No this was not his idea of pleasant at all. He could here the horrible sound as his head separated from his body. And with the way his head was being held in her hands he could see his body out of the corner of his eye.
He wanted to freak out. Kazifel wanted so desperately to scream and cry over this sudden development. This was even unnatural for him. He looked at her and whimpered. "I'm going to pretend this really isn't happening." He somehow managed to say.
It honestly would be easier that way. He wouldn't have to remember the shock of seeing his body without his head attached. It was an experience that many cold never have, and probably never wanted to have. It was not what he would call fun. Not at all. This was as far from okay as he could ever imagine. Why did things have to be broken more before they were fixed?

Femi cuddled him close to her chest for a moment, petting his hair, before she moved away from his body and placed his head oh-so-gently on the bed. It was facing away from his body at his request, though she rather thought she'd like to see someone painting her own body. Make sure they did a good job and all that. Besides, wouldn't it be kind of neat? Apparently not for him. At least he couldn't feel her touching a body and feel the covers against his head at the same time.
"Pretend you're dreaming?" she asked hopefully, petting his hair once more before moving away. It was time to start priming, and she could get it all in one go now! Paint fumes filled the air as she opened her bucket, grasped her brush, and began.
It took up the entire morning, making sure everything was covered and it didn't seep into his joints unnecessarily. She had to be oh-so-careful with them. Still, after his entire body was covered in a thick coat of white, right down to his little wooden toes, she breathed a sigh of relief and moved away from all the paint. Right towards more. It was time to mix his skin tone.
That process was long, tedious, and altogether frustrating. Each little test swatch had to dry before she could determine that no, it wasn't quite right yet. At least all of the testing and additions were going to leave her with a nice big batch. It seemed like forever when one seemed right and she wanted to flop back in relief, except the area was cluttered with supplies and paint and that just wouldn't be a good idea with her nice white fur, grimy as it was from lack of bath. She moved over to Kazifel's head on the bed and coughed a little to get his attention. "Darling? Would you mind telling me if this color is right for you? I've been working on it... and if it isn't, I can go and fiddle with it some more, and if it is then I can prime your face and we can just wait for all of it to dry before bedtime."

He had closed his eyes for the majority of the work. He honestly tired to think of other things. But he heard all of the effort and hard work that was going into his body and he couldn't help but be curious. Not like he could look though, he wasn't sure he would want to look.
Then, from what he gathered, she mixed paint. Finding the right color sounded difficult with the unsatisfied sounds that she kept on making. Kazifel tried to remind himself that she knew what she was doing. She had obviously done this so many times before. So many times, he was just an actual living doll.
He opened her eyes at her request, his eye was even too stressed to twitch. He looked at the color, it seemed perfect. If it was actually different than his original skin tone he certainly couldn't tell. "It's perfect!" he said as cheerily as he could muster.
Priming his face wouldn't be fun. No. He didn't look forward to that.

Femi beamed, a little bit of paint smudged over her cheeks making it look odd against the stark white. She heard the cheery and she would focus on the cheery. Even if he wasn't exactly cheery, he was still pretending, which meant just as much. "Oh good! I'd so been hoping. Getting skin tones is one of the trickiest things, you know. Whoever mixed up your original batch really knew what they were doing. It was an excellent hue. Too bad they didn't seal it like I'm going to. Then it would have lasted for years and years and years longer."
She hummed happily to herself and moved away, putting a large board over the top of the container in which she'd mixed the paint. It didn't have a proper lid, so that would have to do. Then she returned to the bed where his head rested and pet his forehead before picking it up. She very carefully kept it pointed away from his body, remembering his unease earlier.
Once she was sitting down and settled, with his head balanced very carefully on her lap and his hair tucked far away, she gave him a few instructions. "I'm going to need you to close your eyes for the whole time I'm doing this and try to keep your expression as even as possible. Your eyes are just beautiful, love, and they don't need any work at all, but everything else is going to take a really delicate touch. I don't want to accidentally smudge anything or get paint inside your mouth or something icky like that. Blinking would be straight out. Okay?"

So. Very. Awkward. He watched to twitch in protest, but he really couldn't. Cassiel had known how to mix skin tone because of his earlier efforts with dolls. She would do the priming and paint and he would do the details. That was the only way it could work when he took on a doll as a project. A doll like Mili... the fur had been hell to put on.
He shoved that memory aside. No, he didn't need that. Kazifel listened intently to the instructions she gave him. Sitting still was something he could do rather easily. He had done it for quite sometime when he was 'asleep' in Cassiel's workshop. Comatose was probably the proper word. It had taken paint cans, other falling things, and a raccoon to wake him. Even then he was a bit fuzzy on the details.
"All right," he said in conformation as he closed his eyes to comply with her will. He wanted to be perfect just for her. He would do whatever it took.

Had Femi been able to read his mind just there, she probably would have melted on the spot and snuggled him and called him all sorts of sickeningly sweet pet names, meaning every word. Instead she just smiled and dabbled her small brush in the primer before setting to work. She wanted to finish in time for the eight hour drying period to be over and done with by bed time. It was already after midday if the sunlight streaming in through the window told her anything and she had to work quickly while still being very careful. She didn't want to sacrifice sleeping in his arms, but she also refused to rush and mess something up, even in this early priming stage. It was tricky enough working around his hairline and eyes and nose and the like.
She finished in the middle of the afternoon and sighed, her legs cramping from their held position. She didn't have anything the right size to keep Kazifel's head from tilting and smearing the paint, though, and so it had to be her legs. Until nearly midnight. She sighed a little and scooted back until she could rest against a wall, easing the ache on her back somewhat.
"You'll just need to stay like that until it soaks into the wood and dries, dearest," she murmured, flexing her fingers. The care she had to take in keeping a straight edge made them cramp in funny ways. It would be even worse when she actually went to paint his face and work on detailing, but by then his entire body would be its proper shade and she could brush up his features a little before moving on to his beautiful, exquisitely handsome face. Imagining it and what exactly she would need to do kept her mind occupied, interspersed with humming and staring at the wall blankly, until darkness fell. She didn't even dare to get up and light a candle, so by the time she spoke again, the room was lit only faintly by the moonlight glancing in through the window.
"You can open your eyes now," she whispered tiredly, standing up with a groan as her legs attacked with pins and needles and other sharp things. Walking over to his body, she placed his head very carefully on top of it and closed her eyes again, calling on a wisp of magic to mend the break. It would have to be done over again tomorrow, but at least he would be able to hold her tonight, wholly himself. If all white except for his wings, eyes, and hair.

Kazifel felt bad. This must have been hard on her. There was no way holding his head in the same position all this time was comfortable for her. He couldn't really imagine the pain or discomfort, it had been too long since he felt what it really was.
When she said "You can open your eyes," he kept them closed for a bit longer. He wanted to be sure that his head was securely placed on his body before he opened it. No, he didn't want to deal with the discomfort of not being right. It was broken in a different way.
His eyes slid open to see her closed ones. When she opened them again he smiled at her. He wasn't sure how he looked covered in white, but he could imagine it brought out what little white he had in his hair and accented his eyes. This pale was something he found attractive in other people. A little bit of skin tone suited him.
He looked at his hands. Yes. That was a little to pale for his liking. Primer. That was why Cassiel dealt with it. "Bed then?" he asked as he continued to look at his hands. She was tired, he could tell that much.

Femi couldn't help but offer him a small, happy little smile when she opened her eyes. When he smiled at her like that, it just made her feel so... special. Like she was someone worth smiling at. Worth touching. Even as tired as she was, she felt a thrill of giddiness at the thought. He was just so wonderful. She would cherish him forever, and anyone who ever tried to take him away from her would Suffer. She would make sure of it. Love like their should last forever.
She put her small white paw in one of his, marveling a little at how closely they matched at this moment. He needed the contrast, yes... but it was still something that made her giggle tiredly. His primer was dry and she could touch him again. She slowly fell forward onto him, playful and tired, and hugged him around his middle. "Yes, I think bed would be nice, but don't put on clothes or they may stick a little," she murmured, pulling herself away and climbing onto the sheets. They would really need a thorough cleaning once he was completely painted and sealed. There was dust and who knew what else covering them in a thin layer, but she didn't really care just then.
"Tomorrow you get your skin back," she said, giggling.

No clothing then. Fine. He would be uncomfortable for her sake. "Okay then," he said with another smile as he went to curl up besides her. He enjoyed the hugging now. It was attention he had never received, not even from Cassiel or Mili. This... this is what love was then? He didn't really know. Kazifel would be happy either way. It was something.
He brushed her fur. Soft. He knew it was so very soft but he couldn't feel it. that would be coming soon enough. The time they spent together was nothing in comparison to all the years he had been waiting for this. He was happy at last and he didn't want it to end.
It wouldn't it would last forever. The doll didn't remember closing his eyes, but he had done so. He found himself opening his eyes to sunlight spilling in the window. It was time to wake up. It was time to get his skin back wasn't it? Did Femi need to eat? He couldn't remember how it really worked anymore. He simply stared back at her, waiting for her to wake.
