These languages are in addition to the common tongue and the Diamond house language. - Strong Magical Ability - When activated, she can cast a lie-detector spell on a Card of any Suit, except for Spades, and of a rank lesser or equal to her own, once per day. Cards of equal rank would be aware of the spell, but Cards of lesser rank would not. - Powerful Magical Ability - When activated, she can fly for up to 40 minutes. Winged Diamonds can use this ability for effortless, perfectly controlled flight. - Jack's Ability - Once per week, she is able to melt sapphires and shape them into up to two-inch figurines and/or jewelry. They can be re-melted and shaped again at a later date. - King's Ability - Once per week, she is able to melt up to two gallons worth of sapphires and encase an opponent’s body part and/or head in them. If she decides to encase an opponent’s head, they will not automatically suffocate and die, but they will be put into a temporary state of suspended animation until she sees fit to let them go. - Queen's Ability - Once per month, she is now able to cause an opponent to change instantly to their Animal form. They will be unable to change into any other form (magical, normal, or otherwise) for a full ten minutes. This ability can be used to revert Jokers to their natural Animal form or the closest thing to it, but does not work on Rabbits. If the Card only possesses their Animal form, then they will feel an incredible pain for a full ten minutes as their body tries to comply doubly with the power of this Queen's ability. - Moderate Ability - Once per week, she is able to pull out her harp and, by concentrating quite thorough on it, even though she’s just playing the instrument, she can lull everyone within a fifty foot radius into a sense of false security. She’ll know if she’s got everyone in the radius by how they look at her, which will be with half-glazed eyes and slightly open mouths as they listen to her music. Once this has happened, she will know that she has a full ten minutes to tell these people either her version of events, a story she finds funny or amusing, or a real truth or a lie and everyone in the room will believe it. After ten minutes, the spell breaks and what she has said is now believed. Note: the Diamond lie detector spell will not be able to break through this lie unless the Diamond casting the spell is ranked King or higher. - Moderate Ability - Once per week, she is able to cause complete hearing loss to an opponent for up to three hours. During these three hours, they will continuously hear repetitive, loud harp music in their heads to reflect her mood at them. It is intensely distracting and they can’t get away from it or change anything about it. They’re stuck with it until the spell wears off. - Tooth Ability - Once a week, this SD is now capable of causing their own teeth to lengthen to twice their size for a full thirty seconds. During this time, their jaw will be excessively flexible and their own teeth are unlikely to damage them. - Small Ability - Once a week, she is now able to cause another Spade's water ability to burn their hands, or arms as it exits them by magical force. The burn is mildly painful and will dull slightly after the other Spade has finished with their water ability. Once she has cast it on them though, they will feel it every time they use that ability that day. - Small Ability - Once a week, she is now capable of causing a strong gust of wind to aim for an opponent's eyes. This will cause Cards ranked Eight and lower to close them for the ten seconds it blows and anything ranked higher to blink rapidly as their eyes sting. - Ability Addition - This ability now affects Cards ranked King and lower. - Small Ability - Once a week, she is now able to cause one object the size of her palm or smaller to leap out at another person. This ability does not apply to magical items. Once the object has flung itself once, the spell is spent. - Small Ability - Once a month, she is now capable of causing small local birds to dive bomb an opponent in a cloud of at least 15 for a full ten seconds. The birds will instinctively aim for the nose and peck, but not scratch before trying to get away. - Small Ability - Once a week, she is now able to cause marble (only applicable if it's within fifty feet of her) to make a horrible cracking sound, as though it's all about to fall in around her. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Former Familiar - Now PetID: ST031 Name: Trudy Gender: Female Species: Slithey Tove Her long antenna send out sound waves that are too low to be physically heard, instead they shake the earth beneath the opponents feet for a good five minutes. Note: This questionnaire was completed before she arrived at the Court of Spades and took up a title.
Part 1: The Basics
1. What is your full name?: Donalda, but call me Donnie. I prefer it.
2. Where and when were you born?: I was born during the spring in the Villa en Miir, in my mother’s bedroom.
3. Who are/were your parents?: My mother is a Villa songbird named Portia, a Ten of Spades. She’s a first-rate vocalist and performs in either duets or solos during concerts. When she isn’t practicing or flying, she has a side job as a barista in one of the upscale cafes because she enjoys working with people and they pay her well to sing for the clientele when she isn’t busy. My father was a Yarrow wolverine named Jolie who died a few years after I was born from some sort of disease or poisoning. I’ve never been able to figure out which it was, or squirrel any details out of people who would know. It’s damned frustrating. She was a Seven of Diamonds, though, and I know she had a pretty good temper from what my mother told me.
4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?: I have one sister, a full-Villa songbird Eight of Diamonds named Estella. She’s like a little mini-Mom sometimes, except that her voice isn’t quite the same caliber, which is a shame. She covers for it by playing the lyre in accompaniment. We both have a thing for string instruments. I don’t really know what job she’s doing right now, since she only comes back to Villa for a few weeks a year. She’s out to make a name for herself in the Capital or something like that as a performer. I don’t think she’s doing a very good job of it, but whatever makes her happy. She jumps from job to job so often that I don’t keep track of it.
5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people: I’m still living in the Villa for a good part of the year, but I’ve been splitting my time more evenly between there and the Yarrow in preparation for my debut in the Courts. I stay with either my mother or my father’s relatives, since I’ve always had a good relationship with most of them. My grandmother is usually the one to put me up.
6. What is your occupation?: Right now, nothing. I hope to become a titled King of Spades soon, though.
7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks:
8. To which social class do you belong?: The elite. I’m a King of Spades and have been for a few years now. Worked my way up from Jack, and I have my eye on Queen someday, though I don’t know when. I suppose that depends on how things are at Court.
9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?: Plums make my throat close right up after a bite or two. Otherwise, I’m healthy as a horse.
10. Are you right- or left-handed?: Right-handed.
11. What does your voice sound like?: I've got a husky voice with an unpleasant burr, more's the pity. I'm a contralto.
12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?: Ehm. Dunno? I guess it changes depending on who I’m spending time with.
13. What do you have in your pockets?: I don’t have pockets. Even in my human form, the outfit has no pockets. I think they’re nothing but junk-collectors.
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?: I get snippy and/or angry when somebody tells me I’m wrong, especially if I think they’re full of crap. If I’m sitting down and even mildly bored, my fingers start twitching in strengthening exercises automatically. Sometimes I notice when they start making noise, sometimes I don’t.
Part 2: Growing Up
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?: It was pretty good. I mean, overall, I can’t really complain. I had a good time.
16. What is your earliest memory?: The smell of the Yarrow flowers in a vase on my mother’s table right after my father’s funeral. She stopped putting them there after she died, so it had to be young.
17. How much schooling have you had?: I went through the general education system in Villa from start to finish, which of course included music lessons and after-hour extracurriculars.
18. Did you enjoy school?: I didn’t like fiddling with numbers. They irritated me. History was more fun, and learning about the Courts and the different regions, so I actually paid attention there. Music was always a blast, and I dominated gym. You’ve never seen a ball thrown so hard.
19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?: My family taught me a lot. School taught me even more. Some I was just born with.
20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them: My mother was my role model, absolutely. I thought that if I could ever be as good with music as she was, my life would be complete. Obviously this changed over time, but I still compare myself to her as a benchmark in a lot of things. She’s got a lot more patience and kindness than I ever will.
21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?: I got along great with Mom, barring the usual tiffs and teenage hormones. Stella and I fought sometimes, but I always won if it came to blows and got punished. We got along a little better after she left home, honestly. Catching up every few months isn’t as bad as having to deal with her constantly around. We never really saw eye-to-eye on much.
22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?: When I was really little, I wanted to be a bird with a beautiful voice like my mother. When I got old enough to realize how stupid that was, I wanted to be some sort of knight or sword fighter. Now that I'm old enough to roll my eyes at both of those, I want to be the Queen of Spades.
23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?: I loved playing my harp and I loved gym. Those were my absolute favorite things to do.
24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?: I didn’t have much of an attention span as a kid, apparently. I grew out of it, but I used to be all over the place. I hated sitting still. Working with learning harp as diligently as I did helped me figure out how to focus. I did, and still do, prefer doing to watching.
25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?: I was about average, I guess. I tended to stay away from a lot of the boys in terms of friends, but one or two I could handle so long as things stayed super-casual and they didn’t ever say anything bad about Yarrow. A good friend of mine was a Villa girl named Tam, short for Tamaska or something like that.
26. When and with whom was your first kiss?: Tam, when I was thirteen. We were silly and stupid, but it was fun. Eventually we both got kind of bored with each other and went our separate ways, though, which still makes me sad to think about.
27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?: Heeeeeell no! I lost that when I was sixteen and in the Yarrow for one of our yearly visits. I got kind of drunk at one of my aunt’s parties and woke up next to this little minx of a raven. She was good about it and I still visit her every now and again when I’m in town, more for a chat over coffee than anything else. She likes to hear me play the harp, which earns her points, and I love the perfumes she makes.
28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today: I guess an interest in the Courts was sort of a natural process. I mean, I was born a Jack and my mother always hinted at it as a career path. My options were open and all that crap. I kept it in the back of my mind as an option and when I started to really get a thing for reading about history and politics in school - my history teacher was great, may I just say - I thought about it more seriously. There was encouragement from the people around me, so I figured hey, why not try? I mean, I’m a smart person. I have good ideas, right? I’m sure the Courts can use me, and even more than that, I bet I can change things for the better. Everyone says that the Court of Spades isn’t doing so hot these days. I see it as almost a duty to my suit to help turn that around. Mom always had pretty good Spade pride when she bothered to think about it. I owe it to myself and a lot of other people to see that our suit is represented the best it can be.
Part 3: Past Influences
29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?: Uh. Being born? *snort* Alright, so besides the obvious smart-ass answer, it would probably be my relationship with a bitch of a Yarrow named Sadie. It was great for a while, but boy, when it ended... kapow! Nasty, messy breakup on both sides. During that time, though, she got me a lot more interested in the Courts because of her own interest in the Diamonds.
30. Who has had the most influence on you?: Mom, no question.
31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?: When people ask me that, I usually go with ‘achieving my King rank’ and all that. Really, though, it was probably making my own harp when I was seventeen. You may laugh, but I worked for months on that thing and I love her like you wouldn’t believe.
32. What is your greatest regret?: Not giving Sadie a kick to the gut before I left. *cough* Uh, no, it’s probably not being able to get to know my Dad, considering how young I was when she died.
33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?: Poisoned Sadie’s bander. I regret it now, but at the time it was completely justified. Little fucker needed to die.
34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?: No? I don’t think so, anyway. That’s mostly because I don’t give my name in bars so I can’t be included in any official reports should they come about. It’s only come up once and it wasn’t my fault, but I was part of it and damn glad I’d called myself something else.
35. When was the time you were the most frightened?: Probably the first time I had a plum. I swallowed a few bites and then things started feeling funny and I suddenly couldn’t breathe. I nearly died.
36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?: Having to admit to my mother everything I’d done during my breakup with Sadie. I’ve never felt her disappointment so keenly...
37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?: I’m not going to say I wish I’d never met Sadie, just because of what else it did for me, but I sure as hell wish I’d cut the relationship off long before we ended it.
38. What is your best memory?: Thunderous applause after my first and only solo performance in front of our entire town, during our school graduation concert. I’ve never felt as alive as I felt in that moment.
39. What is your worst memory?: Sadie, near the end. It was a bad time.
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?: I’m sorta both, but if I had to pick then I’d say pessimistic. Nothing’s going to happen if you don’t make it happen.
41. What is your greatest fear?: My first thought was 'weakness', but even I realize that's stupid. Everybody's weak. It's just where you keep it and how you show it that counts. I sometimes worry that my own ambitions are going to get ahead of me and take me places I don't want to be, but I usually dismiss the thought as a side-effect of PMS.
42. What are your religious views?: That kind of stuff wasn’t very heavily touched on during my lifetime. I don’t believe in ghosts, if that’s what your asking, and people who see things that aren’t there just make me roll my eyes most of the time.
43. What are your political views?: If you want to see something done, you’ve got to do it yourself. That applies to life, politics, and everything in between. I don’t think the Hearts are as almighty hot-to-trot as they think they are, but I don’t have that much political bias. Yet. I’m sure spending some time at Court will change that. I’ve never really been in the thick of things before.
44. What are your views on sex?: Uh. It’s fun? Women only, though. I’ve never been sexually attracted to men. Bleh.
45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?: Yes, I am able to kill. I don’t necessarily like it, but I’m able to. There’s a time and place for everything, and I think that sometimes it’s called for. I mean, there’s got to be a reason, a good one, and it’s easier to kill in anger than in cold blood, but yeah... we all do what we have to do sometimes.
46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?: Destroy the world? I guess? There’s plenty of evil things that people could do.
47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?: Not... really? Maybe? I dunno. I’d really like to. I just haven’t felt anything like that yet myself.
48. What do you believe makes a successful life?: Getting off your ass and doing something. Accomplish something with your life, even if it’s small. Make it a better place, for yourself and for others. Don’t just sit there and talk about it forever without actually doing anything.
49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?: Everybody puts on a front for strangers. I try to be seen as polite and nice enough, but not so nice that someone’s going to walk all over me. Forceful and assertive is better than passive. With family and close friends, I don’t bother. They take me as I am or they don’t. It might hurt, but it’d be worse if they didn’t really know me.
50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?: I don’t have a very high opinion of men in general. I mean, I’m not as bad as a lot of my family on my dad’s side, but they tend to be less intelligent in general, don’t they? It sure seems that way.
51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?: I refuse to just sit down and take everything life throws my way, absolutely refuse. I’ll carve my own path or die trying.
52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?: Mom. As of now, that’s it. I love the rest of my family, but she’s the only one I’d give my life for.
Part 5: Relationships With Others
53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?: I treat others politely. I’ve got good manners. I tend to look down on men, but not to the same degree as most Yarrows. If they get in my face, I’ll get right back in theirs. If I know them really well, I’ll probably be more blunt and honest.
54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?: Mom. She’s always been there and she’s always supportive.
55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?: Mom, again. She’s accomplished a lot in her lifetime and she’s happy, even after Dad died.
56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people: I haven’t had a best friend in a little while, since school. Well, Sadie was for a while there. No more need be said on that subject. I’ve got lots of friendly acquaintances, if that counts.
57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person: No.
58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened: I thought I was for a while there, but no.
59. What do you look for in a potential lover?: Female genitalia, first off. *snerk* But no, seriously? I like feminine girls. They need to smell good, and a pretty smile always helps.
60. How close are you to your family?: To Mom, very. To Stella, eh. To the extended bunch, it depends, but reasonably close would be a good general answer.
61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?: No, I haven’t. I’d like to someday, I think, but I need to find the right woman first. I’d rather not do it alone.
62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?: Mom.
63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?: Again, Mom. I trust her implicitly. I’d rather be able to protect myself, though.
64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?: I like to think that most of my family and friends would.
65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?: Sadie, the dumb bitch. Rawr.
66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?: I eat conflict for breakfast. I’d rather argue than let something just wash over me.
67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?: Yeah, I do. Always have, from school onwards. I like taking the leading role. More work, but everything gets done the way you want it to.
68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?: I’m fine with it. I think you get more done one-on-one a lot of times, but I’m fine with public speaking. It’s just never really bothered me.
69. Do you care what others think of you?: I guess. I mean, who doesn’t?
Part 6: Likes And Dislikes
70. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?: Playing my harp. There is no question.
71. What is your most treasured possession?: Again, my harp. I made her myself when I was sixteen and it took me for-fucking-ever. Worth it, though. She’s gorgeous.
72. What is your favorite color?: Green. Maybe white or off-white. I just think they’re pretty. It would be easier to ask what my least favorite colors were, though.
73. What is your favorite food?: I love clams. If they're cooked in wine with onions, oh, you've got me.
74. What, if anything, do you like to read?: Romance, definitely. The crappy, sappy stuff. Then history and politics.
75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?: Live musical performances are my favorite, no question. Whether it’s formal, like a concert, or informal and full of dancing, I love it.
76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?: No. I drink socially, but I don’t make a point of getting drunk to have a good time. I’d rather stay sober most of the time, not that I always do. Drugs, I abhor. Absolutely disgusting stuff. If you use them, I can and will look down on you as pathetic and try to get you either off of them or arrested.
77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?: At home, I play duet with Mom in the café where she works sometimes. Otherwise, I might be invited to a party or just chilling at home.
78. What makes you laugh?: People, mostly. Maybe they’re doing something funny, or stupid, or just having a good time and enjoying themselves. I think people are funny.
79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?: I get uncomfortable and a little disturbed whenever I watch a man being overtly sexual towards a woman. It's especially bad if he's being overbearing about it. Makes me want to go over there and punch him in the face. Ehm, being rejected usually offends me. There’s other stuff, I just can’t rattle it off the top of my head.
80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?: I’d play my harp. I mean, obvious much? If my hands were tired then I’d probably read.
81. How do you deal with stress?: Sometimes angrily. Sometimes loudly. Sometimes violently. Sometimes by just rattling off scales in my head and calming down.
82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?: Spontaneity can be fun. I’d rather know what I’m doing, but I’m not against making things up on the spot.
83. What are your pet peeves?: People who can’t sing making a big production of themselves. Men going after Yarrow women. Being offered anything with plums in it. I could probably go on for a while.
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.
84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?: This routine’s going to be changing pretty soon, what with my leaving. I do enough different stuff that it would take forever to give you a description of it. I don’t like being idle.
85. What is your greatest strength as a person?: I’m proactive. I like to get things done.
86. What is your greatest weakness?: I sometimes worry that my own ambitions are going to get ahead of me and take me places I don't want to be, but I usually dismiss the thought as a side-effect of PMS. Also, I can be too forceful sometimes in getting my way with things.
87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?: I’d be able to fly.
88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?: Oh, way extroverted. I’d rather be with people than alone most of the time, even if it’s just a quiet evening with one other person, like Mom or something. I can have fun by myself, but I prefer being around other people.
89. Are you generally organized or messy?: Organized, for the most part? Messes annoy me. It just looks sloppy and I have to go and fix it. I mean, I’m not anal about little things like papers on a desk or a rumpled bed, but I’d rather have things clean and tidy if I can.
90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at: I’m good at speaking my mind, playing the harp, and dancing. I have a really hard time conceding defeat with any kind of grace, dealing with stupid people, and waiting.
91. Do you like yourself?: Yeah, I do.
92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons...): I want to go into politics to make a difference. I know there’s a lot of work to be done, and I want to be part of it. I’ve got plenty of ideas on how things should be done and if I’m not helping to make it happen then who’s ever going to know about them?
93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?: I want to be the Queen of Spades. I would love to be deemed good enough with my harp to merit a solo performance near the top of the Villa cliffs someday. I don't know if I'll ever get there, but it would be a dream come true.
94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?: I see myself in the palace of Spades. Doing what... now that's the big question. I'm going, though.
95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?: Without pain? Doesn’t everybody sort of want that? I’d rather die for a reason than just... die. If I had to pick a way, though, I’d go over the edge of the Villa cliffs. It’s probably the closest I’d ever get to flying.
96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left: Say goodbye to my Mom and tell her I love her, rush around like an idiot to get my affairs in order, and maybe jump off the Villa cliffs. Just because I think that would be an amazing way to die.
97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?: Making a difference. Being a person who moved and changed things.
98. What three words best describe your personality?: Determined, outgoing, and challenging. Take that last one however you’d like.
99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?: Big, hairy, and purple? *snort*
100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice...): Take it easy. It’s okay to slow down a little every now and then. It’s okay to be wrong every now and then.
