Iphis was quite hard at work on a new project, sequestered in his room, which granted him about as much privacy as he was likely to get. At least none of his siblings were around to hijack his creations and use them for their own nefarious ends. Giving Helena pretty things to dress up in and play around in tended to keep her more or less occupied (unless she was feeling especially needy, in which case he was doomed), but his more destructive siblings were more prone to just grab things and rip them to bits. Iphis chose to take this as rather unsubtle criticism that his work was not quite up to par. He appreciated their imput, even if he disapproved of their methods. And there. He added the final bits of lace and ribbon to the dresses he was going to give his brothers. Daddy was supposed to be bringing them by soon, so they could spend Quality Time with Mommy (there were in for disappointment; Mommy had her book and her booze was not likely to come down from her rooftop greenhouse soon), and Iphis wanted to give them presents. He brushed off the dresses gently. The second one, delicate lavender silk and tulle tressed with soft ribbon accents, looked kind of weird because the shape had to be designed around the fact that Se had enormous wings, but he was still happy with the result. He grabbed the outfits and headed downstairs. He hoped they liked their gifts.

Mommy was displeased. Mommy was often displeased these days, but, amazingly, more often than not, it wasn't directed at his children. This was a new occurrence since he'd become The Queen of Hearts, and Ira was rather saddened to have lost so much of his dear Mommy's attention. Still, today had definitely made up for it. Today, both Ira -and- Se had managed to attain the rank of Jack. Mommy was so very displeased, the little Josiggy equine could only snort in amusement as he remember their dear, Queen Mother's expression when the pair of them had walked in. On the one hand, pride; two of his sons had moved up to Jack ranking before they'd grown. It was better than how he'd managed. On the other hand, displeasure mixed with some fear; their wonderful Mother did not quite trust them enough to let them run rampant in the Courts, especially not with any vestige of power. Ira couldn't wait until he was old enough to be an official thorn in Mommy dearest's side.

Se was grumping. Rai had been dubious of his new ranking and the look on that man's face! The hybrid growled under his breath, plotting new and more terrible ways to kill his 'darling father'. He was imagining a violent slaughter involving fire ants and other stinging creatures as Rai waved good-bye to his sons and headed back towards the Palace. Ira waved his tail cheerily, but Se flipped off his father's broad back. That was one definite bonus to paws over hooves. Rai very rarely stayed anywhere other than the Palace now; when he left it, he kept himself swathed in coats, cloaks, or other disguises. Wot a load of bull! Rai was a waste of space and power. When Se became stronger, he was going to show his father something really impressive. Stupid pispard.

The vicious pounding at the door heralded their arrival. Iphis set the garments down on the couch and unlocked the door. Iphis had locked it himself earlier; Mommy never latched it before disappearing. She liked to leave it open to allow thieves "easy access" to undesirable things. Iphis had tried telling her that she should just have a garage sale or something, but Mommy had just kicked back some wine, laughed, and vanished.
He smiled widely at his brothers. It had been a while since their last visit. Se looked unhappy and hostile, as was typical, but he would cheer up soon. Ira looked more or less as deranged as usual.
"Hey!" he said. He considered hugging them. He refrained. Hug time later; not-getting-killed-time now. "I've missed you two. Come on in. Mommy will be down later to shower you with motherly love. I think. I made you presents!"

Who the snot would lock them out-- oh, yes. Cute little, off Iphis. Ira affectionately clouted the albino in the shoulder. "It hasn't been that long," their eldest brother said easily as he trotted into the room and looked around. Wow, it looked just like it always did! It was nice to know that some things never changed and that he could still hide the bodies here with no one being the wiser. Ah, yes, it was good to be at their other home.
He turned to look at the white hybrid as Iphis explained dear Daddy's disappearance. Hardly surprising, but it would definitely add to the excitement later! Father, he knew, would be pleased to discover that he was one step closer to being an official bother to Mommy. Daddy always did love it when he clung to Mother.
"Presents? Really. . ." Ira's teal ears came forward in bemused interest.

"I swear, I hate this family," Se snarled under his breath as Iphis FINALLY let them back into their own #*$$@(*$% house. "Why'd you lock us out?" he snarled viciously at the albino, ignoring Ira to try and storm past the other two boys. He didn't want to be here, didn't want to see his deranged mother or equally idiotic siblings. It was bad enough that Ira refused to give him more than a few moments peace-- no matter that Se wasn't always entirely certain who was still alive anymore-- but to be hounded by the rest of his family? It was ridiculous!
Some deep, hidden part of himself, however, was relieved by Ira's refusal to go too far from him. Ira, he knew, could not be dead. He was too much of a pain in the tail to not still be among the living. Blast it all.
Maybe. . . the winged hybrid hesitated to send Iphis a suddenly calculating glance. Maybe Iphis was dead. That had promise.

He got out a few words about burglars and kidnappers and psychotic little girls peddling cookies before giving up. Se likely did not care about explanations. He just wanted to be grumpy about something. And when Se wanted to be grumpy--which was apparently all the time--he found something to be grumpy about. Iphis wondered if it hurt the brain to be so unpleasant all the time. But there was no point in letting his brother's negativity get to him.
"Oh yes, presents," he said cheerily, grabbing the dresses and brandishing them with a flourish. Lace ruffled. Ribbons fluttered. Little sparkly accents sparkled. He smiled proudly. "I've been working on them for weeks." He had made a yellow one, too, for Helena; it wasn't quite as pretty as these two, because he had thrown it together hurriedly to get Helena to go away, but she had nearly squeezed the life out of him anyway. "The cream-colored one is for you, Ira, and the lavender one is yours, Se."

Ira stared at the dresses for several long moments. HEE. Whether or not wearing a dress had ever held any particular pull for him, seeing Se in one would make everything worthwhile. Though, of course, he would certainly be the best looking of the bunch; there was no doubt about that.
"Iphis, these are amazing!" the cannibalistic colt fairly gushed. "Look at the craftsmanship! The detail!" He sent a strange, glittering smile at the other hybrid. "Please tell me you have one as well!" Oh, ho, ho! If only he could get Mommy back for this one! He'd have a fit of happiness. Mommy always liked it when they played well together and got along 'nice'. Mommy had some serious issues.
The Josiggy Marsh child turn to eyeball Se darkly, though that same grin was still plastered across his smug face. "Se, this lavender will go lovely with your fur and eyes."

Se certainly was not listening when Iphis tried to explain; he didn't listen to pretty much any of wot his siblings said to him. Or their parents. Or, really, anyone besides Xylia and Ira. Though he wouldn't let the other colt know that.
Even the word 'presents' held no longing or desire for the boy and when the albino mix pulled out the dresses, a look of distinct shock and hate covered Se's features. Exactly wot kind of crack had Mnem been giving the boy that he expected either of the Jacks to want or even put up with the idea of being given girl's clothes?!
And then. . . Ira. Crazy, strange Ira. Se stared at his brother for one long minute before exploding into a fit of cursing, insults, and rage.
"You're both on bloody crack! No normal boy would EVER WEAR A *#($ing dress and you're just encouraging his idiotic *@##( tendencies! I can't BELIEVE YOU--" his diatribe continued on at length, detailing Ira's deficiencies, swiftly jumping to all the things wrong with Iphis, then proceeded to blame their parents for EXISTING, much less procreating. "*#$* that!"

After about the fifth insult related to his appearance, intelligence, sexual preferences, and hobbies, Iphis tuned Se out completely. It was really the only way to deal with his outbursts other than bursting into tears and running away, and Iphis wanted to see them in their pretty dresses, so weeping and fleeing was out.
Se's vitriol muddled itself into buzzing static, and Iphis waited out his ranting for a few minutes before announcing that all Se needed was a cup of Mommy's Special Sleepy-Time Tea. It was what Vishne got when he started being whiny and what Helena got when she started being creepy.
At least Ira liked the dresses. His big brother could be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but he was really a sweetheart deep down. Especially when placed next to Eir and Se, in which case he looked like a saint.
"You should try them on!" he suggested. "I can make adjustments if they don't fit quite right. Then we can show Mommy!"
