"I could see where that might be a little... stifling.[/b]" Seth chuckled, ducking his head to hide the grin that had begun to spread across his features. For the most part, Heilyn had done well to keep him entertained, even during the time spent in the Capital. Busy, at the very least, and as long as he was kept busy, he wouldn't feel stifled in the least. Protecting the woman was a full-time job, he was beginning to find, and he was sure that her being pregnant would only make his life more interesting.
His demeanor changed quickly as her next comment was made, and the corners of his mouth faltered ever so slightly. He watched the woman closely out of the corner of his eye, shrugging as non-chalantly as he could manage. "Yeah, she was. So was my brother.[/b]" He hesitated, then sighed slightly. "I guess you have some more questions about all that, huh? I've been honest, but not exactly forthcoming with everything.[/b]" His words were a clear invitation to her for whatever questions about him she could possibly have.
"I could use a little fresh air.[/b]" he said, sounding almost subdued for once as he looked at her. "And it would do us good to talk about some things, I think.[/b]"
~~~
Once they reached the very tops of the trees, Seth was quick to remove his mask, filling his large lungs with deep breaths of the clean air that surrounded him, eyes closing slightly in bliss. Here he didn't feel nearly as contained, and would be able to deal with an actual coversation. He glanced at Heilyn, watching her scale the branches to find a position near him. "So... Ask away. Anything.[/b]"
Heilyn couldn't help but feel a little excited over the open invitation into the man's past. The more time they spent with each other, the more she itched to know everything about him.
"Of course, follow me," she took him by the hand, leading him along before he had a chance to change his mind.
~~~
Heilyn scaled the trees, feeling a wave of nostalgia ripple through her. She missed this... she would have to make the trees back at the court her domain... hang out with Peaches, maybe.
She kept with her bipedal form as, if she slipped, she wasn't the only one who was going to be injured. The Human was great, but she hadn't quite gotten used to shoes yet. She settled herself straddling a strong branch nearby Seth and leaning up against the tree.
"I'd like to know why you always seem to dance around the subject of your family life whenever it comes up," she said, looking out at the treetops. Night had fallen into black. A glow from the artificial lighting of the town cast a haunting, soft under lighting on the pair and scene before them.

The man watched Heilyn climb, reaching out to her as she settled to cup her face in his large hand, shaking his head and grinning to himself. Up here, life was much more relaxed. The last few days had been... Anything but that. It felt nice to take his weight off of his legs, which were still aching from his fight with the Queen. The view was astounding up here, free from the shadowing of the trees yet still touched by the lights below. He sat in silence for a moment, just staring into the distance, the lights reflected in his eyes.
The bat shook his head slightly then, ears flicking back. "My family life was a right mess. My father was a settler from Josiggy. When he reached the Glacier he was dying of malnutrition, and it had some kind of effect on his head, I don't know. Anyway, he raped my mother, who had a pretty strong sense of Heart pride... Bearing the child of a Spade against her will was not something she took well to.[/b]" he hesitated slightly. These were memories the man did not often return to. "If I hadn't been born a Solandrian or an Eight, I'd have been killed. As it was, my mother eventually tracked down and killed my father.[/b]"
There was more that could be said on that matter, but as open as Seth was being... He did not want to bring the rest of those events up. They made him look weak, and that was something he just wasn't ready to be, especially not in Heilyn's eyes.
"It was 3 years after I learned of my father's death that my brother was born. He was the shining gem that I never could be to my mother.[/b]" he laughed slightly then, shaking his head. "Guess I was still better than him, though.[/b]"

What the hell am I doing? the paranoid part of her mind screamed, I'm pregnant, can't fly, but here she was up in a tree with a man a Solandrian assassin... trusting him! He could push me and simply fly awa-- all of her thoughts and fears halted with the touch. She let her eyes close for a moment and her mind roved back to the driftwood dragonfly back in her room. No, she had nothing to fear.
She sat quietly listening to his somewhat unsatisfying story. He left a few holes in it, didn't he? She turned her head to look at him for a moment. The soft light from below reflected off her oily fur in ribbons of light running along every curve of her body. She looked at him, taking in some amusement at how the light didn't reflect as much off his fur, but passed through and seemed to illuminate the tips of his thick fur.
"What do you mean you were 'still better than him'?"

The bat shuffled slightly, adjusting his weight so he was more firmly seated in the branches of the tree. The less thought he had to put into how he was seated the better, as it left more of his mind free for addressing the concerns of the coyote. He shifted his body so he was facing her general direction, ears flicking backwards and clearing his throat. This was the difficult part of his story.
"...My brother was a good kid when he was young, but as children are prone to do, quickly realized that mother hated me. It didn't take long before he shared that hatred, but through nothing that I'd done to him. It just rubbed off, I guess, I'm no brain-doctor.[/b]" he was watching Heilyn closely this entire time, almost seeming to judge her reaction to what he was saying. "Anyway, one morning my brother and mother were celebrating because he'd managed to raise his rank to a 6. A fucking 6, can you believe it? She told me that if I could ever be as sucessful as him in anything, I might be worth her attentions.[/b]
"I killed him that night, while he was out gathering wood. I waited for him at the woodpile and bashed his fucking head in as soon as he came out and using my water ability to drench him just in case the hit hadn't done him in. I earned mother's attention, as you could probably guess, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I have no idea how she managed to find me, but she tracked me down and I'm lucky to be alive today.[/b]" he laughed scornfully, shaking his head. "...And that's why I'll never go back to the Glacier.[/b]"

Heilyn shifted out of her bipedal into her Human form as she watched his every twitch. If she fell... she wanted to be able to catch herself with her "sticking to things" ability in the best form for magic... Paranoia aside, she listened intently and quietly. What she heard... gave her pause. She what she was hearing true? It certainly seemed to be. Everything in his body language indicated so. When he'd finished, she just paused, staring at him. Eyes were slightly widened and lips parted in a shocked expression softened with sympathy. She couldn't even begin to relate... She was born into luxury, was the better of her sibling and loved by her family. the worst she'd ever had to deal with was been born a low rank and whatever she'd chosen to get herself into.
Well, it definitely explained a lot about the man. In her shock, the next words escaped her without her notice.
"But if it didn't, I never would have found you,"

As surprised as Heilyn was to be uttering those words, Seth was even more surprised to be hearing them. He lifted his gaze to her face, red eyes widened slightly, brows lifted. He stat perfectly still for a second, as if afraid that his movements would ruin the moment somehow, as if afraid that he'd imagined her words. Something about it was just too much to take, not his admittance of his own shortcomings... but rather her acceptance of it.
He opened his arms slightly, inviting her close. "That's true.. I guess I have my mother to thank for that... First good thing she's ever done for me. Now come here and sit with me.[/b]" he said, a hint of pleading in his eyes. He wasn't sure quite how he'd react if she denied him this, especially after her quiet confession.
He just didn't want to think he was misunderstanding. Did she simply mean that she was glad to have met him for his new position of bodyguard to her? Just that she was glad to have such good sex? Or was it more than that...?

Her eyes widen further as she realized she'd voiced her thoughts rather than keep them safe and tucked away in their proper place in her head. fuckFuckFUCK! she screamed at herself mentally for her idiotic blunder. How could she just spill her feelings like that, especially ones she wasn't even sure she had? At least she couldn't possibly be sure, right? She barely knew the man, how could she even have such strong feelings for someone that wasn't hatred? And yet... she enjoyed their cuddling just as much as the sex... she loved when all of his attention was on her... she he stepped out of line, she never had the heart to crush him completely under her dominance.
Heilyn was brought back to reality by the fact she'd started getting up to go to him. She froze, staring straight ahead. Slowly, her eyes came up to meet his again, as if it would clear up her confusion. She wanted to run again, like she did the day they first time they slept together. But no. Doing that would only indicate guilt. The need to save face in combination with her desires over ruled her fears and she finished the move and crawled into his lap.
"...'ts cold..." she muttered in a rather pathetic lie.

The bat felt as if, for a moment, his heart would stop at the sudden apprehension that appeared on Heilyn's face. His arms started to fall, and then rather abruptly she dove forward, landing securly in his grip. He tightened his arms around her, wings folding atop both of them in a futile effort to bring her even closer to himself. Her human form felt so... fragile in his arms, a stark contrast from the Heilyn that he had grown to...
...love? Was that what it was? Oh god, he had to watch himself saying things like that if he wanted her to stick around for him.
He pulled back slightly to kiss her forehead, tensing slightly as he looked at her and met her eyes, stroking one cheeck as gently as his large paws could manage. "Lyn...[/b]" he finally said, sighing softly. "Lyn, what are we? What do you want me to be for you? Please, I need to know.[/b]"

Dammit, she felt so weak in his arms... and the worst part was she enjoyed it. That guilty enjoyment prevented her from taking on her bipedal form to match his. Her gloved hands fanned out as they snaked through the thick fur on his chest. She breathed in his familiar scent as she buried her face. That tightness, the way he held her, felt so good. Never mind that adding her weight to the branch as well increased the chances of it BREAKING!.... the thought barely came into mind as she pulled herself as close as possible to him, melting into his touch.
She took a sharp intake of breath as she pulled away, only to close her eyes and lean into the kiss on her forehead. She quivered as she felt her emotions spiraling out of control. She was frozen, eyes locked, as he stroked her cheek.
"W-what are we?" she repeated softly, not bothering to hide the fact that she had no idea, either, "You should... you should be here for me, so that we can figure this out..."
