...and now she had to sleep in it

As she walked home, Dilis thought. She thought about all the events of the day and the new little friend she had made. He was shy and cute and terribly underweight. Of course, anyone with a brain could see it was his bindings that did it to him, she just didn't understand why he kept them on in that instance but of course, she wasn't from Torquehelm so she wouldn't know his history. She thought she loved him, not a romantic love but the kind you would feel for a family member. He was so helpless, she wanted to look after him always but she knew it wasn't ladylike at all, men were supposed to take care of women and not the other way around.

He had walked her to the edge of Avington and left because she was terribly afraid Father would find out. He was a picture of propriety and he would not have his only daughter gallivanting with a male alone, it was simply unheard of. She had to accept that she suppose but it made her sad as well because she wanted to be able to have friends and bring them home to meet father. Seki was terribly nice and he would never do any of the things Father claimed he was capable of. When she was younger she tried to bring a little torque feline home but as soon as Father realized, he had promptly tossed him out on his ear yelling to never come back. Ever since that point, the children in Avington teased her and she gave up home of ever having friends. Seki, however, knew nothing of her past so he hadn't left her yet.... he was her friend...

Friend. She craved so much to be able to call him that but she was afraid that as soon as she did, he would disappear from her life. He would become a ghost of what she once had and she would be alone again. It was odd, Dilis and her father were well off but he never deigned to get her a nanny, an approved person she could talk to during the day.. she never understood why. They had the money to pay for it, so why hadn't Father done this one thing for her? Ah well, she guessed she would never understand her father.

She was almost home, she had to stop daydreaming before Father noticed. He called them foolish notions made up so fools wouldn't feel bad about their lives. As she neared the door, it opened itself as she was about to.

"You are late, girl. Where have you been?" She knew that booming voice anywhere, and she knew she was in a lot of trouble.


"I-I am sorry, I was going to Capital City and I decided to go a new way and I got a bit lost. I asked for directions though and got myself where I needed to be..." Dilis clasped a paw over her mouth, she said too much just now and hoped Father hadn't caught what she said.

"Oh that's go-wait, who did you ask for directions from and why were you going any place than the one I had approved for you." Her Father barked.

"I'm sorry Father, I just wanted to know what was out there... I had just asked someone in the area and I promptly left to find my way home" she pleaded. This fight was not going to go well, she had misspoke and she knew he would pick up on it. The last time he did, she ended up grounded for days.

"There is nothing out there for you Dilis. Until you make it into the Court of Clubs, there is no reason for you to go exploring the realms. Once you come of rank, you can enter the courts, get married and do whatever it is you please. You will not do anything a second earlier, do you understand me? And did you just speak a contraction? Dilis Elena, that is the type of thing a peasant does. Do you want the world to think you are a peasant after all the schooling and all the work you have put in upping your rank?"

He seemed furious and Dilis didn't want to push him more, when he got upset he was miserable to live with so she squeaked out a sad "No Father, I apologize. I will go to my room now." She walked sadly up the stairs to her bedroom and as soon as Father was out of sight, she flung herself on her bed.

He would never understand! All she wanted was to be able to make friends and be happy and he could think about was his stupid pride and wanting her to get into the courts. Well, she had plans to go into Gale's shoppe tomorrow and maybe she would run into Seki again... so at least that made Dilis happy. As she drifted to sleep, tears still in her eyes she thought about all the people she might meet tomorrow and she smiled. She knew it was going to be a good day.


Note: It explains why Dilis is the way she is. Her father loves her and wants to be kind but sometimes he's too harsh on her.

I wanna be loved by you

Dilis had woken early this morning to make breakfast for her father, it was her birthday and today she craved for him to be pleased with her. Most of the time he acted like he loved her, he showered her with affection and told her stories to make her happy but sometimes when he looked at her for too long... I hope I don't screw up today... I don't want to be sent away again. Father seemed to always be upset with her. Everyday he would yell and tell her to leave for a few hours; Everyday she would sigh and leave, most times heading to Capital City. This morning she wanted it to be different.

She had just finished making his food and bringing it up the stairs when she heard him moving around. Aw, I had wanted to wake him up with the smell of breakfast. She crept into his room to see him sitting up, holding his head.

"Father, are you alright? Is there anything I can do?" She tried to comfort him but he batted her away.

"Child, there is nothing you can do for me. What is that mess you are holding? You better not have messed up the kitchen. If you did, you will be spending the rest of the day cleaning it up."

"I-I made you breakfast, I thought it would please you... I would never make a mess-I remember what happened the last time.." Dilis could feel the tears forming in her eyes as she remembered what had happened.

She was younger then, maybe around 5 and she thought that she would make a cake for mothers birthday, she gathered all the ingredients she needed but when it came time to add the egg... she dropped it on the ground. Father must have heard because he quickly came in the room and beat her raw. She knew that the day would be hard on him because he had loved her mother and also it was hard enough since she had died a year previous... on her birthday.

Dilis had wanted to put the cake at her grave site, in hopes her mother might somehow know. Her father had always told her that "Mommy went to be with God and couldn't come back", Dilis never understood that as she wanted to know why she couldn't go... Father had just bluntly said that she couldn't and not to think about it anymore.

Snapping back to reality, she knew what he wanted her to do. She mumbled "I'm sorry", cleaned up the kitchen and left the house again. She would stay away and come back a few hours later. By then he would have forgotten and she would be daddy's girl again. Perhaps today he would take her to the dress shop and get her the dress she had been eying before. All she had to do was be a good girl for the rest of the day and it would be hers...

This was placed after Ronno attacked them and she discovered what the gloves can do but before she went all crazy. It has mentions of adult things but not a full out explanation.

Dealing with a broken heart

I-I need space. I need the time to just figure out who I am.. you know... and it's not you... it's totally not you it's me.. and it's the timing of it all.

I don't know why it works this way but i'm never going to get over you. And so from now on, every girl I meet will be meticulously compared to you and unfortunately none of them will be able to live up to the false memory of what you and I once "had". I will now treat every woman I meet with a passive aggressive contentiousness that will ruin relationship after relationship for many years to come.

"Peder, I- I cannot see you any more. I am very sorry..."

Those words rung in his ears. He couldn't believe what had just happened. He finally had a plan and now... she was gone. If it weren't for Isolde, he would have given up by now. He was upping his rank to gain the approval of her father and He was even ready to propose to her tonight and now all of that was ruined. He knew that Greagoir would have a hard time saying no if he was say a Jack rank. It was all airs and privilege to Greagoir and Peder had hoped he could take advantage of that fact. He was a successful business owner and a higher rank, who could honestly resist giving their daughter's hand to someone like that.

Peder played with the ring in his hand as he walked back to the carriage he had reserved for them. She didn't even really tell him why, she just ended it like that. Maybe her father had gotten too her after all. Maybe she just didn't love him any more... No, there were too many questions half of them he didn't want to believe. Too many reasons she would just give them up like that. And then she said the one thing that broke his heart in half "Well... we can still be friends".

Yea. Friends. Every time he looked at her, he wanted to hold her. To protect her from all of the evils in the world. But even that was a laugh; where was he when she needed him most. In a puddle of his own blood, gasping for air while she was being raped by that... monster.

Poor thing never stood a chance against the lowlander and it was all Peder's fault. Why wouldn't she just listen to me! He slammed his fist on the door as he entered the carriage. She was rather thick when it came to her stubbornness; once she made up her mind, that was it. In that way she was a lot like Greagoir, her beloved father. Nevertheless he had failed her and now he was paying the price.

However, it probably was just an addition to those gloves. What the hell were they anyway? Images of what happened at the tea shoppe ran through his head. His beautiful Dilis had actually killed someone and in his panic, he had cleaned it up. He would do it again too if it meant he could protect her once more. It was a long carriage ride from Avington back to Capital City. He was alone for the moment all he could do was think. And he would have a lot to think about. First of which was his next step. He couldn't just give up, he had a business and a daughter to think about after all. How was he going to explain all of this to her?

Isolde had been working all day for Peder to bring home Dilis and meet her. She had been working so hard in the kitchen and now Peder had to tell her the disappointing news. He hoped she wouldn't take this too hard. It was supposed to be a joyous occasion where two families would be merged but no more. He thought carefully about what he could tell her as the carriage pulled up to his rather meager living quarters. He had saved every cent and been careful with his spending so he could afford a large home for himself and Dilis. Now he was left with his small empty home and a large sum of monies.

He got out of the carriage slowly and paid the man. Peder took a deep breath and walked into the house. The smells of a mouth-watering meal wafted in the air and that just made him feel crummier.

"Isolde, I'm home!" he called out trying not to show his emotions.

"Okay Dad, Dinners almost ready... does Dilis like Chicken or bee-" she shopped short as she entered the living room to see her Father alone and looking rather distraught.

"Where's Dilis?" she inquired. Whatever happened, she had a feeling it wasn't good.

"Well love... she's not coming. We seem to have broken up and honestly I haven't the slightest idea why".

"Oh Dad" she cried as she walked over and hugged him. At this moment, Isolde was not very happy with this Dilis woman. Her father was a catch if she ever saw one and Dilis was a fool to give him up. He could have given her an amazing life but... that's not what mattered right now. She needed to take care of her father and make sure he was going to be alright.

"If there is anything I can do, just say the word and know that I love you" she said in earnest.

Peder looked up at his daughter and grinned for the first time since he left Dilis. What an amazing woman he had helped give life, at that moment he knew everything was going to be alright.
