All was quiet and still at the Court of Hearts. The tall trees pushing up towards the bright blue sky are only ruffled at times by a small breeze. A small pond lay at the forest's edge, right behind the palace walls. It's maximum depth is only about 4 feet down, and several small fish and frogs live in and around it's waters. Tall grass around its perimeter partially hides it from anyone walking by. Several large tree branches hang over the pond and casts a good amount of shade from the sun. All of a sudden, there is a "SPLASH!" on the pond's surface, and a majestic purple hawk dives down, talons out, to catch a fish in the shallower part of the pond. She misses it by inches and flies back onto a large overhanging branch in a huff. She shakes off the water on her feathers and shifts her feet, settling down again, to watch and wait for her future lunch to come out of hiding.

Viviane didn't really know why he was heading back to the Court of Hearts. Maybe he just wanted reassurance that he would be able to raise his rank one day? He didn't quite know, all he knew was that he wanted to be near the ponds, and to some extent, he hoped that the Queen would be there to talk to. He had done what he said, but still...there was a five emblased on his chest. He had wished very very hard since the last they met for his rank to change, and nothing...not even a slight shift in the number towards even a 6! Maybe the Queen had been jerking him around just to get him to leave? Did royalty do that? He was sure they did, but the Queen? He had seemed so honest. Maybe he wasn't giving it enough time? His thoughts were tossed away when he heard the noise of a severe splash. Oh no! Did one of the fish accidently jump on to the side of the pond?! If Viviane had any doubts about entering the Heart Palace, he no longer did. His Queen would surely not be happy if the 'drowning in air' koi died...and what if it was Ryo? Or Genji? Surely he would be upset! Before entering in through the gate he remembered what he had said in his mind. His Queen? The Queen wasn't his Queen....he was a diamond. He blushed a little and entered through the gates. It was then that he saw what had really happened. The fish were unharmed but frantic. But above int the trees stood the large figure of Villa Hawk, it's talons dripping wet from the tree. "You better not have eaten any of those fish!" he hissed threateningly to the hawk, his talon's slowly coiling as he spoke, his head slowly manuvering into an attack possition if the hawk decided to sweep down. The Hawk might have found this very sudden and strange. The snake had obviously slithered through the bush covered gates of the palace...and now a predator himself was guarding the fish? Wierder still was that the obviously male serpent spoke with the hint of feminineness in his voice, well...not a hint.....if he wasn't so obviously male...the Hawk probably would think he WAS a female. Certainly it would think that strange. But there was a look in his eye that Viviane wasn't truely aware of. Viviane loved koi...and would do anything to protect them....but there was something more...something that seemed very alien in the eyes of something like a snake. Love, possibly....

Suddenly, there was the whip-like smacking of water as the lone cat's paw cut through the lake's depth. More splashing followed by the sickening crunch as his jaws clenched at the frantic fish. A few gasps, spurts of mucus and blood, then death. The limp silver body fell with a splat onto the bank. A dribble of blood and spittle ran down over those jaws across shining metal pieces and extended claws. Those golden eyes glanced across the pond before settling on the freshly caught meal. His shoulders shifting as he lay in front of his meal, proceeding to rip of hunks of fillet, chewing on scales, flesh and all.

((Heya, just thought I'd pop in as a brief reminder. ^_^ We do have a rough 150-word minimum for posts, so if you could work on making future posts a bit longer, that would be for the best. Thanks!))
