The blade did indeed hit Morton's neck at such an angle that it cleaved through half of his throat before stopping against the bone. Were it of a better quality, it would have been even more effective. The hotel manager went down with little more than a gurgle and a pronounced 'thump', several objects in his coat jingling suspiciously. As he fell, one of his pockets suddenly exploded and lightning consumed his body, charring it at such close range and making the most awful smell yet.
As Theo opened the door and indicated Pravus should precede him, one or two people loitering around the hotel bothered looking up at their passage and blinked at the smell that suddenly wafted from inside. It wasn't exactly something that sent them running, not with their home, but it was... noticeable. They would have to investigate. Later. When the Jack and the suspiciously smoking feline weren't standing so close.
The road looked as it did before, with several active shops and many beggars lining the way. If they looked far enough, the bat beggar was still where he had begun, but no one else looked familiar to them.

Once again, he was pleased at the feeling of flesh beneath his blade. It was a shame it hadn't gone the whole way through, but it would do the job. Which was. . .quite obvious, as the manager slid to the floor, making a rather thick wet sound as he did so. Pravus heard the jingling, and remember the hand that had been about to raise something and attempted to get back to the door double-time.
He caught the edge of the blast and was thrown partially towards it, though he didn't feel any burns this time. And then. . his painkilling wore off and he winced as his back stiffened up. He was going to need to clean those somehow once they were in the clear. Perhaps some water from the bird once they were out of sight.
On the way out he stooped and grabbed the second sword from the Vultures hand before proceeding out the door before the bird. What a sight he must have been. His back was singed down to fat in some places and his fur was covered in blood and dirt. He stood stooping outside the door, a longsword in each hand, as he scanned the crowd for that blasted lion.

Talk about a literal blaze of glory. The smell caused Theofilus to flinch. The stench just added to the sparrows dismay of the situation in the Lowlands. How could anyone live like this?
He eyed Pravus up and down. The feline was in a horrible state. The burns from the lighting had burned down to his very skin, and the blood and sickly mess was covering him. They had to clean him up before they had another confrontation, he could not even imagine the pain the cat was suffering from.
The sparrow looked out at the street. The bat was the only figure he could recognize. The lion... the card before had said he was a cooper. They needed to find the cooper. It was a long shot to ask a blind man where places were in the city, but he was probably more useful than a high man.
"We need to find the cooper," Theofilus looked to Pravus. "After we figure out where he is, I'll clean you up. Shall we ask the wise blind man for advice, or go and ask the high man? Stumbling around the city doesn't seem to be an option."

Pravus stumbled a bit before righting himself again. This was getting to the point of being ridiculous and he'd just about had enough. At least he got to kill some filth. . .that made his day marginally better. He waited for the sparrow to the leave the building as well and nodded as he spoke.
"I believe the old man knows more than he let on before." Hiss. "I wouldn't give him another drop of water though" He began to stalk somewhat rigidly towards the place they had last seen the beggar. The flaming throbbing feeling began to sink deeper into his body and make his bones ache. It was honestly becoming quite hard to focus but he continued forwards.
He stalked up to the old man once he had him in his sights and leaned down low, nearly spitting in the blind man's face.
"We have need of a cooper." Each blade was held steady to the side.

The bat felt a presence in front of him right before the hot breath and smell reached him. He jerked backward in surprise, not wanting to be anywhere close to someone who smelled and spoke like that. Charring... flesh, was it? Something burned, or had burned recently. The smell of blood liberally soaked the form in front of him. He felt more than heard the silence of his fellows.
"Only cooper in the city is a shepherd by the name of Garthen, shop several streets up and on the left side," he said nervously, ears twitching every which way for sounds of trouble. He knew the city well enough; he'd lived here his entire cursed life. Smells like that didn't happen unless there were Serious Problems going on nearby. "I, ah, take it the manager directed you to find him. Just beyond this point is the split, good masters, and you'll need the right fork."
...Garthen? He'd wondered... well. Interesting. No sense in asking a payment for directions, especially not with the smell of death lingering so fondly about the feline's form.

Pravus stayed looming, the smell of the bat nothing compared to the smell of himself now. It was about damn time they started getting somewhere. He had not said the name Garthen, in case there were several coopers. But if he was the only one than so be it.
"The manager.. . " A sneer spread across his face, a look of pure blissful evil. Ah yes, how nicely that sword had bit into his neck. No point telling this bat that he was dead however, he was sure he would figure it out on his own. "The manager and his 'guards' told me whom to seek and you'd be better off keeping that to yourself."
He signaled to the bird before beginning to walk down the street, keeping an eye out down each side street for a coopers shop.

At this point being nice was not an option. The feline had just killed the staff of the inn, and they were still in hostel territory. He made no objects on getting out of here as fast as possible.
Theofilus rolled his eyes. Okay, Pravus, go ahead and harass the blind man who obviously knows that you're a killer. He totally needs hints to figure out that Morton is dead. The sparrow shifted into his midform and swiftly made a motion to follow the feline.
He looked at the blind man briefly, "Thank you for cooperating. We're happy that someone did." The sparrow smiled weakly to himself. He didn't need a lie detector spell for this. No one was stupid enough to lie in a situation like this. Life, even in this hellish nightmare, was valued.
Finally the were getting somewhere. They had a solid lead, and a person search for besides their original target. Theofilus would be ever-so-happy upon meeting the bitch that put him through this. Her horrible state would be satisfaction in its finest hour. It was cruel, but it was the least cruel thought that Theofilus supported.

As the sparrow and feline left the area, the bat shook like a leaf. So that's whose blood it was. Damn it. Who the hell were these people? Beyond 'Highland feline' and 'Captain' with feathery rustling, he had little to go by, certainly not a rank or look. Morton dead... that meant a lot of things. A lot of rearranging. And he knew very well who they were headed off to find. Damn. Damn damn damn.
Following the vague but accurate directions given by the bat led them through more beggar-filled streets, buildings in various states of disrepair and filth all around. From one window, something unpleasantly liquid and brown flew and just barely missed Theo as it splattered on the street, likely speckling a few of his feathers.
All of a sudden, there was a loud squeal ahead of them, the sound abruptly silenced as a door slammed. Several heads turned, then quickly resumed their former positions. No one wanted to be involved in whatever it was.

Theofilus twitched as the brown liquid splattered besides him. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. A shiver ran up his spine as ignored the bits that got on his feathers. No, he did not want to think about what was actually on him. He'd have a nice bath after this nightmare. Several baths.
His thoughts were interrupted by a horrible squeal and a slamming of a door. He watched as several people did not make a motion to prevent what was happening to continue you. Fine. Theofilus would do it, and he would do it right. Being a bit of a bastard was necessary sometimes, even if he despised it. The stereotypical diamond snake never truly appealed to him.
He quickened his pace, motioning for the feline to hurry as best he could. "Whatever is going on, I think I'll stop it. Simply because I feel like being a nosey bastard," he said as he stopped outside the approximate place where the sound had come from. He strained to listen. What was happening exactly? He certainly was ready to burst through the door if he needed to. It hopefully would not come to that. Knocking was so much nicer.
