Giving a sigh the mouse sat on the sofa playing fetch with Monty. Yanking the toy out of his mouth she glanced at it. The poor toy, it definitely had seen better days. Once it had been a doll but now it was missing limbs as well as eyes that made the old toy look more like a lump of cloth and cotton than anything else. Waving it back and forth for a moment in front of the Bander she then threw it in the direction of the kitchen. All of her siblings had wondered off to do their great things in life. Iphis still came around every so often for tea and to hang out, but overall now that Mnem had moved up to the title of Highness at the Diamond Court it was just Minh and her in the apartment building. Of course she had managed to make it as a healer, having learned from Mnem and Temmin what she knew, but still there was something missing. If only he would notice her! But alas it seemed like it was not to happen. Silly boys and their being oblivious she thought with a growl that had Monty tilting his horned head at her. Throwing his toy for him and hoping it would get stuck somewhere and cause him to loose interest she made her way to Minh’s lab. When they had been little none of them had been allowed near Minh’s precious lab, but now that it was just her around she had slowly wormed her way into being allowed in sometimes. Knocking on the door she called out, “Mom, you would not happen to need help with anything, would you?” She needed to distract herself from her foolish longings and thoughts.

Minh peered up from the Bunsen burner she was watching, blinking at her daughter from behind her googles. The mixture she had boiling in the Erlenmeyer flask started to bubble over. A watched pot never boiled, indeed. Fuck. She flipped the heat off of the burner and scrambled for a towel to mop the mess up with, "Yeah, honey. Come on in. Watch the spill." She pulled off her gauntlets and pushed her googles back, tucking an errant strand of hair behind her ear. "What are you doing home, honey? Not doing anything interesting today?" Monty skittered up the stairs and between her ankles, toppling over some freshly washed vials when s/he jumped up onto the table. Minh's eyebrow twitched, but she didn't comment. Monty would just knock something else over to spite her. She eyed her latest failed experiment and sighed, dumping the remnants into the hazard bin and grabbing one of the few unbroken vials. Time to start again. "Would you grab me the distilled water, dear?"

Wincing as the mixture boiled over, she followed her mother’s comment for her to enter the lab. Making sure that she steered clear of the spill – she was aware of just how dangerous the innocent things could seem – she perched herself on one of the stools.
“Not really, no. Just staying home feeling sorry for myself,” she gave a shrug, “It is funny how just one person can seem to control your feelings, is it not mom?” She made the last comment more to herself then to her mother, though she would not appreciate her mother’s words.
Hearing yet another crash she looked over to see that Monty had made his way into the lab also. Watching as her mom went about getting rid of the last vestibules of her failed experiment she was quick to do as her mom asked in getting the distilled water. Bringing it to the table that Minh was prepping she slid it over to her.
“Anything I can do to help?”

Minh smiled at her daughter, "Not really, dear. Just keep me company." At least with Elyse, she could trust the girl to stay out of any kind of trouble. She couldn't say the same for her other two children--Hadyn was off getting himself off into who-knows-what kinds of company, and her accident-prone, kleptomaniac spawn Thalia was probably off robbing someone blind. She still wasn't really sure what she'd done to deserve such demented progeny; she was proud, in some strange sort of way.
She used a dropper to add the next chemical, watching the change in color--light pink to a more mauve color--and put it on the burner. It slowly turned orange. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
The vial was dumped into a disposable unit and quickly rinsed out to try again.
"So what have you been up to lately, dear? Besides feeling sorry for yourself?"

Seeing that Minh was not in any need of help she gave a nod of her head before returning to her stool. She remained silent as to not distract her mom too much as she set about working on her next attempt.
When it appeared to fail – at least in it being what Minh wanted to happen – she tilted her head, wondering just what it was that her mother was trying to create.
“Oh, not much. My name seems to be getting around so more people come to see me about ailments, which is good. Eilwyn got his sight back fully now.” she replied. She had told Minh about her adventures getting Wyn’s sight back for him. She was not sure if she had caught that the mouse had more interest for the eagle as more then a friend – she had never admitted to such feelings after all.
“Wot is it that you are doing?” she asked, curious to see if Minh would inform her or not.

Minh hummed distractedly as she listened to Elyse talk, enjoying the sound of her daughter's voice lulling along in the background as she worked. She didn't look up from the burner this time as she answered her daughter.
"I'm trying to recreate the potion that resulted in your Aunt Mnem's crazy-hair," she explained, transferring the liquid to a new flask and dunking the solution into an ice bath. She used a glass rod to stir the solution, watching blue crystals take life in the depths of bubblegum pink.
She wasn't exactly sure what she would do if she somehow managed to recreate the potion that had led to such an interesting disaster, but the properties of the liquid had been so utterly fascinating that Minh would love to be given a chance to experiment further with the compound. Which is why she wrote notes of procedure these days--it's hard to repeat something exactly when you can't remember what exactly it is you did, after all.
She jotted down the reaction in her little black book.

She had heard stories about the potion that had resulted in Mnem hair being the way it was but she was not sure that she knew the whole story. It would be very interesting to see if her mother really was able to recreate it.
Spinning on her stool some she spotted Monty a moment before he was able to knock something else over. Calling out to him she was able to chase him away from his mischief though not before he gave her a look that purely said that he was going to cause some kind of mischief and the fun was not over yet.
Turning back to her mother she saw her jot something down in the small black book that she had started to carry around with her. “Have you manged to discover anything close yet?” she asked interested to see if her mother had managed anything yet.

Minh couldn't help but wince as Monty knocked yet something else over in the far recesses of the lab; she could only hope it wasn't anything of particular value. She still hadn't quite recovered from when the little brat had smashed her penicillin culture--it had almost been ready for testing, too. She shot the bander a warning glance; the expression on the little monster's face was anything but innocent.
She added 10ml of methane to the mixture and turned down the burner; "Not really. The last time I thought I had a viable mixture I lost half the lab." She glanced regretfully down at her favorite workbench--there was a whole burned right through the center of it. It really couldn't have been helped with, though; the substances she was working with were highly volatile.
It would be nice if she could eventually get the mixture right, though. The first time it had been a complete accident, back before the little black notebook, and she had no idea how to duplicate the effects. She sighed, and stirred the concoction.

She could not quite stop a small giggle as she recalled the event where Minh had indeed lost pretty much half of her lab. Having been out late she had brought home food for supper. While she had been setting it out before calling her mother to come out and eat, an explosion had rocked the apartment. Upon rushing down to her mother’s lab to see what was going on, she had discovered her mother covered in smoke and half the table missing. Since nothing – besides the table – had been seriously hard it was quite a funny event to look back on.
“Well if you keep at it then I am sure that you will figure it out!” She replied, waving her tail happily behind her though she was careful to make sure nothing was knocked over.
Glancing around she eyed the room. “You know, we could add a few shelves to help sort everything.” She was aware that her mother had a set system on how things were done but she really wanted to do something to help her mother. Glancing over at one of the tables on the wall she reached over with one of her invisible limbs to pick up a bottle that was filled with a liquid and was corked.
“Wot is this?” she asked, eyeing the bottle interestingly.

Minh peered at her latest mixture, watching with delight as it turned a very satisfactory shade of pink/purple and little yellow crystals began to take form in the bottom. She took it off the burner and set it on a pad to cool. She turned to look at what her daughter had picked up.
"Oh! Your Auntie Mnem was rather cross with how long it took some of her more exotic plants to grow to maturity, so I started experimenting with the process of photosynthesis. That's a liquidized accelerator that I developed. Here--" she grabbed a pot of ivy that she wasn't quite sure what was doing on her desk, "Watch this."
Carefully uncorking the bottle, she poured a single drop onto the plant and watched with a certain degree of satisfaction as it began to unfurl and grow. She set the bottle down on the counter and smiled at her daughter.
"Great, isn't it?"
She heard Monty before she saw hir, whirling around in horror as the bander went skidding across the table, ricocheted off the pot the ivy was planted in, knocking it into both of her precious vials, and went lopping off again.
She watched the mess topple over in slow motion. Well, fuck.
