laid back lifestyle to not be time consuming." And at that, she smiled broadly. Sure, Zuberi didn't work constantly, but the measures she took to remain stress free kept her even busier than if she merely worked and slept.

Rosewood gratefully accepted the napkin. He must have looked like quite the idiot for that reaction. He couldn't help but laugh at himself, he probably looked utterly ridiculous.
He tilted his head at her description of her ideal dream wedding. It sounded like quite the party. The last bit, though, was a bit of a downer. "Don't say that or it'll happen," he said with a small smile on his beak. "You're a perfectly nice and wonderful girl. I imagine someday a man is going to fall into your lap and you won't know what to do with yourself. I'm surprised you don't have someone. You're quite an attractive girl if you ask me."
He was being completely honest. If he wasn't happily gay and taken he probably would have made moves on her. She had a charm that not many people seemed to have anymore.

Some many years later... ------------ Years had went by since the Tulgey left Zuberi's home, and during that time, a hurricane had rended the little village apart. But the spirit of the Midori was strong. They rebuilt to become better than ever, though never did they lose their quaintness. Instead, dilapidated houses were now peaceful looking beach lodges, all of them posted up on stilts so as to be able to weather the future storms and risings of water. Zuberi's own house was done in such a manner, new yet already being overtaken again by the wilds that were barely contained behind her house. She rarely trimmed them back, finding the twining, reaching vines appealing in their own way. It was like an homage to what once was. Being larger than her previous home, and now taller at two stories, it seemed like Zuberi was doing a bit better for herself than before. Zuberi came back inside her home, sopping wet from the ocean water, with a net filled with delicacies from the sea, which she then prepared for a stew. It was such a beautiful day, she just wanted to throw some ingredients in a pot and let it simmer while she took the day to relax. So she very much did, kicking back and closing her eyes as her little ace skirted about her feet, pecking and scraping at whatever nibblies she may have dropped on the floor. Silly thing really thought he was a -real- chicken, didn't he?

It had been years. He was completely unsure of what to expect. For all he knew the woman could have moved. Either way, he had decided to take another vacation to the region after so many eventful years. He needed to leave Rogers alone for a while for both of their sanity's sake.
So why not take a trip to Midori? And either way he would pass by Zuberi's on his way to the small inn he was staying at. When he did arrive, he was not all that surprised to see the change of house. It was only natural. And it did occur to him that she move. It really was a matter of luck.
Either way he had brought a small bouquet of flowers. They would serve as an apology if he had the wrong house, and a nice surprise if he had the right one. The swan lightly knocked, hopefully she was still here....

She hadn't heard the knock at first. With the whispers in her sleep seeming to grow louder and louder every day. The first knock went unnoticed. It was her ace's incessant clucking that began to rouse her. The nibble he gave her toe though, nearly made her fall out of her hammock.
"Aiie! D'hell wrong wit ya?" Zuberi hopped on one foot for a moment before considering booting the chicken ace in the butt. The ace of course, skirted out of the way, wings flailing as he skittered out of her way, and towards the door before crowing. Zuberi paused, her dumbfounded expression finally lighting with realization. "Oh! Is there someone at the door, little chicky-chick? Is there? Huh?" She babytalked at the ace, reaching down to scratch the scruff of his feathers affectionately before opening the door.
It wouldn't be a surprise if Rosewood didn't recognize her. She was in human form, with an array of mutations that she'd acquired over the years. She paused of course, at the odd sight that was a Tulgey on her front porch. Tulgeys.. they were one of the few regions she saw little of. That was probably why it was so easy to recognize him. "Rosewood! Is that you? Oh, it seems like -all- my old friends have been visiting me as of late!
Her eyes drifted down to the flowers in his hands, her lashes fluttering in an almost comical fashion as her hand was drawn to her breast. "Aww, are those for me?"

When the door was open he couldn't help but blink in utter surprise. He didn't like women an any sort of sexual fashion so the thought that passed through his mind made him want to smack his head against a wall. Instead he continued to assume he had arrived at the wrong house.
Until she actually said his name. An eyebrow arched upward. Really. It was the same woman? His brain struggled to comprehend the matter as she continued to speak. Flowers. Right he was holding flowers.
He offered them to her with a smile. "I have to say that I'm more than a little surprised Zuberi. You've certainly changed quite a bit. I honestly thought I had the wrong house for a minute."
The swan still felt like he had the wrong house. And he was struggling not to stare at the strange set of wings the woman had. Goodness. What had happened to her?

Zuberi looked up from the flowers, glancing up coyly with her one good eyes as she breathed in the fresh scent of foreign flowers. "I get that a lot too, but this be the only form I don't have bone -spikes- protruding from me back. Then again.. that be a rather long story." She smiled, smelling the flowers once more. "They be -absolutely- lovely. Please.. come in and sit down. You seem a little tired.. and confused." She giggled.
At least the inside was a slight mirror of what once was. It was roomier, and now had a nice sized ice box, but there was still a cozy hearth, and a line of skulls across one wall of the room. Still a bit of organized clutter, but certainly more well dusted and spacious than her last home. Now though, she actually had an upstairs.
The little chicken ace toddled along, clucking merrily at the new person. He'd never seen a Tulgey before, but he didn't even have to look into the swan's eyes to feel that he was no threat, with how his owner reacted to him. He was a bird too! Not a chicken, but had feathers. Excitedly, he toddled underfoot, clucking and crooning up at the two upright individuals.

Rosewood blinked. Bone spikes out of her back? How exactly did someone end up with a mutation like that? Did he really want to know. The corners of his mouth twitched into a smile and he chuckled. At least she appreciated the flowers.
The inside was a bit comforting. It looked similar to what he remembered. Even the skulls were still there. He breathed a small sigh of relief. So he hadn't run into the wrong person and this was in fact the woman he had run into those years ago. His paranoia ebbed away, though he was still slightly confused by the feeling that he couldn't quite ignore.
He really didn't like women that way and yet... what was that feeling doing sticking around?
The chicken caught him by surprise. For a moment he honestly thought it was a chicken until he caught the glint of the chain and the coloration clicked. An Ace? A rather tiny one at that. "Cute pet," he said as he watched it with curiosity. "What's his name?"
