Why was it that people thought they could just leave books lying around in the open, thrown wide open across the table, forgotten there after whoever had been reading them had hurried off with absolutely no regard to the text they had been using before? Really, they could at least close and straighten up their messes, not to mention the scraps of paper and stray pencils or quills that were left all around. It didn't take that much effort! At least, Anne reflected grimly, they didn't try to put the books back themselves. That almost never ended well, and she often spent days at a time re-organizing the shelves, especially if she had to go home to visit Mom and Dad. None of the others that worked in the Library seemed to have any sort of sense when it came to something as simple as keeping things organized. "More fools they," she muttered under her breath as she gathered up another abandoned book to put onto her cart in order to bring it back to its proper place.

For once in a very rare blue moon, Idril had ventured out of her library floor at the Diamond Court and was now heading back to the site of her old job, at the Capital public library. Entering the library she stopped to eye the changes that had been made. Not that many were noticeable, the few being the larger amounts of books that now decorated the shelves and tables. The study area had also been moved from one side to the next. She was here today to find some books for simple pleasure. While the Diamond Court had an extensive collection theirs mostly seemed to pertain to the genre's of history and research. She had quickly made her way through the simple pleasure reads. Looking about she spotted the section of shelving that she would need.

She rounded a corner, cart of books pushed before her, and then frowned a bit when the back of a very familiar Card came into view. Purple on white, with the brown points, and definitely a mouse, could that be...?
"Idril?" One of the only other competent librarians who had worked here, though the Esterberry had apparently moved on and was working, of all places, in the Court of Diamonds at the Library there! That must certainly have been quite an honor, though Anne wondered momentarily just what she'd done to be given such a plumb job in the Court. A shake of her head, and the rat banished such uncharitable thoughts. She knew exactly what the mouse had done - she'd worked, and hard!
"Idril, it's so good to see you!" Anne pushed the cart aside into its proper place, and flew forward to greet the mouse. Finally, someone who wasn't an idiot that she could talk to!

She was reading the synopsis on the back of the book when she heard her name being called out. That was odd, not many knew her name. Very few even seemed to know that she existed since she kept to herself. Looking around she tried to spot who it was that had called out.
Seeing the Yarrow rat that was heading her way her eyes widened a bit. Was that Anne? Everything would suggest it was . . . man it had been quite a while. Of all of the employee's here at the library she had been the only one who really seemed passionate about her job. While others seemed to like books, the two of them were the only ones who seemed to have a real connection to them.
"Anne! I-imagine seeing you here!" She greeted back placing the book in her hands back into its slot on the shelf. "How . . . how have th-things been?" She asked in her normal stuttering manner.

"You have no idea," she sighed, and rolled her eyes. "There's a new girl working here, just started volunteering last Thursday, and I have no idea whatsoever how she was accepted. She's lazy, she sneezes every time she gets just a little dusty, and I think she has to be dyslexic, considering how many times she's placed books in the completely wrong place. Even when I was there and keeping an eye on her!" The rat snorted, shook her head, and then adjusted her glasses once more.
"And Richard...really, I don't know why I keep him around. He keeps trying to get me to spend more time with him, but he's seen what it's like if there isn't someone who knows what she's doing coming by here to keep an eye on things on a regular basis." While he wasn't nearly as bad as her parents had made men out to be, he was still bothersome on occasion. Then at other points he'd do something utterly romantic, and she'd remember exactly why she'd fallen in love with him.
Anne suddenly blushed, one paw flying to her mouth. "Listen to me, I need to shut up a bit. I'm sorry for that, Idril. How have you been? What's life in the Diamond Court like?"

She gave a small sad smiled at her old co-worker and friend. Sadly it seemed that things had not gone as well for her.
At the comment about the new volunteer she winced and gave a small tisk. "I am so-sorry that you have to suffer like tha-that" There was not much worse than having to put up with someone like that. "You are st-still with Richard?" She asked.
She had met him once or twice when he had come by the library and he seemed like nice enough of a man. It definitely said something for the male that he was being so tolerant. Dealing with people like them was not always the easiest thing, apparently.
"No wo-worries." She replied with a smile. "It had been going much more smoothly than here apparently. Sadly not too many people seem to really come by my level of the library but they keep me busy enough." She loved her new job. The Court members that she had met thus far were definitely interesting characters, though the plants that had been added by Her Highness Mnem definitely were a lovely addition to the books.

"Oh, it isn't too bad, I suppose. At least I've got enough people here to do what is needed. I can always see about getting that girl put up at the front, I suppose." She waved airily, because Idril's comments had pointed out just how much she had been complaining, or at least apparently complaining. She didn't want to sound like a whiny pain, of course, because that was just...well. It was annoying for everyone around her, as she well knew from having far too many people complaining at her. Why did they all think that she cared about their problems?
"Yes, he's still around. A bit bothersome at times, but...well, what man isn't?" She sighed helplessly and shrugged in a, 'what can you do?' sort of motion.
Hesitantly, she tapped a finger against her muzzle. "Say, Idril..." Maybe this was a bit bold, but she always loved seeing other Libraries, even if it meant she'd have more to do when she came back here. "Would you mind if I came to visit you at some point? I'd love to see what you've done with your library, and what it's like at the Court of Diamonds." Going to visit one of the Courts, especially one where a friend worked? That would be lovely.

"That is good to hear" She was not really sure what else to say about that. So far she had not really had any experience with the male gender, at least nothing that came to anything amounting to dating or the like. No one had yet to appeal to her curiosity enough to distract her from her books.
She was glad when Anne quickly changed the topic. When her old friend was about to ask her a question, her ears perked up. She was always interesting in helping answer questions, especially when it came to sharing knowledge. Knowledge fed a person's soul after all. However, she was a little startled by the female's question.
Rubbing at one ear a little hesitantly, she replied, "I be-believe that should be o-okay. I-I mean if you want to . . . I wo-would like that." A small part of her was pleased at the idea that she would be able to, not flaunt per say but rather, proudly tout her place of work.
