"Do be kind," Theofilus said to the feline quietly, "Or at least keep an open mind for now." Being nice sometimes got what you wanted. Apparently this was a difficult concept for him to understand.
"Good Sir, everyone has a use, and everyone has a price. My friend--as rash as he is--is more forgiving than you might think. You see, we're looking for someone you may or may not know," the sparrow pushed his glasses further on to his face. This man was hiding something and Theofilus didn't need a spell to figure that out.
"You said you haven't seen many of his kind. Which means you have seen some of his kind before, yes?" Theofilus wondered what would happen if the man bolted. Pravus would jump into action, obviously, but would he kill the man or torture him first? Either way didn't sit well with Theofilus. His sickeningly nice attitude would only last for so long before something had to give. He didn't want to rely too much on his diamond charm, it would probably get him into a horrible rut.

Pravus sneered and whispered back. "I will be whichever way I damn well please. . .bird" He hissed the last word but allowed the avian to remain in 'charge' for the moment being. The thing was obviously too weak to stand up to a proper questioning and he frankly didn't have the stomach to be nice. . .to a club, no less. Lowlander and club, sickening. If the biped beside him was willing to act nicely to such a thing, let him degrade himself, it was no matter.
In fact, Pravus walked off the porch and sniffed around the base of the house while Theo continued to question the male. He was sure he could handle himself. hehe He sneered, or at least Pravus could. .probably make it there in time if he heard a scream. He chuckled as he went around back.

"I've only seen two like him in my entire life, and none of them were like him." As he made the emphasis, his eyes moved to the odd deformity that marred the feline's back. That he hadn't seen anything even remotely similar to, not in all his years, whatever it was. It made him decidedly less curious for the simple fact that nobody walked around with something like that unless they could handle the words that no doubt came with it. "An' neither of 'em were what you're looking for."
Sniffing around the base of the house was, perhaps, a bad idea. Pravus got a nose full of refuse and rotting offal, mixed with odors not even worth the description. Around back, there was a rather large gaping hole where more planks had been ripped from the side of the house. It was probably big enough for him to fit through, but he would scrape himself doing so. Splinters. Ick.
A few others not too far off had paused in their movements to watch the tableau.

Pravus reared back and hacked at the smell. He had been privy to the smell of blood, piss, entrails, everything that ripping someone apart could bring. But this. . .it was all and none at the same time, rotting horribly for years. What a wretched wretched stench. He could barely force himself around the house but then he stopped, noticing the hole in the back of the house.
He considered. . splinters were one thing. But rotting stink splinters were another. >.> Could he catch some sort of disease from them, he sincerely considered it possible so he instead just tried to peek inside, holding his breath and staying a good foot away from the house itself. Perhaps they could find some resemblance of food that he could skiff, or even. . .
Pravus went back to the front of the house after peeking in. He needed to talk to Theo about where they would spend the night. His blank eyes stared glassily at Theo as he came back up on the porch. "Seems we've drawn a crowd."

Theofilus raised an eyebrow. "You don't know that good sir. You really don't."
Of course his conversation was cut short by his companion. Who had, idiotically enough, decided to sniff around the premise. What a smart little kitty he had been paired up with. The sparrow suddenly noticed the spectators before his feline companion spoke. Oh what a wondrous night it was going to be.
"Yes, Pravus, I just noticed," the sparrow looked to the Lowlander, and then back to the Highlander. "Could you perhaps tell us about the two encounters, dear sir?" It almost sounded like a hiss. His patiences was running thin now that they had drawn a crowd. Damn, he never wished more than he was a lower rank than now. At least if there was trouble he could handle himself. The heart was obviously more than capable.
"I don't mean to rush you, the darkness just seems to be moving faster than usual, you can understand my haste, I'm sure?" He just wanted to sleep in a normal place that didn't smell like death, but that would never happen in the lowlands.

From what Pravus could tell, the house consisted of only one room, light falling in from holes all around the building to illuminate it rather nicely. A pile of furs, two rough-looking barrels, a box in the corner, and a half-eaten little rat were the only things that he could see in the room. It didn't smell any better inside than it did outside, to judge by the air around the makeshift 'window'.
The quick change in tone, from overly pleasant to almost a hiss, made the canine almost relax. Yes, this was about what he'd expected, especially from someone with a face card emblazoned on their breast. You couldn't be nice if you wanted a rank like that. You had to fight your way there, tooth and claw... or perhaps beak, in the bird's place. "One was a bird, maybe five or so years ago. Other one... I think that was a bird too, maybe a year ago. Doesn't much matter either way. 's my brother's girl, and he doesn't matter any to someone like you. Just a cooper in the city."
Several members of their crowd looked away and dispersed in what seemed common Lowland fashion as those blank eyes glanced over them, but one or two merely looked away and stayed where they were. Again, breeds were hard to tell, but one of them looked akin to a lion, his mane a disgustingly matted thing hanging heavily around his face.

Very interesting indeed. "Actually, both of them might be of interest to us. We are looking for birds in fact." It was a lead, thank the sky above! This was information they could probably use. "Would you mind telling me a bit more? Do you mind telling me exactly where your brother could be found?"
He looked to Pravus. He hoped the man was paying attention. This could prove to be very useful to their quest. And he was sure that the feline would jump on the chance to please the Queen of Hearts. Theofilus' thoughts wandered to his ring. Was this going to be useful? Were they going to get through this lovely quest alive?
The lowlanders in the background still bother the sparrow. He wished that they would just spontaneously evaporate or something more of a fiery nature. The one place he had to be sent to was this dirty hell forsaken hole. Pravus better speak up if the man refused to talk.

Pravus was listening very intently, even though his eyes were no longer on the canine. In fact, his eyes were all for the . . . lion? perhaps? across the road. Disgusting thing, that thought had gone through his mind so many times in the last few days it was becoming quite commonplace. He didn't take off to confront the lion however but kept his eye on him as Theo continued to grill the canine about locations.
"You should tell him. . mutt." He sneered out the side of his mouth as he kept his eyes on everyone else. "Hey Captain Sparrow," he said with another shot of slight mocking, "When you're done with him, perhaps we should find a place to crash."
Was that lion worth even watching? . . . He continued to stare.

The canine's eyes strayed to the lion watching not Pravus or Theo, but him. His eyes widened even further, pupils dilated to near total blackness. "One's always with the other," he growled out low, tone going from high and whining to almost a rumble. "City. Look for Garthen. There's no place for you to stay around here, no inn til the city. Just... go away. Go away."
Yes indeed, he would sell out his own brother if that's what it took to get these high-ranking outsiders away from him. He didn't like being looked at, stared at, by the others in the village. There was no reason they should stare. Except that one. A shiver ran down his spine, the action more violent than the rippling of his fur already.
The lion blinked slowly, olive eyes intent, before turning and walking away at a slow saunter. He didn't have anything more to do with this group. Not here.
