“One would have hoped that it would have kept up its usual habit.” He gave a small sigh, as if the fact that the park’s inhabitants offended him, before pulling a wrapped bundle from the pouch at his side.
“Here you go. You better appreciate these blue-freckled mushrooms, they were a pain in the tail to get.” he made the comment pointedly as he handed them over to the canine receiving his payment in return. He was mostly giving her a hard time with his comment, though he meant it a little playfully. They had not really been that hard to gather, a few inquisitive questions in the right places and a little scampering about.
“So, wot else has brought you to the park. I would not take you as one to admire the sunshine and the pretty flowers.” He said the last in a tone dripping with sarcasm. He knew she hated those things just as much as he did, if not more.

When Minh had been woken up this morning to Mnem’s growling summons and drug unwillingly out the door before her sixth cup of coffee to go to the park of all things, she’d known something horrible was going to happen. A superstition which was even more firmly cemented in her mind after Mnem explained to Minh that she was being drug out into the light of day for dandelions. The day had been doomed from the very start.
Running into Aderlass was unexpected, considering how they’d last parted terms—but considering Mnem’s anal-retentive organizational skills it only made sense she would coincide her sudden need for dandelions with a drop-off. Funny; she never would have pegged Aderlass for a lackey.
Not that her mind was particularly focused on any of that at the moment, however—while Mnem and Aderlass talked shoppe she had scuttled belly first into the bushes after their young fugitive. Hiding from siblings, it would seem. Which wasn’t going to work very well if any of them had an even half-way-decent noise, but you had to leave a kid to his delusions.

Vertumnus had settled himself deep into the bushes, his teenage body barely being kept under cover from view, his antlers sticking out of the bushes slightly. Damn the antlers. He was about to make a run for it when he heard a noise to his left, though it didn't turn out to be Claudius like he had imagined, but one of the adults he had pleaded for help from. It seemed only this one listened...though she wasn't doing a very good job of helping him. Her large body would be painfully visible in the bushes...more so then his own...and what did an adult want with being in the bushes? He was sure Claudius and the others would catch on. He gave her a bit of a look, but decided not to be as rude as he could be. "Shhh...or they'll hear you....then they will never leave me alone!" he pleaded with her. Seemed Vertumnus would fit right in with the lynx's friends right now...if they could just get past the fact that he wasn't EXACTLY an adult yet. Still...he was a pretty big teenager.
Claudius had lost Vertumnus, but picked up the trail of another noise closeby. Maybe that was him! He headed towards the sound, unknowing that he was right, but that now Tumnus had company.
Aurelius smiled back when the fox did the same...happy to see her happy, though he wasn't quite sure why. But he became a little sad when he didn't get an answer to his question. He looked to his sister, who looked at him, then back to the fox. She read the writing upon the foxes body and hmmed. "I don't know if she can speak..." she said softly, looking to the fox to affirm her suspicions. Aurelius' ears drooped. How sad to never be able to speak! How rude of him to ask her questions she could not answer! "I'm sorry...how rude of me..." he tucked his tail between his legs and bowed his head a little. Indeed he had been very rude to his new friend. New friend indeed, he barely knew her! But this was the way with Aurelius. His relationships always seemed to be created fast...and were always with very strong emotions attached to them. Ilana worried that one day this would backfire, but for now...he had the excuse of being a child. Hopefully he would grow out of it. "Well, you are welcome to follow us if you like! Com'on Aurelius. I'm afraid we might have lost them." the look on her face betrayed her anxiety about getting lost more then her words. She started heading in the direction she thought her siblings went in, looking back now and again to make sure Aurelius and possibly the fox were following. Aurelius looked back up at the fox, striding over and nudging her a bit with the tip of his muzzle. "Come with us! It could be fun!" he smiled gayly at his possible new friend.

Well, as a matter of fact, Mnem had come there to admire the pretty flowers, in a fashion. Then pluck them and crush them and use the in tea, but that was hardly the point. She brushed off the comment about the relative difficulty of finding the mushrooms; it had become readily apparent early in their working relationship that Aderlass liked to needle, and that was fine with Mnem. A little camaraderie never hurt anyone. Well, mostly.
She took the mushrooms and gave the mouse is money. It should cover most of his rent for the month. Mnem hated parting with money as much as the next person, but the mushrooms were more than worth it--they were going to play quite a large role in her latest concoction.
"Thank you, Aderlass. Always a pleasure. All right, Minh, I just need to get my dandelions and--"
Minh was nowhere to be seen.
She was probably off cavorting with the...children.
"Damn it." She turned back to Aderlass. "Did you see where that girl went?"

“That girl? Oh, she went that way.” He pointed in the general direction, towards where the bushes were located. He had been snubbed by the feline and he did not like it. Not that he had any reason for her to acknowledge him, the wench, however he would not let his slighted feelings be shown or known. It did not suit him.
A blue green tip of her tail stuck out of the bushes, wagging back and forth every now and then. The feline truly was too big for this game of hide-and-seek that she seemed to be playing. “There she is.” He said, pointing out the obvious.
“Wot are you doing?” He asked loudly towards the hidden feline, his interest growing at what might be going through her head to cause her to do what she appeared to be doing. “You are aware that you are past the physical age for hide-and-seek, do you not?”

Shinrai’s ears flicked backwards as it seemed a whole crowd were descending upon his quite park. He sighed and glanced back over his shoulder, and suddenly his eyes narrowed sharply. He recognized that group of adults over there… he just REALLY didn’t want to. Blast it freakin’ all. He refused to be run off, however, and tried to think of the best way to go about it. He sidestepped slightly, ending up in some bushes. Was he hiding? He shouldn’t be hiding. He gave a low sigh as he debated wot he should do.
Kare looked from one deer to the next, blushing slightly at Ilana’s assumption; they –seemed- nice… But the pair leapt forward with the assessment before the violet fox could decide how to correct them. She tilted her head at Aurelius and gave him a small nod, though she certainly wouldn’t be –running- anywhere. She really hoped the pair wouldn’t end up hating her, as so often seemed to happen. She didn’t really have any friends other than Phyr; no one seemed to be willing to see beyond the oddness of the sisters.

Mnem turned her attention to the bushes, the location to which Aderlass was directing her; he had appeared offended by something that Minh either had or had not done. Oh, for the love of--it really was just like Minh to get herself involved in some kind of childish activity. She decided to let Aderlass let fly with the questions, then. She really didn't want to get any closer to the children than she had to.
Nasty little creatures, the lot of them. Noisy, messy, tiresome, meddlesome. Thoroughly convinced of their own cuteness and irresistibility as they did something immensely obnoxious. She was rather make a home full of packs of Minh's mutant banders than with a pack of ankle-biters.
Then she spotted something entertaining. Her dear old friend Shinrai, eying the children, before seeming to notice them and slip away into bushes, cowering like, well, a child. She wondered if he were the one in charge of this large passel of bite-sized miscreants.
If so, Mnem might actually have use for these children, which is not something she ever expected herself to think.
She approached the bushes carefully, curiously.

Vertumnus couldn't stand it any longer. He was getting really upset. All he was trying to do was stay away from those other younger children...and all he was getting in return were noisey adults that would blow his cover. Thats it...he was going to go off on them. With a growl he shout-whispered at the gathering crowd of adults. "Believe it or not I'm NOT playing hide and seek...these stupid illegidament siblings of mine wont leave me alone...and you all are blowing my cover!" said the young adolecent. With that he looked around, realizing with dismay that Claudius was approaching "Vertumnus! I know your around here somewhere!" he said as he was slowly getting to the area were all the adults were. That mouse was obviously talking to Vertumnus! He was a bit to big to be playing hide and seek, come to think of it. He was almost an adult! Vertumnus meanwhile nashed his teeth in anger at his predicament. He didn't want to play sitter to a bunch of children. Again he looked around, and finding an area he might be able to sift through and eventually find another hiding spot, he turned to the Lynx with parting words "Please distract them....for the love of all you hold dear!" then he scurried off through the bushes.
Claudius continued towards the adults, unknowing that Vertumnus had completely left only moments before. "Ah! Sorry to bother you! I'm looking for my brother...Vertumnus! He's an Avington deer whos a bit older then me.....have you seen him?" he said with bright eyes and a polite expression. His mother and step-father had taught him that politeness was always the best policy with strangers, and he would not be one to let them down.
Meanwhile Ilana was soon joined by Aurelius and his new friend, who Aurelius kept looking back at with a smile, to encourage her to follow. Now where did her siblings run off to. She saw a crowd of adults near the bushes...maybe one if not both of her siblings were over there? She wiggled her tail a bit and looked back at the both of them. "I think I might have found them!" and the group of them started heading in that general direction.

Assaulted. She was being attacked on all sides by the voices of children, so very many children. One of the females was approaching, claiming to have "found" something. One of the older ones was calling for help in dealing with the younger ones, and one of the younger ones was searching for the older one. Vertumnus? What kind of cruel parents named their child Vertumnus?
Well, perhaps the same kind of parents who named their child Mnemosyne. Vertumnus appeared to be in the stage of development where he loathed the antics of idiot children but did not seem to realize that he was still more or less one of them. Mnem attempted to bite back her rising ire. This was a terrible idea. There was no way she would be able to harness the collective annoying power of these brats to irritate Shinrai.
"I didn't think this through," she muttered to herself.

Mindful that they were currently practicing being one with the bush, Ming managed to keep quite for all of about five seconds. If she whispered, his siblings wouldn’t be able to hear them over the general din of voices, anyway.
“Vertumnus, eh? I’m Minh.” She carefully extended a paw in greeting, careful not to stir their protective covering of pokey green. The little buck seemed a little high-strung, and it wouldn’t do to upset him. Maybe she could earn his trust—she looked around for a possible ruse, when her eyes alighted on the shiny glint of a partially buried coin. Genius.
She gave him a wink, “Good luck hiding from your sibling.”
Shuffling backwards was a littler harder than she had expected, but she finally managed to extract herself from the bush, coin held high in triumph, “Hey, Mnem—look what I found it! Isn’t it shiny?”
She beamed.
