"I'll just . .. uh look around while you pick up your supplies. I'm sure I can find something to hold my interest." Grinning he pushed his shoulder up against the shop door and led the way for the doe.
He walked briskly off to the side to start perusing the shop, hoping the shopkeep didn't necessarily notice him actually enter the building. Pravus padded quietly amongst the goods, his attention caught now and again by the occasional vial of something. . gruesome.
A small smirk graced his lips as he continued through the shelves of interesting things and at last he came to the window display. On a neck mannequin hung the necklace that had caught his attention in the first place. It glittered in the sun filtering through the dirty window and he stood captivated.
Looking around to see where the shopkeep was, he also tried to spot Ophelia. Waiting. . . for that perfect moment.

With a grin and a nod, Ophelia moved lightly into the shop and began to browse through the isles. Vials and jars, supplies and chemicals that were foreign to most but familiar to Ophelia filled a vast majority of the store but the rest was devoted to rare or unusual trinkets. Protection amulets, rings that give the wearer super strength... All sorts of items that Ophelia typically found unworthy of her interest.
She was a scientist after all and her forte was chemistry not superstition and magics. Yes, everyone had their own abilities and some had very unique ones as well, but rings embedded with power just didn't...well, intrigue her.
Instead she went straight to the counter, talking idly with the man there. He would assist her with some bags and a pair of hands as she lead him to the ingredients she needed to replace and discussed what items would be bought at the time and which ones she would return for at the end of the week. It was a bit more of an extended stay than she'd planned, but it worked.
When everything was at last gathered together, they would return to the cashier to hash out the rest of the deal. From time to time she would glance toward Pravus, curious of his actions but never once giving herself a long enough glance to make it seem like she were doing anything more than double checking for other items she might need. The boy wanted anonymity inside and she was fine with allowing it to him.

Pravus kept waiting, his eyes on the lookout for anybody. He saw Ophelia go up to the counter and begin a conversation with the shopkeep. His paws crept closer to the window display, keeping out of sight but getting close enough that he could make a quick move. And then it happened, Ophelia had asked for help and the keep had turned around putting his back to the store.
Deftly he hopped up onto the platform with the mannequins. A single unsheathed claw slipped under the chain and quietly and quickly lifted it off the fake neck display. With no other way to hide or carry the piece of jewelery he quickly put it in his mouth. His tongue slid over the smoothness of the pendant and he almost enjoyed the sharp metal taste of the chain itself.
He padded quietly over to Ophelia as she paid and smiled up at her innocently. Er well. . . what he thought was innocently. "Odd place. Got everything you need? Shall we go?" Pravus was pleased at the lack of hindrance to his voice. He'd be surprised if anyone could tell there was anything different with his mouth or voice at all.
He slunk over to the door and opened it for Ophelia. "After you."

When Pravus at last returned to her side, Ophelia was just finishing up arrangements with the teller. The charismatic Corvistowner had worked out a far more convenient use of her coin than to simply purchase his materials and tote them back. With an extra fee (which she'd be able to work up by the end of the week as already agreed) she'd be able to have them conveniently shipped to her home in Corvistowne. Perfect.
It also ensured that she didn't have any more mishaps that might cost her an extra extension to her already elongated stay.
His innocent smile almost brought a lift to her brown, but instead she smiled with what could have been tainted ignorance and strode toward the door after saying her farewells to the shop owner. "Yes, very odd." Ophelia agreed as she momentarily eyed those specialized 'trinkets'; intrigued but skeptical. "However, his shoppe always has what I need compared to the more conventional stores in the heart of town."
It would not be until they stepped out of the shop that Ophelia would tilt her head toward him, a sly smile appearing upon her features. The chemist was far too observant for anyone's good.
"Did you find all that you were looking for as well, Pravus?"
In case Pravus truly had done something to warrant them trouble and it was not just in her imagination, Ophelia did not slow once they left the unusual little shop but instead kept on through the alley.

As Pravus smiled innocently he noticed the odd smile back from Ophelia, though no quick shock of fear of discovery followed. He was far too used to odd looks, accusatory or not to have anyone's suspicion's scare him anymore. Besides, even when they had proof he'd always found a way to weasel out before.
Pravus grinned at the doe "And of course those more conventional stores are just boring. Same gemstones this, same lotions that. They never have have anything /real/, just marketable fake stuff."
Lleurela had been a fairly good caretaker, allowing the boy enough freedom that he only caused a little trouble. She seemed to know that with too many restraints he'd only grow bolder in his lawless pursuits.
He shrugged away the thought of her and mimicked Ophelia's sly smile.
"Oh there was some interesting stuff. . . Nothing I would buy though. . ."
The small cat padded forwards, grateful for Ophelia's path towards the alley. Did she know? Of course she did, he berated himself, but unlike so many others she seemed to leave him alone about it. Of course. .
His thoughts were cut off quickly as too lost in thought he tripped over some garbage once they were halfway down the alley. Pravus pitched forwards, head bounding into the ground. It didn't hurt really but he came up eyes watering... The necklace was lodged halfway down his throat. After a few scary moments of choking and hiccuping it finally spilled forwards. Proof of his misdeeds, all pretty and sparkly on the ground in front of him.
Slowly. . . he looked up at Ophelia.
"Um. Heh?"

Ophelia wasn't his mother, wasn't going to act like it either. If Pravus caused trouble, than so be it. So long as she didn't get caught up in the mix. Nevertheless, Ophelia would soon have the proof she needed regardless if the cub 'spilled the beans' or not. Abruptly the cub stumbled, too distracted by his thoughts to watch his paws...and, of course, he quickly paid for it. Within seconds of the stumble he was gagging on the jewel he'd stolen and Ophelia couldn't help but muse that he'd gotten an amusing little bit of karma for that misdeed.
"Nothing at all... Of course." Laughing heartily, the unusual female merely shook her head and nodded toward the trinket. "Quite a shiny piece of nothing, I've got to say. I imagine this was what fueled your desire to come inside with me?"
Ophelia knew she possibly should've forced him to go back, to return the amulet, but what could she do? Ah well, the boy would do as he pleased.
"Come on, gather your prize. We need to keep walking before the storekeep realizes his amulet's gone."

Pravus deftly nosed at the necklace getting it over his muzzle. With a quick jerk he threw his head back and it slid fairly ungracefully over his head and around his neck. Thank goodness for long chains. The silver chain glittered and peeked amongst the young cats fur and the red gem blended into his patterning quite well.
He looked up at Ophelia with a sly smile. "Partly. . . wanted to see what else they had as well. . Did you see that THING floating in the jar down the 2nd isle? What the hell was that!?" He asked as a change of subject as he started hurrying down the alleyway further to put more distance between him and the shop.
".. I hope you're not too good of friends with him." He frowned down at the necklace before smiling mischievously back up at Ophelia, one elegant brow lifted in amusement. "Wouldn't do for word to get back to him about his unfortunate loss is all. If you know what I mean? Wouldn't do at all."
He padded along in silence for awhile, chancing the occasional glance up at Ophelia. . Where to go now? Pravus watched his feet as he pondered his question, chewing the inside of his cheek raw as he did so. He buried his nose into his chest and grabbed the pendant in his mouth, sucking on it thoughtfully as they kept moving.
He let it drop from his mouth to ask what for him was a rather meek question of Ophelia. "Do. . you have anything else to do around the city?"

After watching Pravus slide the necklace on, Ophelia had to admit it really did suit him quite well. She would just keep quiet and allow him to enjoy his prize.
As Pravus changed the subject, Ophelia followed him along on the new topic; laughing aloud as they continued to walk. "I did! I'm not quite sure but I believe it was a piece of something!" Her laughter rose again, but tapered lightly this time. "I am not good friends with him, no...but even if I were, I would not relate this to him. After all, if I had that intention, I would've taken us back the moment you coughed it out."
When the boy spoke up after that long trot of thoughtful silence, Ophelia found herself grinning in sardonic amusement. Ah, Pravus was definitely fun...but he was also wonderful company. She would be glad to have him accompany her. Only, this time he actually had to keep his sticky paws to himself.
"Would it be," the Corvistownian teased lightly "that you have anywhere else you intend to pilfer anything from?"

Pravus watched her closely as she answered his question but saw no hint of lie in her voice or face. He nodded to himself. . . good enough then.
"Thank you." Ohh woah now. Thank you? Pravus blinked at himself rapidly as he realized the words that had just come from his own mouth.
Never before had he said thank you to anyone or anything and yet here he was.
But then again, no one before had ever earned his trust or his appreciation. Perhaps the way to control Pravus was to not control him all? The last thought didn't consciously really register but was there nonetheless.
Pravus panted laughter before grinning up at Ophelia. "Now whatever would make you think I would want to 'pilfer' anything!? I simply save people from possessions they don't need. . hehe." He took a moment to grin before rolling his eyes a little "Okay, no. I'm not actually looking to acquire anything else at the moment." But I don't want to go home. The unspoken words hung heavier on the air than the rest of them combined.
