It had been horrible. . the first time he'd woken up after his. . . rather embarrassing collapse in front of his Queen. The pain in his back had made him scream and toss until he managed to wiggle onto his stomach to get off the burns. He was left whimpering until he had managed to fitfully pass out again.
Pravus was vaguely aware the first two days of hands, and salves, and bandages, dimly through the fog that was in his head. Until on the third day he was awake, though not happy. But the fourth he was out of bed. It hurt to stand straight, and to bend.
But he could not miss the meeting, and against all suggestions and threats by the doctor, Pravus found himself wandering down the hallways of the palace. Wincing as he moved towards the sitting room. As he reached the door he straightened, hiding a growling moan under a quick cough that only did more damage before entering the room.

Eilwyn was in Theofilus' thoughts as he was lead down the hallway. Four days did not feel like enough time to form any kind of bond with the child. At least the sparrow knew that he was safe. Something and seemed off about the boy though. Even with his wounds bandaged up, he somehow seemed unhealthy. Perhaps it was because he had spent so much time in the Lowlands? No, god, he did not want to think about that. It had been easy on the child to adjust, even though he still asked where his mother was. A thousand knives seemed to stab the sparrow in the heart every time he thought about it.
The servant gestured to the room. Without hesitation or much feeling the sparrow walked in. It was a nice and cozy room. He glanced over Pravus. He still looked like hell, poor man.Theofilus then looked to The Queen and King questioningly. So what had they decided to give the pair?

Fino watched the two of them enter, somewhere in his mind wincing at Pravus's condition. Burns really were a bitch to heal. He should know - he'd caused enough of them. One of his fiery snakes was wound around his neck, the small orange and yellow one, burning quite merrily against his gown and skin while doing no damage whatsoever. Beside him sat Bernard, who looked tired but also somewhat pleased.
"We appreciate your coming, especially considering your... conditions after the ordeal of trekking through that region of filth and worthless life. Your success is more pleasing than you probably realize. Because you completed it so well under the circumstances, your rewards will be substantial in compensation. Your Excellence, we have the authority to raise your rank, despite the fact that you are of another Court."
Bernard smiled slightly and nodded, then stepped forward and placed his hand over the sparrow's breast. After a moment's concentration, he removed it and a brilliant red 'K' stood where once there was only a Jack's mark. "Of course, you will have to speak with your own rulers about titles and placement."
His attention turned to Pravus, and he allowed himself to smile as well, though it was small. "For being the one to actually bring her back... to spark the teleportation that finally ensnared that traitorous bitch in the palace... we will raise your rank as well, Pravus, and grant you a royal favor. Perhaps you will have use of it in the future." Again Bernard approached, if somewhat less happily, and placed his hand very carefully over the feline's rank. It, too was changed... to a 'K'. Though of course, he couldn't see it himself.

The sparrow blinked a few extra times. He was shocked. Shock was not the word, actually. It was some indescribable emotion between dread and joy. He was now a King, and had all the responsibilities that the title contained. All because of this chance quest.
All right. That was fantastic. He bowed his head and said, as cheerfully as he could muster, "Thank you, oh so very much, Your Majesty Serafino and Your Highness Bernard."
With that the sparrow simply departed. He was going back to capital city, spend a bit more time with Kel and a few more paths. Then he would return to The Courts with Eilwyn. He would close this horrible chapter in his life with two very precious gifts. The sparrow brushed his fingers over his symbol. He had a human form now, along with a raise and rank. It was amazing, many people would be shocked.
Somehow, Eilwyn, seemed more precious than anything else he could have and did receive.

Pravus slowly sank into the seat set aside for him. He could feel the healing, burnt, skin pull tight. Thankfully enough moisturizing salve had been put on to keep the blackened scabs from ripping and cracking as he sat. It still didn't make it any more comfortable but at least he wouldn't ooze all over the chair.
He listened with all the attention he could muster, paying attention to his Queen. It felt so good to be back in his presence, back. . where he felt he belonged. As Bernard put his hand upon the felines chest the male looked up and sneered. . . before quickly reigning himself in. Would not do to upset the Queen's favourite relative >.>
Pravus head tilted down to see the rank that donned his chest. But after moving only an inch his head snapped back up, eyes closing for a second. That. . had not been a good idea. Not at all. Pravus' eyes opened again once the pain had gone back to it's normal level. ". . . Thank you" He inclined his head a bit in a thank you to the King for the gift of rank and other.
He watched the bird give back the Quest ring and depart and worked his ring off his finger to hand back to Bernard. But. . he did not move from the room.

Watching the bird leave, Fino stood from his chair and walked over to his uncle. He tugged lightly on the swirled golden ponytail in quiet, tired thanks. He was feeling good, but also exhausted. He hadn't gotten much sleep over these past few days, mostly by choice. Both rings were entrusted to Bernard's care, his prizes to take and 'play with' as he would. "Thank you, uncle..."
After the man had left, he looked down at Pravus, sitting uncomfortably on his cushion. Those burns didn't look much better, but he knew the healing process had begun, furthered by the extremely potent salves smeared across the skin. They were an ugly rusty orange color, but he knew they did the job better than any other available. Top-notch, yes, but nothing else would quite suit his newest King. How very, very satisfying that was to think.
"For all that you returned injured... that went rather well, all things considered. Would you agree?"

Pravus watched every movement of his Queen with a sense of dread. Not . . because of Fino but more because of what he was about to say to Fino. It had been something gnawing at the edges of his consciousness ever since his first touch back with reality.
Once Bernard had left as well he pushed himself into a standing position. His tall bipedal form just as twisted as his animal form, but somehow better for the burns. He took a step towards his Queen before sinking to his knees and making a sharp sound at the pain. But. .
"My Queen I failed you." He said, every doubt, every self-analyzing moment leading up to it held within those words. Pravus. . . truly believe he had failed his Queen. In his mind, it was the worst possible thing that could have ever happened.

Crimson eyebrows slowly raised at the movement and words. He didn't move to stop the feline from sinking to his knees, but he thought the move quite foolish, especially with his injuries. The noise of pain only highlighted that fact.
"You completed your task quite admirably as far as I'm concerned, and earned yourself a place by my side as a proper King. What more did you want from this quest, my shadow? I should think the result quite satisfactory, though it will certainly take you some time to heal." He gently placed one hand on top of the furred head in front of him and stroked the fur just slightly, all of the injured man that he would dare to touch at the moment. Unfortunately.
Talyn taken care of... now only his father remained. The fact of her death still left him giddy, and watching Bernard deal with his father proved equally promising.

Pravus stayed still for a second, breathing through the pain. It felt good to have that reassurance, that small gesture of touch upon the top of his head. Oh what he would give to be free of his injuries and be able to take Fino back to his antechamber. . .
But there were more pressing matters, at least in his mind. . . Wait. . King?
He looked up quickly. "King?. . " His heart nearly stopped. King! But he couldn't be distracted! Pravus shook his head before continuing. He could revel in his new found king-dom later.
"I know.. . my Queen I know. Just." He paused, trying to find the words for what he had found so disgusting of himself. "I could barely fight off three /lowlanders/!" He said the word with the inflection it deserved.
"I. . probably wouldn't have made it without that Bird there with me." His shoulders bunched in anger before he was forced to make them relax, lest he agitate himself further. That whole ordeal had been horrible, and to top it off, he had almost been bested by filth.
.... King
