The Silver Swan was a quaint restaurant. It wasn't the best food in the world--that required too much money--but it was a nice establishment that people with a little extra money to spend went to. It was a busy night, one of the busiest in months. It was probably due the the upcoming Festival. Theofilus was flustered, to say the least, when he was informed by the hostess that they had no seating arrangement for him. "What do you mean?" he asked, at a complete loss. How was this possible? He came all this way for a good meal and... he was being turned away. "I'm sorry, we overbooked. There's nothing we can do sir. The shortest waiting time is two hours."Flustered and embarrassed were the tip of the iceberg. What was he supposed to do? Take his pride out the door and wander off to look for another meal or simply tell the young woman off? Nothing would solve the problem. He eyed all of the tables, filled with chattering people and happy faces, waiters and waitresses running around. It was a picture of perfect merriment, and Theofilus was not invited. Then again he had no companion to be merry with. The sparrow sighed and pushed up his glasses, "Very well then, I suppose I'll depart from your fine establishment."

Dymphna flipped idly through the menu, already knowing most of the dishes by heart. The Swan was one of her favorite restaurants to visit on Mondays, her one day off from the bustle of the palace. Here she could just sit back, relax, and let the mostly quiet and efficient staff cater to her dining whims. Many of them were just as harried as palace staff, but it was a different level of clientèle and fewer of them were ready to have nervous breakdowns in especially busy months such as this one.
She lowered her menu, choice made, and saw the Lakeland sparrow standing next to the hostess. Something sparked a memory and she cast her mind back to when she had last seen someone like him. Wasn't he... the Diamond Jack who had worked with His Majesty to acquire a new batch of koi for their little pond? She remembered him coming in a few weeks after the delivery to check on his customers' satisfaction with the transaction, which she had thought was rather professional of him. They talked for a little while before the sparrow had left, and she recalled him being a pleasant, dryly entertaining conversationalist. That may have just been his business persona, however. She honestly didn't know.
Close enough to the door to hear the word 'overbooked', she blinked and half-rose from her seat. Her own table had seats for two, and rather than let an acquaintance just walk away unsatisfied, she was outgoing and open enough to make an invitation. "Excuse me, Theofilus? Is that you? I'm not sure how well you remember me, but we met at the Heart palace several weeks back. Am I hearing correctly that the Swan mistakenly booked over your reservation?"

He was startled by the seemingly sudden appearance of the doe. How had he not noticed her before? That didn't matter, she had addressed him and his current issue. "Ah, yes, it's a pleasure to see you again, Dymphna," Theofilus said grinning. He walked over to her and presented her with a hand. At least this was a bright beacon after his disappointment. "Ladies should stay seated in greetings, no need to get on my account. But yes, they have overbooked and I'm without a place to have an enjoyable meal."
The sparrow couldn't help but wonder if the doe frequented the place. This was supposed to be his third time at the Swan, but fate wouldn't have it. He imagined Dymphna was here with someone else, why would such a lovely lady be eating alone? The sparrow smiled at her, "I should probably leave you to have your meal in peace."It never really occurred to him that she was on her day off, or would offer him a seat. He simply made assumptions. (OOC: the RP muse, she hates me! )

The doe shook his hand with a smile, pleased that she had apparently remembered his name correctly. It was always nice to meet an acquaintance from another Court in the capital, so long as their meeting had been pleasant, which was a category the sparrow certainly fell under. "That is an awful shame. I suppose it's due to the crowds arriving in droves for the Capital and its festivities. I know that most of the merchants have already begun to decorate their shops for the season and some of the traveling vendors have their carts parked just outside of the city."
His smile was quite charming for an avian. When she was younger, she'd had an awful time telling whether or not anyone with a beak was smiling. Time at the palace and learning peoples' expressions had quickly cured her of that ignorance. "I can't possibly let you just leave like that, Theofilus, not when you were so obviously expecting a meal. If it wouldn't bother you too much, why don't you sit with me? Company would be more than welcome. I haven't even placed my order yet and you can look at my menu. I've learned most of the dishes by now, anyway."

((Seeing how far back this is set, do you think we should close it and just say that a nice meal was had, they chatted, and ended up on fairly good terms?))
