Chai hissed a little bit at being lumped under the category 'young children'. "I am eleven, thank you very much," she said with a touch of growl in her voice, as if that statement should make quite the difference to him. After all, it wasn't like she was some six-year-old baby. She was eleven!
"I'll just stay with the tea and crumpets," she finally ended up muttering, tucking her 'stubby' little wings closer to herself as she sat up a bit more. She hoped they shriveled up and died in his lab. As if she cared once they were off her back, and she was even getting the added bonus of money on top of it all, for something that she thought she might have to eventually pay someone else to do. It was a pretty sweet set-up. "Just come and get me when you're ready. My 'stubby little wings' can say goodbye to themselves."

Rocky couldn't help but chuckle. Some people couldn't take a joke, children included. "Yes, well, I think I'll say goodbye to my stubby little wings while I'm down sterilizing my lab then." He said with a dismissive wave.
He hurried down the stairs into his lab and started lining things up in their proper places. He washed the operating table twice, the tools three times, and then double checked the light. Yes, everything was et. He smiled as he found his proper operating gear. No need for fur or sweat to get in the wounds. That and he would probably need a magnifying glass.
The great thing about working with someone who was young was that they would heal up faster than most others. He let out a happy squeal before skipping back up the stairs. It had been about thirty or so minutes, a little longer than he expected, but he hardly wanted the girl to get an infection.
"I'm more than ready to operate, I apologize that it took me so terribly long. Do follow me." Rocky said with a flick of his tail. This was such an amazing find wasn't it?

Eating another crumpet and leaning forward to lap lightly at some of the tea, now that he wasn't there to watch her. She didn't care if it was acceptable or not with her being a child. She still found it degrading, to have to lap at her drink instead of sip. But... she just couldn't sip. Not yet. That would come when she got older, she hoped. Older than she was now.
His reappearance had her standing and stretching, back arching and wings fluttering with slight nervousness. She wanted them gone, yes. And she could deal with pain okay. But she'd had no idea she would have to go through the whole thing awake. That would be so... so weird. She couldn't even imagine it.
She didn't let any of that show, or at least she thought she didn't, as she moved to follow him down to his lab. "Yes, that's fine. I just want it finished." She idly noticed his tail. That was an attractive piece, even if the rest of him was just plain freakish. She wouldn't mind something like that someday, if she could ever get the hair to grow longer. So unbelievably poofy...

The raccoon had very little sympathy for the girl. It was her choice after all, and there was no going back now. He tapped on the metal operating table. "I need you to lay on your stomach for the whole operation. If you move you could lose feeling in that part of your back, and possibly you won't be able to walk properly. I can strap you down if you like, but I wouldn't recommend it." The raccoon explained softly as he walked over to the sink at the other end of the large room.
He soaped up his hands thoroughly and shook them off. She snapped the rubber gloves in typical doctor like fashion. He put on all his proper sterilized gear and returned to her side. "I need to shave the area around your wings so we don't get fur in your wounds. Then I'm going to give you an injection so you won't feel the pain. It should last for the whole operation and if it doesn't speak up."
The raccoon raised an eyebrow and waited for the girl to make the proper responses. She was going to go through with it right?

Heeding his instructions warily, Chai hopped up on the operating table and carefully laid down so that all of her feet were comfortably settled. She didn't want any of them falling asleep and needing to be moved, at least not for a long while. The fact that he was going to make her back and wings 'go to sleep' anyway was unnerving. As was the prospect of shaving.
And didn't he look weird, all suited up. She might have even been frightened of him if he'd answered the door looking like that. "I can hold still," she muttered, lowering her head to rest it on the cool metal surface of the table. "Just do what you're going to do and don't shave off more fur than you have to. I rather like my fur where it is." The tart comment was used to cover up her sudden bout of nerves. She wondered if it worked. She hoped so.
"I'll start hissing at you if it hurts," she finally said, then glanced at him sideways in all the permission he was going to get out of her now.

He smiled under his mask, though she couldn't see it. "All right young lady," he said as he turn on his electric razor. He buzzed cut around the wings carefully, exposing her skin rather nicely. This wasn't going to be that difficult. He had done it several times before.
Rocky picked up the needle filled with the proper solution and counted down from ten. He poked her skin carefully, checking to see if the color was right and so forth. "I'm going to start cutting now," he said as he reached for the knife. With surgical precision he made the first cut.
It seemed to take forever under the hot lights. It took about an hour to properly removed them and sew the wounds back up. All the muscles were properly severed and there were no problems as he placed the wings into ice. He double checked the stitches. "All right. The numbness should wear off after twenty to thirty minutes. I need to tell you the proper dosage of pills you need to take before you go. You're going to feel a dull ache, and possibly the impulse to still flap your now detached wings. That's all very normal."

The sound of the razor made her twitch and her ears went back flat against her skull. She'd never heard that sound before. What a weird, buzzing, worrying sound. If she wasn't already set up to have her back hacked into, she would have probably run at the sound. Was that him cutting? When she saw a patch of fur drop onto the floor she realized that it wasn't and felt quite foolish, and annoyed at feeling that way. So that was the sound of something cutting her fur. What would it sound like when he cut her flesh?
"Fine," she muttered at his warning, the sound slightly sullen. She was still annoyed with herself for being scared by the weird noise. And now he was going to cut her wings off. She took a deep breath, pressed her head against the table, and held as still as she possibly could.
The whole procedure was like a never-ending brightly-lit dream. It was so bizarre, not feeling a thing on her back but knowing he was digging into it with who knew what. At least he really seemed to know what he was doing. She wouldn't have even thought to shave the fur away.
When he finally finished, she slowly shifted and levered herself to a sitting position. It still didn't hurt, but she knew that would change soon enough. How would it feel, trying to flap wings that weren't there? No shifting, no movement, just... nothing. The thought actually made her grin, baring fangs. "Wonderful. Yes, that's just... thank you. I don't care what you do with them, but I'm glad they're gone. Tell me about the medicine and maybe feed me something and I'll be gone."

"I'm so glad you're pleased!" He grinned under his mask. "All right, the instructions are pretty simple. You need to take this pill once in the morning and once in the evening. Simple as that. Don't take more and don't take less." The raccoon said before turning around to clean himself up completely.
Oh what a wonderful day it was. "All the instructions are written on the bottles," he said as he wiped his hands on the towel. "Now, I'll go upstairs and make some dinner. Do you have anything against grilled cheese?"
Rocky began to trot up the stairs. The wings would be on ice, and that should be enough to keep them fresh for up to two hours before he had to prep the tank. It would hardly take him that long His tail twitched happily as he thought about how successful he was going to be. A new and beautiful chance.
He got one of his pans out of the closet. He didn't really care if she didn't like grilled cheeses, he was going to make one for himself anyway.

Chai took the medicine and the carrying pouch he'd provided with them. Thank you no hands. "I'll be sure not to dope up and fall around the house, Mister Rocco," she said with a smirk. She would wear that expression until the medicine started to wear off, probably in about twenty minutes like he said. At least the raccoon seemed to know his drugs? She certainly hoped so, since she would be the one taking them.
"Grilled cheese is... fine, yeah," she agreed, suppressing the urge to shrug. No, no shrugging while her back was trying to heal from the slicing and dicing he'd just finished doing with those thin, shiny knives of his. She followed him carefully up the stairs, not wanting to move so quickly while she couldn't feel anything. "So I guess I take some of the pills after I eat this and the numb starts to wear off, or what?"
She moved to sit at his table, tail twitching and flicking irritably. She really was hungry, though normally cheese on bread wouldn't appeal to her in the slightest. She preferred meat of any kind, from small birds she caught herself to squirrels to whatever her mother put in front of her on the table. Hunting for herself was usually better, though. Then she didn't have to rely on someone else to eat. She wanted to be independent, badly. This was just one step.

"Three hours after the numbness wears off," Rocky said as gathered the proper supplies. "If you take them right after the numbness wears off you may just fall over dead, and that would be bad for you wouldn't it?"
It didn't take long for Rocky to make several grilled cheese sandwiches. The smile on his face was wide as he set the plate down in front of Chai, taking only one for himself.
After she was finished he gave her one last reminder, and the money pouch that she had left on the table in the sitting room. "You can't take the pills whenever you hurt, just when I've instructed. If you overdose on these at your age a stomach pump won't even help you." Rocky eyed her up and down one last time. She was a snarky little girl, he could only wonder what would happen to her after she left. "Good luck going home. I'll show you out."
