He became uncomfortable with the nearness the canine had created between the two. The next few words caused that discomfort to rise, extremely. Staring into her eyes, watching them glint strangely, he was caught in his own mind.
A smiling face appeared before his eyes. A face that was too familiar for comfort. She could not be here . . . he had not thought of her in years . . . He tried to close his eyes, to block out the memories but he could not. More came to mind.
This time tears ran down her face as she contorted on the floor. Her night horrors were haunting her again. She never found any peace, not when –she- was around. –Never- when –she- was around . . . Slowly the face became paler, the eyes more glazed.
He tried to call out, to no avail.
He remembered the pain; the feelings of the world swimming, his stomach gave into dry heaves. His begging and pleading gave no avail. He remembered the first time that he had awaked with the horns, his –mutant- horns. The pain, discomfit, even the agonizing horror.
A face now came to mind. A face he hoped to never see again in his life. A face he had only seen this last winter.
Real tears ran down his face. This was his fear. This was his reality.

The tears made her smile a little, not unsympathetically, and she pat his shoulder in a comforting manner. He couldn't even respond verbally, hmm? It was so interesting how many people were frightened of their parents... though his memories with regards to that were certainly quite terrifying. The King stepped back and closed her eyes, one hand still resting on his shoulder in both a comforting and restricting gesture.
When she opened them, her eyes almost glowed and she pat his fur once more. "Poor little mousey," she murmured, stepping back. "Vell, at least now I know vhere the boldness comes from. Vhy don't you turn around and greet my other guest, then, if you are such a brave and ambitious thing? I'm sure she vishes to greet you."
Behind him, should he turn, he would see a Corvistowne and Morganberry mix. Her long, sinuous otter's body was oddly reminiscent of his own form, the lithe build echoing her own for all that they were of different breeds. She fiddled with a small vial in one hand, full of a suspiciously white powder, and looked up in surprise when his eyes landed on her. Then she smiled, eyes narrowing in either pleasure or threat. "Aderlass! My, but I didn't expect to see you here. Didn't you learn from your father's example? Running away to the Courts accomplishes nothing."

The words brought a chill down his spine. This could not be . . .
Tears drying on his face he turned around slowly, hesitant the instant that his eyes would land on who stood behind him. Eyes widening in fear they landed on the too familiar form. There was no way she was here. No matter how much he tried this Corvistowne and Morganberry mix female always haunted him; him and his past.
He had mostly been able to avoid her this winter; this might be too much for him.
“I am -nothing- like my father.” He retorted, offended that it would even be suggested and fighting off his growing fear that threatened to choke him. Gripping his cane till his hands almost bled, trying to ground himself a reality – regardless if it was true or not – he continued in a cold voice, “I am not running away, nor have I ever.” His voice got slightly higher as he spoke. Noticing it he glanced away trying to calm himself down.
He had left her back in Morganberry with his coward ass of a brother and with his past. He was not running away . . . No he was making changes. He would create a difference for those who should not have to suffer. He would not fool himself in his plans but he might over shoot.
Clenching and unclenching his hand he wanted her gone. “You had better get out of my sight. Now. If you want to keep that precious skin of yours.” He aimed the comment towards the whole room, giving warning.

The otter looked taken aback at his words, her bright yellow eyebrows drawing down in a scowl. "That's no way to address your mother," she reprimanded coldly, stepping forward to be nearer him. She seemed to loom oddly, almost distorted in her strangeness. "Even if you knew your bastard father, which you didn't... who knows. Perhaps you'll meet him here, in this glitzy place. You so obviously want the same things in life. Will you leave friends and family too, now that you're after 'real power'?"
The vial in her hand took prominence as she brought it up and shook it near his face. "Especially not when I have a present for you," she added with a touch of grim satisfaction. The powder swirled in its vial with the movement and, perhaps only in his mind or perhaps in reality, a tiny face appeared in its depths, screaming before it swirled out of sight.
"Surely you remember what little Layne was given, what made her oh-so-pretty and adorable before she decided to go and have a fit. I've been perfecting it, you know. Perhaps it's ready for another trial. What do you say, my dear boy? Will you let your mother have another go?"

“You gave up being a mother to us the moment you stopped loving us.” He said through clenched teeth. He was –never- claiming this woman as his mother. She might have given birth to him, a pleasure he surly doubted she had ‘enjoyed’, but she had -never- been a mother.
“I do not have to meet father to know him for the coward he was in leaving me and my . . .” He broke off with an almost choke. Shaking his head he quickly recovered though it was obvious that he was shaken more then he appeared. “I will –never- leave my friends, nor my – ” He cut himself off, afraid of what he had almost said. He would not willingly give this woman anchorage over him. He would not offer a victim like he had once been.
Closing his eyes he tried to focus on a goal, a mind set.
He was interrupted, however with her words of a present. Peeking out of them through narrowed slits he glared at her as she presented to him the vial. Well, that was until he saw the face. Eyes widening in horror he listened to her words, shaking his head in disbelief.
There was no way . . .
Something snapped inside of him. She had been a victim, a tool, an experiment.
“There is no way that a b###h like you would know what she went through! Layne had done –nothing- wrong. She was a –victim-, a –victim, that –you- used in your own gain. You killed your own daughter. You are worse then my father, no matter how much of a coward he might be. I do not want your ### gift,” seeing red, he reacted on instinct, lunging out at her with his bare hands, cane forgotten on the floor.

His mother's wide-eyed face was the last thing he saw - before opening his eyes at the sound of a cane dropping. He stood in exactly the same place he had stood when Anoushka had first pat his shoulder and spoken to him, no doubt what seemed like forever ago. There was no mother, no vial, and he had not moved even an inch from that spot.
She stood in front of him still, her eyes bright but no longer glowing as intently as she had before. She was also grinning, teeth bared, tail wagging. "Brilliant, my little mouse, absolutely brilliant! There is spunk in you yet, I see. And here you vere trying so hard to hide it from me, playing the silly little dandy vith a cane and a fluffy hat. Ah, that vas a treat to vatch..."
Stepping back and laughing a little, she brushed down her fur a bit and looked to him with a pleased expression. "For all that you still have much to deal vith, you are coming along nicely. Perhaps this vill make you think on a few things, hmm? Your fears vill alvays come to find you in the end if you leave them unchecked. Sometimes... you just have to lunge at their throats and rip your vay to sanity." She grinned again, toying with one of her bindings.

Blinking his eyes, he stood there confused and bewildered. After a few more blinks reality came back, hard. It had been . . . ?
Feeling the dried tears on his face he straightened. Turning away from the canine he quickly wiped at the tears that stained his fur, a little distraught at being caught in his deepest thoughts and fears – no matter what her power might have been. Catching his breath, he found himself as calm as he was going to get over the situation that had just happened.
Who was he kidding, he was royally pissed.
At her comment "For all that you still have much to deal vith, you are coming along nicely. Perhaps this vill make you think on a few things, hmm? Your fears vill alvays come to find you in the end if you leave them unchecked. Sometimes... you just have to lunge at their throats and rip your vay to sanity." He felt as if she was both giving good advice for the distant future as well as other things to come. He was not sure which he wanted to thank her for more.
Turning back to the canine he addressed her, hoping he kept his anger under wraps, “Do you mind explaining to me just what happened there?”

Anoushka watched him regain some measure of composure, colorful tail still wagging slightly in excitement. She loved it when they lost themselves like that to the power. Pity he was a little vermin, else she might have been more eager in other ways to have him in the Court, but still. He was quite the interesting fellow.
"You just succeeded in your quest, little mouse!" she exclaimed, laughing a little. "Met your fears, faced them down, and even lunged for them in retaliation for past wrongs. Aren't you a fiesty thing? I look forvard to dealing vith you in the future. So." Leaving the greater part of his question unanswered, she leaned forward and place her hand across his left breast, the touch feeling extremely warm for a moment before she pulled away. There, against his fur, there was no longer a number. Now he bore a letter of the nobility, a dark 'J' standing out boldly against his vivid fur.
She crossed her arms and smiled, looking him up and down. "You and Gabriel may get along, vhat vith your silly cane affectations and all that posturing. Perhaps you should endeavor to make his acquaintance at some point. But hold a moment, yes?" Turning and moving away, she left through another door, presumably to a less public personal room, and returned with a small ring of keys. "Ve must assign you a room befitting your rank, should a Court position be your interest. Vell? Vhat say you, Your Excellence?"
((One more post from you with his response should be sufficient to end this. <3 She isn't going to answer much more than that at this time.))

That was it? He stared at her for a moment. That had been . . . oddly easy.
When she placed her hand over his chest he was surprised at the warm feeling he received, and when she pulled away he glanced down to see that where his Ten used to lie now stood a J. He gave a crooked smile at the canine.
Watching as she exited through a door, he pondered over what she had said. This Gabriel that she mentioned seemed like an interesting person, he made a mental note to check them out.
She returned shortly with a small ring of keys, asking if he should want to enter a Court position. Taken back a little at the new title of ‘Your Excellence’ he was a little slow to respond.
“A Court position would be lovely, Your Highness.” He replied with a slight bow as he accepted the keys.
Everything had taken a turn and he was feeling off balance but very glad to have the whole event over.
