Oh, hell yes he knew what was being served! What growing teenage boy didn't make it a point to know what he was going to shove in his face next?
OH! And she was giving him the HONOR of being her little slave! He could feel his heart flutter in delight. He walked slightly behind her, watching her backide as she walked.
"C-could I? I'd love to grab you something!" he yipped in excitement, quickening his pace to be by her side, "Where will you be for me to bring it?" Please say your room,[/b] his mind screamed. He was looking up at her with absolute attention. So very, very pretty she was....
She was also a Canine, just like him! He knew what would make her happy when he went to get food for her.

Oh, and wasn't he just so eager to do her bidding. Lani smirked, pleased that she wouldn't have to tussle with the cooks herself to get some tasty tidbits - that one got right ornery when royals just came into the kitchens rather than going through the lengthy process of ringing for service and requesting food. She looked down and caught sight of the attention.
What a perfect audience. She stopped and crossed her arms, striking a thoughtful pose. "Well, yes, I suppose you could. If you're going to be so very kind as to save me the trouble of making the journey myself, I suppose you can bring it up to my room, if you know where it is. That's where I was going to take it anyway." With a little while, she'd be more likely to entertain herself in her quarters than outside, especially since the day was humid and making her hair frizz a little bit. She needed to put something on it to stop that quickly.
"I suppose I'll see you there, then!" she called out in a singsong voice, then headed back to her room. As soon as he was out of sight, she wouldn't be able to stop the snickers. Teenagers. They were so immature and easy!

Hadrian could feel his heart beat a little faster.
"N-no I don't remember exactly where your room is, remind me, please?" he asked. As soon as he got the directions, he nodded in a slight bow, "K! I'll see you there! I will totally see you there!" he yipped happily and bounded off. He knew she was enjoying manipulating him. Her posture, everything, told him this, but he didn't care. He would get her exactly what she wanted and the right portion size and he would impress her! And, in a way, he enjoyed the attention from her, too.
Soon he was at the kitchens.
Hookay.
Deep breath, now.
There were few things he hated more than a good half of the servant staff of the Hearts Courts seemed to enjoy making him miserable... granted ever since teen angst hit and he'd begun retaliating with teeth and claws against the worst of his harassers...
Suddenly throwing himself into evil's lair didn't seem like such a good idea.
Sighing, knowing that to turn back know would only disappoint Lani (and the more time he took, the less likely he would impress her!) he pressed forward and knocked at the kitchen door.

A curious head poked out the kitchen door to see who had knocked, the man a Morganberry equine of relatively low rank. He'd achieved his bipedal form so that he could get a job much more easily, but didn't have the ambition required for real upward mobility. He looked down at the canine with a dubious expression, then just shrugged and opened the door for him before going back to his station and continuing with dinner prep. Not his problem.
The kitchens were a mob scene at present, with only about an hour before dinner. Everything was reaching the critical point. Knives flew across cutting boards, flames crackled and danced beneath pans, and over it all was a cacophony of voices. Horace was the head cook presently on duty and for a pigeon, he had a surprisingly loud voice when he needed to be heard. Betsy was also in the kitchen, off to the side, stirring something in a large bowl. She wasn't technically kitchen staff, but she had come down to see how her snugglybear was doing and had become inadvertently involved in the process.

Hadrian looked in awe for a second then immediately got out of the way of the organized chaos. Smiling and wagging his tail he wove his way through the rushing servants over to Betsy. What was she doing here? Hadrian could've sworn she was cleaning staff... but hey, this was obviously meant to be! Here was a friend of his (well, former babysitter... but who was really nice!) and she could help him! He was a little intimidated by the hustle and bustle and certainly didn't want the kitchen staff to be upset with him.
"Hi Betsy!" he said as he rubbed the top of his head against her side. As he looked back up at her, his blue mohawk sprung proudly back into place. "What are you doing in here? I thought you were cleaning staff?" He let his tail wag freely. Eyes that were once yellow, but now were darkening as he aged lit up. He always enjoyed Betsy's company. Even if she just thought of him as a kid, she still treated well. At the very least, she had a more motherly vibe than his own mother who just had a... weird aura.

The servants dodged around the large teenaged canine as he made his way across the kitchen, giving him a few curious looks but otherwise more occupied with their own individual tasks to pay him any mind unless he started to be a nuisance. Betsy looked down as a voice called out to her, tail flicking in surprise and then pleasure when she felt the head-rub.
"Hadrian!" she laughed, reaching down a furred hand to run along the top of his ever-growing Solandrian mohawk. He was such a cute boy, especially growing like a colt as he was. If his paws were any hint, he would grow into quite the large boy, just like his father. She'd babysat the boy and his sister more than a few times throughout the course of their life, whenever their mother wanted a bit of freedom and didn't feel like cleaning up their messes afterwards. She enjoyed the pair of them, so it was never too much of a chore unless Hadrian accidentally got into the gardens. He'd been such a digger a few years back...
"Oh, I'm just helping my darling husband get everything ready for dinner. I finished work early today and..." her voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper, feline muzzle grinning, "...when I help out, I get tidbits from the roasts. Shh." She laughed and resumed her stirring, the Selkie fluff of her arms restrained by a tie around her wrists. "So what are you doing in the kitchens? Hoping for the same? I must warn you not to just grab, which I'm sure you already know. You might end up losing a toe or two if anyone catches you reaching into things." This waw said with an even wider grin.

He allowed his tail to wag as he leaned into the friendly touch, allowing the thick blue fur to be ruffled slightly. Such a nice lady.
Hm... tidbits, huh? He assumed he wouldn't be able to sneak enough for both Lani AND him, but might as well try, right?
"Weell~" he started. The boy still hadn't quite lost his mischievous streak, "I was actually hoping to sneak out enough for a dinner..." he hesitated slightly, but remembering Betsy's good nature, the worst he'd get was a verbal 'no' (and she would be nice about it, too) "For two?" Then again, now that he thought about it (WHAT?! Hadrian? Thinking?!) Lani never actually said he was invited to eat with her explicitly... well, here's to hoping. His ears twitched back and his tail lowered slightly as his face made a somewhat bashful expression.
"If that's too much, I could make do with just one," he could go hungry... maybe she'd even take pity on him and share... or... other things... he tried not to let his expression falter as his mind went off into wishful thinking. He still used those lessons he'd received from Mo, but slightly modified now. Overdoing it at an older age was not as endearing.

Fluffy eyebrows slowly rose as Betsy regarded the boy with a speculative expression. A dinner for two? That sounded almost like a date... and he certainly was the right age to be interested... She remembered how difficult it had been to arrange things behind her mother's back, long ago. The woman had never really 'approved' of Horace, but then, Betsy had never much approved of her mother either. She'd barely mourned the woman's passing. At least she'd been a better mother to her own children, and by default, this boy fell under the 'adopted child' category in a way.
"Wee~eell," she drawled teasingly, leaning in closer, "I would feel awfully bad if I stood in the way of a young man's romantic pursuits. I suppose... hmm. Give me just a moment." She stepped back and set the bowl down on the counter, catching one of her husband's arms mid-turn and swinging him close to whisper something in his ear. Watching an overweight pigeon with a comb-over spin on his bird-leg heel was nothing if not hilarious and several of the staff who'd been following his direction snickered behind a hand or wing.
Ruffling her paw up the feathers of his arm, she smiled expectantly. Reminding him of their first date 'out' would probably work, especially since he was busy and didn't have much time to talk. She didn't mind a bit of meddling when she felt it was called for.
A moment later, he went back to what he'd been doing and she turned to Hadrian with a wink. "Give me just a moment to nab you a tray."

Hadrian lit up as soon as the words escaped her. Betsy, what a wonderful woman she was! He would have to find a way to pay her back after this! He licked her nose before she had a chance to pull away and managed to squeak out a "Thank you!" with just a hint of voice crack. He watched in amusement as the overweight Pigeon was grabbed and spun.
Hadrian bounced a few times in excitement when Betsy promised a tray. He was so excited! He kind of hopedsome form of transport would be provided to compensate for his lack of hands, like a cart or something. However, considering how much she was doing for him so far, he didn't want to push...
He waited excitedly for Betsy to come back to him with the food. He paced in a small area, staying out of the way of irascible Hearts, tail wagging like mad until she came back.
