Pravus moved somewhat unsurely down the corridor, a burden resting heavily upon his mind. He stalked forwards in bipedal form, human form just wasn't comfortable anymore, not with . . this. He looked down, past the silver tray and yellow teapot he was carrying to the bulge. He grimaced a bit, what an eyesore. It had been a while before he noticed but he was definitely pregnant, and he had to tell his Queen. Honestly he wondered if the Queen had already noticed, it had been almost two weeks now since the last time Fino had been seen in the torture chamber. Was he being avoided? SIGH. He entered the antechamber and moved to the bedroom door. Pravus stood there for a minute, nervous to knock but now was the time. Fino always seemed to be more. . accepting in the mornings, softer somehow. He had to use that to his advantage. His pale furred hand raised to knock at the bedroom door.

Serafino's eyes slitted open to the sound of knocking, feathers rustling as he shifted and sighed. It felt early, as if the sun had only just begun to rise. A quick glance at the curtains confirmed his guess. Then why was he awake? A brief yawn distracted him, and then he remembered what had woken him. Yes, someone was knocking at his door. He stood and stepped down from bed, yawning again as he transformed into a human. Awake... but not really 'awake' yet. That took time and a cup of tea. Hopefully whoever stood at his door wouldn't require his mind to unfuzz completely. He answered the door with a neutral expression, letting it shift back to tired when he saw who stood outside. Damn it. At least he'd brought tea... With a small sigh, the Queen nodded and brushed past Pravus, moving towards the long couch in the antechamber. He laid down, head against the arm of the couch with the small table nearby, and waited. Yes, he knew the feline was pregnant. He wouldn't be carrying weight like that otherwise, not with his back. And yes. He had certainly been avoiding him.

Pravus couldn't help but feel a little. . miffed. His Queen had honestly sighed when he saw him standing there with tea, and the brush was not a personal touch. He realized, with a start, that the Queen hadn't really touched him in about 2 weeks. Was it because of this, did Serafino already know what was going on within Pravus' belly?/
He followed the Queen and sat in the plush chair beside the couch, unfortunately that left Fino firmly staring in the opposite direction of him. A small hurt feeling started in his chest, was it really this awful to look at him? Did it really both his Queen this much just to be in the same room?
"Tea?" He asked quietly. "It's citrus."
His hand stayed poised on the table beside him, ready to pour a cup. Pravus kept his eyes down on the floor, had he screwed up in some way? Or was this really all because of the pregnancy.
"I'm. . I'm not sure if you already know my Majesty but . . I'm pregnant, they're yours."

"Yes, tea would be welcome," Fino agreed in a tired murmur, closing his eyes as he heard the hot liquid being poured. At least the feline had brought tea if they were going to have a serious talk this morning. He accepts the proffered cup with one hand, carefully maneuvering it in front of him without having to change his posture or face anything but the wall and the window. He didn't want to look and see visual confirmation of what he already knew.
At the words, however, his other arm shifted back to rest on the arm of the chair in which Pravus was sitting. He doesn't touch the feline, but it's an affectionate gesture nonetheless from the Queen, who usually didn't bother with such things. He was still muzzy from sleep and 'allowing' himself to relax into the cushions. He didn't have to wake up to full blast until the sun rose higher in the sky and he could no longer ignore the day. Right now, in familiar if awkward company, he just... didn't have to. He felt so tired, and a small pit of worry gnawed in his gut, which he firmly told to take a hike. If only it listened so well.
He sighed again, taking a sip of the steaming tea. "Yes, kitten. I've known about it for perhaps two weeks now, ever since you got back from your little... trip. Your spine makes the bulge rather obvious. I'm just not sure what to do about it." Another sip, then he closed his eyes again. "If I thought they were anyone else's... I wouldn't have waited for you to confront me."

Pravus nodded perhaps a little numble and poured the cup for Fino, passing it over carefully so none would slosh and scorch his Queen. His hands sat quietly in his lap, fiddling, nervous. But that hand so gently laid upon the arm of his chair made him feel immensely better. He wouldn't touch that hand, as the kind gesture would probably be taken away if he did.
A small sigh of released nerves escaped his lips. "Neither am I . . " He said quietly.
"My Queen. . I'll do anything you wish. Just let me know what you want me to do, and it will be done." He said with complete sincerity. If the Queen asked him to cut them from his stomach he would. Pravus looked down at the protuberance that seemed to be causing so much angst. Anything, to make his Queen happy. He just wasn't sure what to do, or how to do it.

This whole situation reminded him unpleasantly of the last pregnancy he had 'dealt with' what seemed like ages ago. He'd been so careful in his choices, handled the whole thing in as detached a manner as he could, but in the end it ended far worse than he could ever have imagined. The boy's face, so hesitant and hopeful, and his mind had just begun to allow the briefest shreds of acceptance and perhaps even a chance for affection... only to have them obliterated by the inky black stain on the child's breast.
A Four of Clubs, Torquehelm, and human no less. It made him wonder if the superstitions were true in that regard, if running across the path of a low-ranking human really did preclude a string of bad luck. It certainly had for Lysaras, he'd made sure of that. But what about him? Was George's deficiency, his complete lack of worthiness, somehow not completely the fault of his mother?
"I sired a litter once before, you know," he finally said in a quiet voice. "Seeing the result was one of the greatest disappointments I can consciously recall. And while I know that it had to be completely the fault of its mother, who I should have seen as unfit and unworthy to bear my child, some part of me has always wondered. What if... it wasn't? What if, somehow, something about me caused that pathetic thing to come about? And what if such a thing should happen again?"

Pravus sat quietly, hoping his Queen would say something. However when Fino did Pravus froze. His muscles stiffening and going quiet. He was so still he could have disappeared and perhaps, that was what he was trying to do, but no. How could anything, make his Queen worry about something like that?
How could his Queen wonder? He nearly growled, his teeth bearing from his white fur as he tried to control himself.
"Whatever it was that bore your children it was obviously /its/ fault. You can't honestly believe you could make anything less than perfect? A Queen of Hearts nearly born to the position. Highlander no less! The mother was obviously disgustingly bred and wasn't worthy of your bed or your time. . . I'll set it right if you want me to. I'll hunt them both down."
He didn't even have to consider the question. "If they are not worthy I'll kill them myself."

Fino's lip twitched in the ghost of a smile, the fingers of his hand curling in the air by Pravus as he took another sip of tea. The warm liquid and the growled reassurances both served to make him feel a bit better. He'd never bothered sharing these stupidly angst-ridden thoughts with anyone, not even his uncle. The whole topic of that ordeal, what with the murdered Spade King, was a touchy subject anyhow.
"It was so far below perfect that I could barely believe it," he reflected, sipping at the citrus and sighing. "A... Four. If you can possibly believe that. A human Four. Of Clubs. And his mother's unworthy region. I should have known better, truly. I would rather you not pursue her, though. A Queen is dangerous prey even for you, especially with an entire palace to back her. Hopefully she killed the disgusting thing herself and saved us the trouble."
He sat up and turned, slowly settling himself so that he could look just over the edge of the couch's arm at Pravus. "And if this batch survives to birth... and they are unworthy... I will take up up on that offer. And make you eat them." Another sip of tea and a slight smile accompany his words.

Pravus listened with a disgusted snort now and again. "Clearly the mother's fault. Filth. . Unfortunate that I can't really help much though." He says with regret. He was working on abilities and eventually. Eventually he'd be able to protect his Queen from anything, even if it was an entirely other court.
He smirked a little, a vision of him fighting off hundreds without effort flashing through his mind. Amusing, though unrealistic. "Eventually I'll be strong enough." He said quietly, more to himself than to his Queen.
Pravus sneered with laughter after his Queen had finished speaking. Eat them? That was an interesting idea, and not altogether horrible. He did tend to add blood to his tea afterall.
"Gladly my Queen." He said, absolute sincerity tinting his voice. "I will do whatever you wish, whenever you wish. I'd cut them out myself if that's what you willed."

Fino's smile widened slightly and he shook his head, eyes betraying amusement and something else, more shadowy, beneath the surface. "No, that won't be necessary. There are less hazardous ways to deal with such things. If this whole... condition was truly unwanted, I would take you to see him myself. But I don't think it is, however distasteful I find it personally. I... need an heir, still. And I can think of no one more suitable than you to provide me with one, my Shadow."
He sat up slowly and sighed, pulling his hair back and away from his face before leaning forward to pour himself another cup of tea. The first had disappeared already. "You have perhaps heard my opinion on pregnant women spoken before. It is not something that will change, regardless of who is carrying the burden. But when this is through, we will take more care and ensure that this never happens again."
