The holidays were over, his exciting adventures were over he was some what relieved to say, and his gallery shop was all but opened. And thus it was time to get back to his goals and the main, other, reason he had come to the Capital.
He walked down the path in bipedal form his Tove floating next to him. It made soft chirping noises as if it was telling him something which he could only imagine to be something close to: ‘Oh! Look, look, look! There, there. You see it? You see it? It’s a TREE!’ Nodding his head at it whenever it seemed it asked a question, he found himself stopping every now and then to call it back to him.
He had sent a letter the other week to inform Her Highness Anoushka of his wanting to have a meeting, of which he now had his reply of an acceptance letter. He had sorely been tempted to just go to the court and demand the meeting but he figured that might not be the best choice.
Making his way up to the gates of the Court he was taken aback by the grandeur, wow.

One of the guards standing at the gates, a Selkie tomcat Six of Clubs with an odd fro-like mane, noticed Aderlass and offered a friendly wave. He looked like a first-time visitor, what with how closely he took in the palace and looks. Maybe this was his first trip to any Court? "Hey there, sir, and welcome to the Palace of Clubs. Would you mind stating your business within its walls? Just here for sight-seeing, or do you have business with one of the residents?"
The questions weren't posed in any way threateningly, seeming more like routine. Behind the gate, people went about their business, most of them quite noticeably Clubs of many different ranks. This Court wasn't as strict in its ranking attitudes as some of the others, at least not under its current leadership.

He had never imagined the palace being this . . . beautiful honestly. It was to be expected he was sure but there was a distinct difference between expecting and seeing. This was the first Court that he had ever been to and it was looking like he had missed out on a lot more then he had anticipated.
So entranced was he, that he nearly jumped and squeaked when one of the guards addressed him. Thankful that the man was offering help, though it was probably his job, he quickly regained his composure and replied “I have an appointment to see Her Highness Anoushka.” He showed the guard his letter.
He had not heard much about those who were in the Court of the Clubs, no matter how much he asked around, so he was not sure what to expect. He was hoping that all of this would go smoothly. Oddly enough he was feeling a little nervous and unsure about what was to come.

The feline accepted his letter with a smile and looked it over, nodding slowly before he handed it back. "Here for your Jack's ranking then, sir? Can't say as I blame you. It's a desirable position and I know we're in need of a few at the moment, so if you're actually looking to take up a spot in the court, you couldn't have picked a better time. Her Highness is right this way, if you'll just follow me. "
Leaving his post to his companion, a canine who gave the pair of them a nod as they passed, the Lakelander led Aderlass up to the sand-colored building. The blocks that went into its construction were absolutely massive when seen up close, and the structure was quite large. It went wider rather than taller and took up more groundspace than, say, the Palaces of Diamonds - or even of Hearts. That Court was larger for its sprawling gardens, though.
Through the main gate and into the main building they walked, the guard pointing out small things along the way. He seemed a talkative fellow. Eventually they arrived at a large wooden door, stained the official shade of brown that the suit preferred and decorated with beautifully carved motifs of the suit's crest and several local animals. He rapped smartly on the door, ears perked for a response they received. "Aderlass, your Highness, here by appointment. Shall I let him in?" Another affirmative and the guard opened the door, motioning him forward with a bow.

Receiving his papers back from the guard he proceeded to follow him, Juris floating after them. As he was led up to a sand-colored building he looked around in surprise. Everything seemed to be extremely large especially to the mouse – who even in mouse form was small compared to the stones.
Though he had never been to any of the courts, the wide building was larger then he had imagined it would be. Following the feline through the main gate and into the main building he listened as the guard pointed out small things along the way. His guard seemed to be a really talkative fellow . . . that or he talked so much because he was bored. Either way the mouse did not mind all that much, this time, because he was able to get useful information from him.
Arriving at a large wooden door, stained the official shade of brown that the suit preferred and decorated with beautifully carved motifs of the suit's crest and several local animals, he watched as the guard rapped his knuckles on the door. When the guard announced "Aderlass, your Highness, here by appointment. Shall I let him in?" he felt his pulse quicken. Why was he so nervous?
When the guard motioned him forward with a bow, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, he entered the hall and into the unknown.

The antechamber within was sparsely decorated, much more minimal than would be expected of a King's room, much less the King's private quarters. Yellows and golds seemed to be the predominant color used to decorate, with rich wood tones on what furniture there was. There were no pictures on the walls at all, but a large bay window overlooked the gates and road to the front of the palace. Lounging on one of the wooden benches with gold cushions near the center of the room, one of two next to a table, was an elegant canine. Her large, bushy tail and the pads of her paws, not to mention her brightly amused eyes, were all a burnished gold. Anyone who knew anything about the Torquehelm region would recognize this as being truly bizarre. Even more noticeable was the lack of snowy white wings on her back. She grinned toothily at the vermin, showing her fangs in an expression meant to be welcoming, intimidating, or both. "Ahh, greetings my little mouse. King Anoushka, at your service. And vhat brings you to my attentions today, hmm? Your note mentioned something about a vish, a desire, to join the ranks of the nobility. Vould that be correct? Are you ready for the trials and tribulations that all ambitious ones must be going through?"

Walking into the antechamber he was met by a color arrangement of yellows, golds, and rich earth tones. Within the colorful arrangement he came across a canine, who he assumed to be Her Highness Anoushka, moving forward some he made a deep bow, swinging his arm out gracefully in a practiced manner. He had taken note of her smile and oddly enough he was reminded of himself some in that one gesture.
“It is an honor to finally meet you, Your Highness.” He remained in the bowing position, steadying himself on the cane, waiting for her to allow him back up. “I do indeed come to see you today with the wish of being able to join the ranks of nobility, as I hope it might also be your desire. As for the trials and tribulations that you will set before me, I am more then ready to face them.”
He really hoped she would let him up soon, though the floor did have a nice design. He wondered if the canine had chosen it for this purpose.

Anoushka snorted in amusement, taking note of the bow and the bold words. He was an interesting one, that was for certain, what with his gloves and his cane. Just look at that hat. Ego shone through in every motion, from the grasp on his cane to the sweeping bow. "Vell, quite confident. Very good. No need to hold an uncomfortable position. Such a thing is alvays appealing in a potential colleague, even if you vill only be a Jack should you make it through this little test of mine. A mouse... how amusing. Ve haven't had von of your breed here in quite some time. Hopefully none of the cats vill get you."
Slowly standing and flipping her legs around, the better to accommodate her bindings while walking rather than lounging, she approached and eyed him intently. "I generally prefer von of two methods in testing. Tell me now... vould you consider yourself to be a mighty mouse, or vould something a little less... physical... suit you better? Hmm?" Her eyes gleamed in amusement. Waiting.

Rising from the bow at the canine’s permission, he smiled at her compliments-of-sorts. The idea of his self being chased by a cat amused him, and he was almost tempted to make a comment but he was not sure how the canine would take it. Deciding that silence was golden he kept his mouth shut and watched her closely.
Silently he made note of her bindings, he wondered how she got around, though apparently from the way that she moved she had found a way to deal with them.
When she presented her two choices, one apparently physical and the other ‘something a little less . . . physical’ he was not sure at first which one to chose. He was not the fittest little creature – though he knew out how to use his abilities to his advantage, however, at the same time he was not necessarily the smartest – or at least in being book smart. Contemplating his options and abilities he finally decided that he would go with the one that seemed to fit his abilities to the best.
“Do not get me wrong, but I do not think the title ‘mighty’ fits me. There fore, if it pleases you, I believe that I will go with the little less physical choice, Your Highness.”

Grinning once more, teeth bared, this gesture was most certainly meant to be more intimidating. "Ahh, I see. Perhaps I had expected as much from a little mouse. That is fine, though. Not everyone is able to demonstrate as much physical prowess as myself and my Qveen. So you forgo the natural magical gifts granted to us and choose the unknown. Just fine."
She leaned in close, her fur ruffled and her eyes taking on even more of a gleam. In fact... they did seemed to shine a little oddly in the light, beyond her interest and nearness. Narrowing them, she stared directly into his face, far too close for comfort, and watched him intently. "Tell me, vhy don't you," she growled, "vhat it is that vorries you most in this vorld. Vhat scares you, little mouse?"
Something about the way she spoke, the way she stood, it would compel Aderlass to answer the question in complete truthfulness.
