Zuberi was prompt to fill a vase with water and put the flowers in them, putting them on the table where they would make a lovely centerpiece for a few days. She hadn't had any tea made today, finding it far too hot. Instead, she pulled out a pitcher of some opaque, reddish colored liquid from the cooler and poured it into glasses for the both of them. The stuff smelled obviously of fruit, and would be tangy-sweet to the tongue.
"You know.. I've been trying all sorts of names, but he doesn't seem to respond to any of them! I just tend to keep talking in his direction till he figure it out, the silly thing. I really don't know how much he really understands. Hasn't spoke a word since I got him. From what I was told, he can't." She reached down and scritched the rooster behind the head, but he seemed too interested in the newcomer to really pay her much mind. Zuberi frowned at this. "Takes a liking to you, though. Probably cuz ya be avian? Goodness knows."
She giggled, and returned her attention to the swan before her."So... how ya been? Life been treating ya well, I hope?"

Rosewood tilted his head as he inspected the Ace. He really wasn't fond of them, but maybe that was because of his past experiences? Either way this was an interesting case. Either way the rooster seemed to be rather curious about him.
The swan reached down to scratch the Ace under the chin as Zuberi spoke. "That's a shame. I guess you'll just have to find something he responds to one of these days. And who knows, you might just have to teach him how to respond. Training pets never was a strong suit for me. I just stuck with fish."
He snorted as the little rooster ignored its master.
"Oh yes, for the most part life has been treating me well. Business is a little slow at both my jobs, but it will eventually pick back up again. I decided to take another small vacation to refresh myself in the meantime. And you... clearly a lot has happened to you--mostly good I hope?"

"I be having too much a tendency to -eat- fish for that, I'm afraid." Zuberi said with a giggle, shooing the ace away as the chicken fluffed up to double his size at Rosewood's snort. "I'd likely get lazy one day and decide to eat my pet instead of go fishing!" She gave a cruel little grin.
Zuberi paused mid-sip, blinking owlishly at the question. Coughing to clear her throat, she smiled. "Ah aye, good for the most part. Tha's how life usually is though. Ups and downs, hmm?"
She hastened to change the subject, standing up to busy herself with looking around in the fridge. "Tell me, what do you like to eat? It's been so long since you've come down to see me that I can't quite recall... And don't worry about work. It'll bounce back; the economy always likes to get a little funny when the Courts shift powers."

He chuckled at her comment. Well that was a plenty good reason to eat fish. He watched as the chicken fluffed up with a smirk. It really was a shame the poor thing couldn't understand.
The swan glanced at her her reaction. Perhaps he had said the wrong thing. Oh well, he wouldn't continue to pry into business that wasn't his. It wasn't like she was one of his many patients.
No kidding. He shifted uncomfortably at the mention of Courts. If it weren't for the Queen of Diamonds dying he was pretty sure his life would be at least a little bit brighter. Not only had he lost a very lovely patient, his boyfriend had lost his brother. And Rosewood was left unable to comfort the man properly. "I eat just about everything, really. Though I suppose for arguments sake, fish would be nice."

Goodness. Emotional baggage was just -thick- in the air, wasn't it? Zuberi made a mental note not to mention the courts much any more; it was hard to tell who had emotional ties with the people there; she sure as hell didn't know. That is, didn't know unless it was in a Court where she had friends at, which was a grand total of one; the Court of Hearts.
"Fish sounds lovely to me! It'll give me an excuse to cook dis bad boy..." Opening up her ice box, she pulled out a large, descaled fish that very much looked the length of her forearm. It was already covered in a crusted salt covering that was quickly put on a grill plate that she positioned over the fire once the kettle was out of the way.
Rinsing her hands in the sink, she moved back to the table and sat down "Tell me, are you still with that Morganberry fellow you told me about?" Despite her distrust of people from that realm, Zuberi was actually able to keep a smile on her face. After all, if Rosewood took a liking to him, could he really be that bad? She could hardly see such a delicate thing like Rosewood with a Morganberry who was crass and power hungry.

That was one hell of a fish. Rosewood found himself with one eyebrow arched upwards as the woman opened up the icebox. It wasn't every day he got to watch someone pull a huge fish out of nowhere and go to cook it. Home cooking, when was the last time he had had a proper meal like that?
He continued to watch her, his mind wandering absently. It took a few moments for him to realize that she had asked him a question. Blinking a few times to clear his head he responded, "Oh yes, we're still together. Through thick and thin we've managed to stay with each other throughout all of the problems. Right now though he's pretty stressed. Due to the death of his brother... he acquired half of a business and of course he's been rather depressed. Who wouldn't be?"
The swan sighed. "But that's a tangent for another time I suppose. How is your business going... if I remember correctly you were the village shaman of sorts?"

Her polite smile melted into that of sympathetic sadness, fine brows knitting over her strange eyes. "Oh, that's terrible! I'm sorry for the loss."
Zuberi might have pried more had she been allowed, but the swan was prompt to change the subject. She could take the hint. "Ah-ye. Priestess, really... they more or less mean the same thing in common tongue I admit... but we have a guy down da street who calls himself the shaman who deals with medicine, so we make a distinction for sake of keeping de confusion down. I deal with da voodoo mostly. Good and bad juju and the sort... But Anyway... it's good. It's not as if I really want for anythin', I don't spend much money, and taxes aren't so bad out here for all that we don't get the tourists that the bigger cities get. I live off the land, mostly."
"Off the land, me ass." The ghost of Pinkbeard flowed through a wall, snickering. "Living off the treasure, ye are!" Of course, Zuberi knew she was the only one that could see him, but her gaze followed the figure with a grimace on her face.
"You know... one of de worst things about having da windows open are the PESKY flies!" The ghostly figure sneered, and slipped out of the house through the wall. Oh yes.. -somebody- had said the wrong thing the other day. Wanna guess? He's invisible, and has a beard. And it's pink.

The swan bowed his head slightly at her comment. He had never really been one to have an easy time coping with lost loved ones. He was happy that he had been able to change the subject.
And it certainly was an interesting one. "A voodoo priestess?" He asked with a tilt of his head. "My goodness that must be quite the job. You must have an amazing understanding of magic to do something like that."
He enjoyed magic as much as the next person, he just never really focused on getting more for himself. He did figure out a spell that cured headaches, which was quite useful, but beyond that he stuck with the basics. And she lived off the land? Zuberi really was quite the woman. One of a kind. "You're quite the amazing person," he commented.
Eh? What about flies. He raised a feather eyebrow at the comment. He hadn't noticed any flies.

Now. That had meant more to her than -any- comment about her appearance. Zuberi actually paused when he'd said it, seeming genuinely flattered and surprised. She'd never thought of herself as -amazing-. It seemed like every time she'd went through her... leaps through life, it had been nearly -forced- upon her regardless of whether she'd wanted it or not. Had such things not happened to her, she might have been content to stay a five with only an animal form for the rest of her life. It had been arguably the preferred lifestyle.
But now that she was here... she couldn't imagine changing anything. No. She'd made too many friends, and experienced too many good things to be nullified by all the bad. Her surprised expression melted into a soft smile.
"Well. Thank you, Rosewood. I really appreciate that. People really don't tell me that enough, I guess. They always come about me house -needing- something." Ah.. but that sounded pitiful. She really didn't need to dote on such things.

Rosewood smiled. Good people were often under appreciated, or at the very least no one voiced how much they actually were appreciated. Words often failed when it came down to it.
And he could understand about people just coming to a person when they needed something. Strip clubs were like that, and he had chosen another profession where he was paid to hear about people's troubles.
"You're welcome, it's the truth." A small sigh escaped him as he continued. "People often fail to show appreciation, but just remember that there are people out there who do. You're such a nice woman I'm sure you have plenty of friends who don't only come to you for help."
Friends. Huh. That was something he hadn't thought about in a long time.
"Do pardon me if I'm overstepping any boundaries," He said after a moment. A slight blush was forming under his feathers. "I get carried away sometimes."
