His head spun as he tried to piece together what had happened in his mind. He had passed out and then...been brought up here. Heilyn had been good enough to bring him dinner and some tea and...and...
She changed into her Human form and gave him a little smile and his eyes went wide, pupils shrinking as he stared, mouth slightly open.
They had...
And then...Varestes?!?
"We....oh hills! Oh nononononooooo....oh no. I can't have- Aaa! Oh god what will people think?"
He whimpered, staring at her pitifully.
"Oh hills, I shouldn't have, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!"
At the mention of bringing up a servant, he leapt up and intended to rushed to the bathroom.
"No! No, no need. I have something right here, I-I can get it for you, please."
His entire body spasmed as he jumped up and realized that he lacked clothing. Reaching desperately for clothing, he pulled it on in a rush and ran for the small bottle that he so rarely used in his cabinet.
He brought it out and handed it to Heilyn, still with a pathetically frantic look on his face. His hair was a mess and his bangs were spread across his face, he was blushing bright red and cringing at the pain his head was giving him. He hurried back from his side table a spoon and poured out a little and passed it to the Coyote.
Oh hills what was he going to do!?

Heilyn raised an eyebrow. At this point, why would she care about what anybody thought. Here she was, concerned who this could make or break their relationship, and here he was having a spaz attack over what people, who weren't a part of their relationship thought.
"Clearly, you are unfamiliar with my reputation around the Court. Trust me, I don't care. Let the servants and Members have a field day, fine. You are the King of Hearts. Believe it or not, you are a likable person. The only thing people will think is how could you stoop to the level of me. And, quite frankly, when I start walking around the palace in my Human form, they won't think any less of you." It was an arrogant thing to say, but there were many servants and members of the Court who wished for Bernard to find someone, preferably someone pretty. She put her spoon with the liquid in his mouth, just to shut him up, then took the bottle and took a sip out of it and handed it back to him.
"Calm down, and then we'll talk," she had little patience for panicking, even from people she liked. She then proceeded to fix his hair until he felt like talking. Why didn't just shift down into his Bipedal form to put on his clothing and fix his hair was beyond her. Were it anybody else, she would've assumed they thought they were too good for her to shift in front of her. But Bernard... why?

She didn't...she didn't care? Well, he sure as hell did! People would laugh at her, good god, they would probably make her life unbearable if they found out...and as far as he went...would anyone ever trust him again?
"Clearly you don't understand how the Courts can urgh-" She jammed the spoonful of liquid into his mouth and he swallowed to avoid choking. She handed him the bottle and he took it only to stop it from crashing to the floor as she moved behind him and began to toy with his hair.
He tried to move over to the edge of his bed to sit down with a groan and put his head in his hands...he also hadn't quite realized how much taller she was than him. He was only 5'10...she had to be at least 6'2 or 3...he actually shivered as another part of his mind finally registered and gave him a blow for....doing this with anyone for allowing himself to be intimate with anyone who wasn't Lin...
"Calm down? Calm down? I've been horrible! I can't believe I would do that, Heilyn I'm so sorry...oh Hills..."
Her fingers in his hair felt...good...he shuddered again and wished she would stop...
"Please, stop...I don't...I don't know what I'm supposed to feel...Heilyn. I'm not...I've never..."
Hills, how was he supposed to explain this? His head suddenly snapped up and he gave her a slightly frightened look
"You, you got hurt last night! Are you ok? I don't even remember what really happened I..."
Oh god...what could he do?

She stopped fixing his hair as requested and set her hands in her lap. Her expression became neutral as she attempted to hide her growing annoyance. Honestly, it was just sex. What was the big deal?
"I'm fine. I heal fast," it was true. She was healthy, had a fast metabolism, and Gods knew she came home with a fair share of injuries enough to rival her mother. "You remember that King of Spades got in, right? You did do anything to hurt me, if that's what you're worried about."
"There was nothing wrong with what you did. I was a willing participant, and would've been were I sober, so you did nothing wrong. If this is really such a horrible thing, I will share the blame." Her brow furrowed. Her headache was subsiding, and as it did so, she remembered. She remembered him calling her Lin... was it that Queen, or was it a pet name for Heilyn?
"What's really wrong, Bernard?"

She took her fingers out of his hair and he stopped feeling quite so twitchy...that was...quite the spot for him it appeared...
"Yes...I remember...I'm so sorry, I must have forgotten to shield the room against him before I... Damn. I'm...I'm just glad you're ok."
He stared at her forlornly as she tried to explain herself. Nothing wrong? Good lord did she think this was just a casual thing? Hills, he was in trouble....
"Ah, no...there's no blame that really needs placing..."
Except for me...I'm a moron...He thought, hunching over so that his upper half rested on his knees and suppressing a scream of frustration.
"What's really wrong? I...nothing, it's nothing. I'm just being an imbecile, I'm sorry." He whispered, not sure what to do, surely if he told her, she would tell him to get over himself...something his nephew encouraged him to do on a weekly basis...he didn't think he could stand to hear that right now though.
Lin...what have I done?
"It's stupid, I'm being a fool...I'll be fine in a few minutes, I'm sure..."
He still didn't raise his head, he couldn't look her in the face, couldn't stand the annoyance. He would just wait a few minutes and put the mask back on like he always did, and move on with the situation.
[OOC: If she prods again, he'll probably tell...he's just afraid of getting bitch-smacked X3]

She scoot in, closing the gap between them and put a hand on his back, assuming it was okay to touch him again.
"I'd love to agree with that statement. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you can get over this unnecessary guilt you're feeling. However, since you didn't specify your answer, I am unsure what to think." There was that blunt Bog Dweller attitude again. She didn't realize she did it sometimes. It was just a faster and more efficient way of getting things done than beating around the bush.
"There was something you said last night. Twice, if I'm not mistaken. You muttered a woman's name, Lin," she put a finger under his chin to raise it up to look at her. "What did you mean by that? Was that a shortening of my name, or something else?"
He never specified their relationship, but now she was beginning to wonder. His expression always softened when he said her name. Before he fell asleep he muttered it. The way he said "my Queen"... She could not understand being to in love and attached to anyone to let that get in the way of future relationships. She never experienced it herself, not yet, but she knew it existed. How often had she heard her own father, to this day, wake up crying Rhiannon's name? No matter how much he denied it, it made him cold, especially at Heilyn sometimes.
...after this, answer, her mind was burning to know just what in the hell his relationship with that Spade was... What was his name again...?

[X3 You're doing a great job! *Fluffs* I shall try to be as great! D8]
The bluntness of her statement just made him bury his head further with a groan. Unnecessary guilt? It felt necessary to him...
He was about to attempt a reply when her next statement smacked him in the face like a brick...he had what?!?
"I...I can't..."
She lifted his face and he let her do so without any resistance...at least he hadn't started crying or something stupid like that...the humiliation would probably have killed him on the spot.
"It was...something else..." His face burned crimson but at this point...if she had figured out this much...he may as well tell her. "Lin...was my Queen. While my nephew is now...it doesn't mean the same thing..." Hills this was difficult to explain... "I....would say that I loved her and when she.... died...it kind of killed me too..."
He ended the sentence in a whisper, not sure if Heilyn would laugh at him. This hurt to say but...did she really even want to know?
Her touch at least, was comforting and he leaned into it a little, hoping she wouldn't smack him for being a dunce.

[*is fluffed* 83]
Heilyn was silent for a while, her suspicions confirmed. She watched him as she turned this over in her mind. she was beginning to remember. Serafino, was Lin's son. This man before her loved Lin... but Serafino was not his son.
She took a breath in and released it slowly. No, perhaps he was not being as dumb as he thought, but it was still an inconvenience. When he leaned into her touch, she began running her fingers through his hair again.
"I see," was all she said after a pause. That was all she needed to know. She did not want to push it any farther, considering how distraught he was. He had put his clothes back on, but he had not put his hair back up. She searched the floor as she spoke. "I have encountered similar situations. My father, for instance. Perhaps you are not being as stupid as you think," a soft smile reached her face. Oh! there it is! She reached down to pick up his hair tie, "Then again," she nudged him lightly coming back up, hoping to lighten the situation a bit, "I always thought my father was a bit of an idiot, so I can't really say for sure~"
She crawled behind him and began brushing his hair with her fingers, gently as possible working out knots.
"So... who was that man? The Spade. How do you know him?"

[D8 Pinches your damn cute, fluffy, cheeks!]
She started running her fingers through his hair again, but this time...it felt more calming than anything else...she had gotten the hint, if nothing else.
"I'm sorry, this is probably far more than you had wanted to get involved in...I'm not normally this bad, Heilyn..." He murmured, hoping he hadn't busted the friendship for good, his mind burying the feelings of betrayal he felt he had caused within himself and trying to get himself under control.
"Yes, I do like to think that I'm not too much of an idiot, but you never know..." He muttered, but a smile twitched at the corners of his mouth...if she could at least relate, and she wasn't shoving him off or anything...
"Well, you know us old people we do tend to lose it after awhile." He joked, letting her put the tie back into his hair before turning to face her. He still looked a little peaky but he was smiling again. Turning his body toward her he sighed, then leaned forward and hugged her, tightly.
"I really am sorry for acting like that, you're just the first person since...well, that I've given a damn about anywhere near like what I'd...felt before. I'm just a bit of an emotional wreck."
That was an understatement. But he didn't want her to feel hurt either.
"Ah...him. I know him through the Courts...what do you want to know about him?" Bernard looked a little miffed, but not at his present company, more at the thought of the Spade King.

[ Mwee! x33] Heilyn shrugged. "It happens." She finished tying his hair, then nudged him as he made fun of himself again for being old. "Oh, stop," she rolled her eyes. She understood, but didn't seem to fully realize that he was, in fact, old. then it was Heilyn's turn to give a deer-in-the-headlights look. "Anywhere near... what you felt before...?" He didn't mean... Hmm, this was going to be interesting, wasn't it? She "I just wanted to know why he seems to obsessed with you. Unhealthily so, especially since you don't seem to care for him at all. And why, he is clearly a member of the Courts, with title, but he acts like... that." That meeting had been a touch overwhelming. If she were to ever meet him in a public setting... she had no idea what she would do.
