Ophelia blinked slightly at the thanks she received, but she dipped her head slowly and beamed into a smile once more. Pravus really was a charming soul, only he didn't appear to know it quite yet.
"It's no problem at all, Pravus. It is what friends do, is it not?"
From just the look on his face she could assume that his words were not only genuine, but quite unlike him. She appreciated them more than she would say out loud.
"Then I'm sure we can finish up my errands together. I have an old friend to visit...for a bit of a favor; and while his shop isn't nearly as interesting as the last one, he does owe me some money as a bit of a favor." The lovely doe had picked up her pace again, walking as she explained the situation. She could tell he didn't want to part ways quite yet, and to be honest she was truly enjoying his company. She didn't want to part ways either. "Perhaps if you do find something worth acquiring, I could get him to add it in as well. He's got a soft spot for kids that turns him to butter about that sort of thing."

He muzzle twitched a little. In all honesty he didn't really know what friends did, not having had one before. There were people he could stand, and those he couldn't. Pravus shrugged gaelically in a way that meant everything and nothing and didn't respond to the question, not wanting to let on to what he was thinking.
What is a friend?
He began to smile before putting a few walls back up. He was becoming weak around Ophelia and it felt odd. His smile morphed into his usual smirk as he looked up at her.
"Well then lead on fair lady." He snickered but sobered a little as if in apology. He hadn't meant it to sound as if he was being sarcastic. . Wait! grah. . what was happening to him. Pravus glanced a look around the street before hunching his shoulders a little and continuing on.
Though as she offered to get him something of his choosing he stood up straighter and looked at her dead in the eyes. He. . couldn't accept something like that. Though, she softened it at the end, adding in that it would take some manipulation on his part as well.
"Maybe." Is all he said noncommittally.

There was something about Pravus's actions which left Ophelia smiling as she walked. A part of her couldn't help but notice how awkward and conflicted he seemed...and the other part of her was enjoying it. It felt good to be what must have been his first friend (or what she assumed to be his first friend).
Taking his snicker without insult, she playfully bowed her head back and picked up her pace a little more once again. It wouldn't be far, but the brisk walk was refreshing.
"Do you live here in the city, Pravus?"
The curiousity was perhaps unneeded, but Ophelia felt the urge to know more about her little friend. He was undeniably of Highlander heritage but she somewhat expected that a Highlander of such high and proud rank would have far more protective parents than to allow him to wander as he was. Of course, even adoptive parents must've been proud. 10s were the favorite rank amoung card families that didn't themselves have Face Card status.
So where was Pravus's beaming mom and/or dad?

Pravus nodded a little "Yeah, I live with my caretaker in a hut of a house" He rolled his eyes a little "I suppose it's all she can afford, but really the lease is up at the end of the month and all she does is sit around all day and play music. Though the Queen of Hearts did commission an instrument for her. . "
Pravus looked up at Ophelia for a minute as they walked then looked away. His eyes darting amongst the buildings, looking in windows, window shopping in a way >.> hehe
"I don't know, I just don't like her. . she's too nice. You know? Smothering, always offering to buy me stuff." His voice sounded disgusted.
"I think she's just sort of given up and lets me wander now eheh. She really has no choice." He laughed out loud at this, rather proud of how he always seemed to be able to sneak by her and her little chipmunk senses. Pravus saw it as a game really. It wasn't really as fun going out when nobody tried to stop him anymore though :/
"How about you? I'm guessing you live in Corvistowne, you seem to intelligent to live here."

Ophelia listened attentively as Pravus spoke, silently fascinated by the youth's words. So he did live here, but definitely not with his parents. One typically didn't refer to their mother or father as their 'caretaker'. Adopted was more likely.
"His Majesty himself, hm? Your caretaker must be pretty important, or very lucky, to win the favor of the Queen of Hearts. From the sounds of it she's a Musician, does she play for his Court?" Following his eyes from window to window, Ophelia nodded a little and laughed softly. What an odd child he was! And yet, Ophelia couldn't help but enjoy it. "Too nice? That's not a complaint I hear often about parents. Though I could understand how it'd be rather smothering."
Laughing with him, the Corvistownian nodded her head and nudged him lightly with her long tail. He was a wonderful kid, even with his mischievous side. One just had to learn how to get along with him, that was all.
"Yeah, I live in Corvistowne. There's just far too much politics here, it's not my style."
There were too many memories here as well, but those would be left for another tale. Ophelia had a strict policy on leaving what was long dead and buried where it belonged to stay.

He shrugged a little, not honestly too sure of what Lleurela did. .. . Pravus had never really payed attention >.>
"She was playing in his gardens oneday and he overheard her. Apparently the music soothed his headache and he commissioned her a custom instrument." Shrug. That's all he knew really even though she had gone over it in detail over and over again in her excitement. A flash of red shot through his memory suddenly and he almost tripped again.
He shook his head. . what. . .was that? Already the memory was beginning to be blocked out by his mind. Wouldn't do, wouldn't do, to be afraid his whole life.
He woke from his quick reverie when she nudged him and he smirked. "Heh. Yeah didn't peg you as the court type at all. Though myself" He performed a low courtly bow, bending one leg under his chest as his nose touched the ground. "Well. . . I have some plans for myself."
"I don't know how quickly I want to try my Jack Quest though . . I heard they're . . taxing." He thought for a second, wondering what the quests were like. Surely the stories he had heard couldn't be true.
"You and I would make a good team you know." Well. . . that was vague.

As she had all along, Ophelia continued to study her new friend and his ever-quirky ways. The boy was snarky at best, but somewhere in all of his careless words and offhanded actions, there was something more. Beneath the surface of his outer shell, there was a conniving soul and a rather dangerous Highlander. Yet, not even that could sum everything up. The layers to this boy were unending.
That falter only reassured it to Ophelia.
She didn't press the stumble nor the lack of knowledge about a topic which must've left his caretaker overjoyed; very few were given customized instruments from the Queen of Hearts. With her father's seat of power as it was, Ophelia knew this well.
"Oh yes, I could definitely see you upon a throne within those gilded palaces. In fact, I couldn't imagine any less for you." While Ophelia would not admit it allowed, she herself was well acquainted with those very halls. They were definitely suited to Pravus and she would be happy to see him among the greatest one day, for she knew he'd make it in due time, but they were not, and never had been, a home to her. "I've a few acquaintances in the courts and they've all related that the court quests are quite taxing. I wouldn't rush myself into them, to be honest."
His final comment caught her off guard, causing the deer to pause for a moment before picking up again with a curious little tilt to her head. A good team huh? "How so?" She questioned aloud, her yellow-green eyes shining with interest and her face alight with a playful smile.

He nodded at her wisdom. Pravus could tell that Ophelia spoke the truth about the trials once you were in the mighty halls of the court. In fact, from what he remembered as a child inside that basket, the Queen of Hearts was. . not to be discounted. A temper and strength to match, made him hard to dismiss indeed.
Though the more he talked to his new friend Ophelia, the more Pravus realized that Queen wasn't what he aspired to be. No, a personal servant to the Queen in lowly tasks also wasn't fitting. But. . yet there must be a position for. . hunters. >.> Surely the Queen didn't do ALL his dirty work on his own, though no one could refuse that he would without thought.
He grinned at the deer as she asked what he meant. "Well brawns and brains, it's a traditional matchup don't you think? You need some. . . underhanded deals smoothed out I'm there. I need advice on court politics," at this he rolled his eyes and his voice went drawl, "and you help me. I scratch your back you mine. Beneficial really."

The trials of the courts were nothing new to her. Her parents had both been Spades, her father a King and her mother a 10 raising up to Jack. Her father had luckily never had to endure the trials of a King's Quest thanks to having been born in that lofty position, but her mother had told her everything of her Jack Quest once she was old enough to be interested. When Ophelia had left, her father had even accused her of being afraid to face the trials.
That, to Ophelia, had warranted quite the laugh. Ophelia was not afraid, no...she'd been disgusted. The court life. It all seemed so fake to her and, to think, that she had already become so very close to someone who intended to pursue Queendom. It was ironic truly, clearly ironic.
"I must admit, in those regards...we really would make a wonderful team." The Corvistownian grinned roguishly as she found the shop she was looking for appearing in the distance. Almost there. "All right then: I scratch yours, you scratch mine and we both win."
As she finished speaking, Ophelia motioned at the shop they were approaching with a light jerk of her head. "We're almost there, Pravus. The little one over there, with the tinted windows." Even from a distance it was an eccentric little shop but Ophelia never failed to find what she needed there.
