The hut of the local witch doctor always was a rank, trashy place. It was a place cluttered with much more than the typical ancestral remains that one would expect to find. As she had grown older, she'd taken to collecting... just anything. There had been much suspicion that this was a sign that she was losing her mind. Frankly, that suspicion was right. She'd lived longer than she should have anyways, and it hadn't been a surprise to anyone when she died.
Yeah... she was dead alright, and all that remained was an empty house. As was appropriate, the house was completely cleaned out and her belongings were divided between her family. It seemed... so empty and big now. When Zuberi had seen it as a child, it had always looked as if there was hardly enough room to stand in it, much less comfortably reside in it. Now though, it was empty space that needed to be filled.
"I thought you said you'd never come back to this house." No matter how accusatory the words could have been, they were softened by the chuckle of a voice Zuberi knew well.
"Don't give me that look. This isn't necessarily of my own will." The smirk that lingered between the two Midori spoke much of the mutual understanding between the two people.
The masculine figure that stood in the doorway ran his hand through his vibrant pink dreds, the felinoid mouth of the fishing cat/seagull mixed breed curling into a good-natured grin. He was bipedal.. one of the few people in the family that has sought to acquire it. "I find it hard to believe you'd be pushed to do anything you don't want to do..." His grin faded when he saw the look in his daughter's eyes. "Zub... what happened in Capital City that made you come back?"
Zuberi rubbed her hands together absently.. a tic that her father had never witnessed her do. It worried him deeply. Even with her anger issues as a child, she's rarely if ever exhibited obsessive or worrisome habits.
"I... got myself in a bit of trouble. Things... started happening. I started..." Zuberi wrung her hands so hard that the joints popped."I... -hurt- people, papa... they were -bad- people.. but... it's not how I would have wanted this to come about."
"...This?" Ranek advanced another step, reaching out a clawed hand to put on the quadruped's shoulder but she moved away.
"It's HER, papa! It all started when she died! I.. I... Can't control this.. it just -happens-. I.. I didn't want this."
To think that what that old bat of a woman had said was true... Ranek hadn't believed the crock of shit that woman had spilled out of her mouth no matter how adamant his wife was about upholding tradition. She often failed to realize that he hadn't been born here, and didn't feel the need to get.. rooted down by ignorance and fear. "We can get you help in the city.. the courts! There's a way to -fix- this..."
But Zuberi was shaking her head... not sad but in a matter-of-fact way. "No... I don't think that I'm going to be able to run from it any more, papa. That's what I've been doing and every time I get away.. something happens to pull me back. I don't know what sort of.. damage I'll do if I don't just..."
"Don't what? Stay in some dusty old hut and go damn CRAZY like she did? I wanted -better- for you, Zuberi!" This time he wouldn't let her tear away from him as he grabbed the smaller creature by the shoulders, forcing her to look at him. "Come with me to the city... we'll talk to their doctors. Hell, we'll talk to their mages if we have to!"
She hated his biped form sometimes, or rather, the lack of having one herself. No matter how old she got, she'd always feel like a child beside him in this form. Still, Zuberi wouldn't just smile and agree. Her father was a good man, but he didn't understand. He didn't understand anything about this village. "No.. I nearly -killed- a man, papa! I -have- to see this through. It's the only way that things can be set right.."
"Zuberi!"
He wouldn't stop. He'd never stop. Always, he had been on her side, shielding her from her mother's fury when she wanted to move out of the village. He'd.. always wanted her to make something of herself. It was understandable to the rational mind that he'd be upset that she'd given up on that, but Zuberi was not in a rational mood. No, she was still just a child at heart, and a child that was hurt and upset that her father would not support her when she -knew- when something needed to be done. Angry, she pushed the much larger card away, one webbed claw pointing toward the door. "Just GET OUT!"
((I.. think this might be crappy, but I'm too tired to know XD I need to go to sleep.))
