Elias made his way uneasily down the corridors of the Court of Clubs. It had been a while since he'd been here, and he certainly didn't have fond memories of the room at the end of this passageway. Aderlass was different, though. He'd not only had the pleasure of meeting this Queen of Clubs, he'd done a huge service for the Queen. THE Queen. He wouldn't be recalling that favor now, though, he was hoping to make this on his own merits. He wondered idly if it was more often Jacks seeking advancement or Kings that came seeking positions in this Court. What had it been all those years ago? He couldn't rightly remember. Focus. Catalogue later, this requires focus, Elias. Rather than try and come in unassuming, he'd both shunned his ability to seamlessly blend in for the time being and assumed his 'taur form. The Queen Aderlass should know about both, but it would present an impressive display for anyone else who saw him in there. He wondered how long he'd be able to keep his spear, kukri, and pack. Those were for display and defense. He wasn't totally convinced that there weren't still assassins of Veldamir about. Maybe he should let that go. The former Queen had been dead for a while now. Focus. He reached the end and gave his name and purpose for visit to a rather wide-eyed attendant, and waited patiently to see if his appointment could still be kept, or if there was other pressing business pushing this visit to another time. Despite the fact that he'd met and conversed with The Queen of Clubs, he felt a bit nervous. Fear of rejection? Never bothered him before. He shoved the thought away until he could figure out what it was; it wasn't doing him any good. He hoped he'd find out what was going on soon.

The attendant looked up at the green ‘taur with wide eyes. He had seen lots of different things come through here, both those with appointments as well as those who were well without. After blinking a few moments he shook himself from his moment of shock to look down at his schedule book to see if the man did indeed have an appointment like he asked. “Elias, Canine of the Josiggy Marsh scheduled for an appointment at three this afternoon, correct? If you would just leave your things here, you will receive them on your way out, His Majesty is aware and awaiting your presence.” The canine said as he nodded to the door with his head. The mouse sat in human form behind his desk, anxiously awaiting his next appointment to knock on the door. When his attendant had told him that he would be having a meeting with Elias, Canine of the Josiggy Marsh, the Queen had become very interested in the days dealings. While he had been aware that Elias was thinking about going for a position in the Courts he had not truly been aware of when. It was going to prove an interesting meeting indeed.

The attendant saved himself from minor grandstanding on El’s part by finally speaking. His seeming indifference in his job made El want to make an example of him, though. “Give me your name.” He paused for dramatic effect but continued in explanation. “You’re taking responsibility for my personal effects, so I want to make sure I ask for the right person should anything happen to them.” He kept a level stare on the canine for the entirety of his speech. The speech indicated that the importance of the name might possibly extend beyond the importance of Elias’ belongings. He removed his satchel and set his spear and belt next to the door.
Elias walked confidently through the door, and bowed at the waist to Aderlass. “Your Majesty Aderlass, it’s an honor to be granted this audience.” He waited for recognition from the Queen before moving. Now would not be the time to get expelled from the meeting for a failure to follow proper protocol. Some research he’d conducted hinted that just that same thing had happened before. Knowing what he did about the mouse, Elias was pleased. The Queen of Clubs was establishing himself as a presence to be noticed immediately, and was willing to back up his decrees. He hadn’t heard of any corruption or unfair liberties being taken, which made his decision try and get a Court spot that much easier to make.
His whole scheme could still work after all.

The canine was taken aback a little at his name being demanded. Usually those who passed through here either considered him to be a no-one or they were too busy worrying about their own concerns to even take his. “Roger Farnsworth, sir.” The canine replied finally. “I will indeed be taking responsibility of your personal items. The Queen of Clubs sat at his desk mostly pretending to read over a document that had been submitted for his viewing earlier that morning. After being informed of his schedule for the day he had since been waiting for this appointment to begin. It was defiantly going to be an interesting one. “Ah, King Elias of the Josiggy Marsh, it is good to see you again.” The mouse greeted as the Marsh canine entered his office. After the formal greetings were exchanged he motioned towards the empty chair that sat across from his own desk, he had made sure to bring one in that would suit the not common ‘taur form as well as was possible. “So tell me, wot is it that you came to see me about?”

Elias straightened himself and moved to the chair, sitting as best he could. It wasn't a magically conjured chair such as the one Bernard had made for him, but it was a decently close second in comfort.
So, what to say? Obviously he couldn't go into the innermost workings of his plans, or even what his plans were. But, there were things he could do as a known King in a Court that he wouldn't be able to manage without a title. So that would come up. In his mind, what he wanted done with the Lowlands was just a more complicated way of him making the world better, so he'd say that.
He just wouldn't lead with it.
"Your Majesty, I'm here to ask whether there are any openings for Kings. If so, I would like to apply for one." Very straightforward, even for El.

The Queen could barely suppress a smile at the canine's words. They were just the words that he had been hoping to hear.
"Our numbers here at the Court of Clubs -as I think you are already aware- are quite low, and thus I am sure you are aware, there are quite a few openings available."
Due to their past history - both his helping out with the birthing of his son along with his helping in raising him - there was much that the Queen of Clubs owed to this man alone so the possibility of just giving the canine the title he wanted was very strong indeed. However, from past encounters as well he had the feeling that this man would put them to better use.
"If you are wanting to become one of my titled Kings then I shall have to have you complete a task for me."

Elias was pleased with the thought of proving himself. One of his concerns with merely calling in a favor to get a title was that he would in some ways appear to be a lesser King in the eyes of the Court if it seemed as though Ader was playing favorites. He would need the strongest possible stance he could get if he were going to gather the support and build the reputation he needed for his plans.
It was a short moment before he spoke, but after a time Elias nodded gravely. "The numbers in all of the Courts seem to have dwindled since I was last living with the general public. Given the number of Clubs period compared to the number of other Cards, the lack of Court members seems even more pronounced." He met Aderlass' eyes. "And as for proving myself, I wouldn't ask that it be any other way, Your Majesty. What would you have me do?"

The Queen was well pleased with the canine's response and his willingness to take on a task. It would do the mouse well to have this man in his Court.
Nodding his head slightly he tapped his fingers against a folder that sat on the top of his desk. Inside were various papers on certain people, as well as locations, that the canine would hopefully find of equal interest to the information that he had gathered in the past.
Sliding the folder over to the Josiggy Marsh he gave a smile. "Inside you will find some information on certain individuals - of whom you are probably already aware of your task is gather the missing information needed on each of them."
The mouse paused for effect as well as to receive acknowledgement that the canine was aware of what the mouse referred to.
"Once you have the information that is needed report back."

Elias read the file silently for a few moments, memorizing the contents. The file wouldn't leave this office, and it wouldn't be safe for the file to do so. Elias knew that he had the skills required to get much, if not all of the information Queen Aderlass required.
From what El had already learned, there weren't nearly as many Lowlanders planning on staging a revolution as he was claiming, but there were some. Of course, there were some from every region, but that was neither here nor there. Most didn't have as much to gain and as little to lose as the Lowlanders El had already spent some time researching. He recognized this task for what it was, however: official sanction to continue his investigation, with some protection, he assumed.
"I can do this. My only question is, if they attack me, am I allowed to kill them in self-defense?" If not, it could potentially make things harder, but if killing one simply meant he didn't get a title, he could live with that, and would just have to adjust his plans accordingly.

The Queen was quite, allowing Elias to consume the contents that was there for him in the file. When the folder was placed back on the desk he accepted it with a grin, before placing it back under the stack that it had been under previously.
"I am sincerely glad to hear that." And he was indeed glad to hear that Elias would be able to use this to his own benefit as well. At the canine's question he thought to himself for a moment before replying carefully.
"In the case that you are indeed attacked, you are allowed to do wotever it takes to make sure you survive. I only ask that you . . . some discretion. We do not need anyone becoming any the wiser on anything going on." He gave a nod, his tone showed that this was something the canine would not be new to.
The canine was left with no set time limit, though of course the mouse hoped that it would not take too long for the task to be finished. From everything he had seen in the past of the canine, The Queen was sure he had nothing to worry about. Giving a nod of his head again and a "I wish you much success," he dismissed the 'Taur to do with as he needed.
