Bernard shrugged and crammed the last bit of toast in his mouth. "You keep saying that...not even a Corvie... If you don't mind my asking...why is it that you dislike them so much? You started to tell me before but we got...distracted..."
He swallowed and got up to grab a glass of water...he wished he had some tea...and yet... With Heilyn still in the room, he was almost glad there wasn't any.
"The straps should work well, yeah. I've watched that trans;ate fairly easily. Just make sure that it's high enough up the thigh or right by your ankle or you Bipedal form might have it slip somewhere...unpleasant..."
She reached out and helped him tug a knot out of his hair. He bit his lip and blushed, backing up a little and muttering that he was fine. He still wasn't sure what she wanted out of this...relationship. One minute it seemed like she was afraid of intimacy...the next it seemed like she wanted nothing more. He was confused and wished she'd make up her mind...so that he could make up his.

"Hmmm... perhaps I should stop taking my personal vendetta against the Chemical Corvies out on all of them..." she paused, took off her gloves and continued working on his hair, only vaguely aware of his discomfort, more concerned with the feeling of the touch. Gods, that felt just marvelous. "I've had two unfortunate run-ins of kidnapping attempts by Corvies in the Capitol, not including the down-right uncomfortable social interactions. I've found that though my region makes me valuable to the Courts, it also makes me quite valuable to those of a... less desirable status," she moved to touching his face... she had quite a lot of the touch the evening before... but she just couldn't get over how it felt. It was so different from the touch she was used to. Her eyes followed her hands as they traveled, a little lost in thought.
When she finally realized how uncomfortable she was undoubtedly making him feel. She froze, realizing the connotations that could be inferred from her actions. Clearing her throat she leaned back, away from him, feeling a bit of heat in her face, annoyed at herself for being so oblivious. She picked back up a fork and went back to eating. Food. Food was a good thing.
"Even in normal conversation it seemed like most of the Corvies I've spoken to ended it with 'Have you ever considered being experimented on', 'I'd pay you real well', 'I have a friend...', and anything else that pushed me toward putting me on a lab table. I'm sure there are those from the Bog who would love it, but not me. I have a job I was assigned to do. Being constantly reminded of what I am to them and how happy most of them would be to have me does not create positive feelings toward them from me."
She caught her reflection in the fork, seeing a pink tint to her honey-tinted skin. She did a double-take... was she...? The sight of it being so obvious made her go slightly redder... and then again in surprise. What the HELL?! A hand went to her face as an eye twitch in annoyance of being unable to control this outward expression of her thoughts. She huffed quietly and went back to eating, pretending it didn't exist.

"Personal vendetta? Hills Heilyn, what happened?"
He had heard of Corvies getting a bit...carried away but really, Heilyn seemed able to take care of herself, what could have-?
"Ah....that would do it. I had wondered but...yes, I do know a few who would probably sell their left arm for a sample of your skin's oil..."
He grinned and shrugged, hoping the topic hadn't been too much to ask...it hadn't seemed to be. She then leaned forward and...touched his face, moving her hands gently over his features. He leaned into it for a split second, before her intent gaze caused him to pull back and get up to grab that glass of water.
He felt hot under the collar...he couldn't allow himself to keep falling into that...he was too old for her, she said she didn't want anything intimate...and he still....loved Lin...
"Granted, some are pretty inconsiderate...I've met one or two before who've asked me if they could have a finger or two. Not all of them are like that though...the medicinal Corvies are a pretty nice bunch, like Temmin our resident physician. The mechanical Corvies are pretty incredible too...I'm rather fond of electricity."
He said with a smirk as he felt his own blush die down a bit. He took a quick note of hers and pretended not to notice at all.
"I trust none of them have ever hurt you, though?" He asked, wondering... "I remember when I first walked into Corvistowne...nearly lost me head because I didn't take someone seriously...s'where I met Deidra."
He muttered, ruefully...he remembered that.

She bit a fingernail as she listened to him talk. She blamed it on the fact that she was distracted by their conversation that she had not yet figured out her feelings.
"I actually rather like the mechanical Corvistownes myself. I want to see if there's a way to get some to come to the Bog with me and introduce showers to the Bog populous. I can assure you with how we love to be clean, showers would be a big hit." The only problem would be getting all that metal for the piping... she thought, Ever since steel sources have caught wind of how rare metal is, they've been gouging... "I, however, am unsure of having large quantities of electricity put in place, considering the reaction the air has to fire...[/i]
On our first meeting, I was very physically attracted to this man, but by the end of it that was replaced with a very formal respect. That feeling carried over into all my interactions with him, seeing him as almost a father figure. someone I could go to for advice and who would always make time for me if he could. When did that change...?
"Yes, you had mentioned going to Corvistowne, but you have not before met this Deidra chick," she tilted her head, a smirk made a presence on her face at the sight of his expression as he mentioned the woman. This should prove to be an interesting story~

The magician grinned a little and nodded.
"Mechanical Corvies are fascinating, I can't usually even guess at what they're making until it's completed...have you seen their automobiles? Absolutely amazing..."
He smiled and shook his head a little at the shower comment. No piping...he couldn't imagine how that would be...he'd always been spoiled with running water and electricity, his parents had been powerful enough for that and then in the palace... The only places he could remember not being treated to such luxuries were on his travels...but then he had been in an adventure mindset so it hadn't mattered.
"Electricity could be a problem in the Bog, yes...maybe with extra rubber tubing though, extra rooms and precautions...it could work, it would just be difficult."
Bernard rubbed at his temples lightly for a moment before bothering to continue. He reached around the Coyote for a glass of water and heaved a sigh.
"Heh...Deidra. She was my, um... first love I guess you could say..." He turned the water glass in his hands and tried not to think to hard about her, even though they were still on good terms, the memory stung a bit... "She picked me up right after I went to Corvistowne and allowed me to stay at her place, she'd been wanting a sample of Hearts tissue, so I gave her two feathers in exchange for the room and board... Best exchange I could have hoped for. She was a pink Corvie, a Feline...really enthused in figuring out anything she could about how different Suits were alike."
He shrugged and smiled a little.
"We were both really into the idea, actually, seeing if we could transfer powers...I hadn't even realized she was interested in me until she uh...became forward." He flushed pink and sipped at the water. "If you were wondering why I lived in Corvistowne for four years...well, she's why. I really thought we had something...together. I just came back one day to find most of her equipment gone and a very cheerful note telling me that she'd needed another Corvie and had gone off with one... I later found out he was a rather nice Equine, mechanical Corvie...big guy. I had wished she would have talked to me about it...but she was always a little...quick to decide things."
He tried to grin it off and looked anywhere but at the Coyote.

Heilyn took a sip of apple juice and put the glass down, nodding her head.
"I've only seen one. Remember the roommate I mentioned? She had a date with a Corvie guy once who picked her up for their date in one of those. She was elated, I was... shocked..." she mused for a second, staring off into space, remembering.... then she suddenly blinked and shook her head, "but the guy turned out to be a sleezebag who's arms I had to break that evening when their date was over." She took another sip of her drink. Yes. Having dear Gertrude come home that evening in tears, having to fly home, feathers all out of place and a rip in her dress did not put Heilyn in a happy mood. And then having the nerve to follow her back to try to finish what he started? Heilyn had to admit to show your face like that again, it took balls.
Good thing she took care of that pesky little problem, too.
But it's not like Bernard needed to know the details of that particular evening. She merely shrugged at the idea of electricity in the Bog. Heilyn would have none of it. It was far too risky... but now was not the time for what other people called "paranoia". She listened to the story, unsure what to call the feeling she felt at the end of it. She never understood people like that. If someone spent so much time with someone else of their own freewill, wouldn't they care enough about the person to at least owe them a better explanation? A warning, maybe? Even if Bernard hadn't seen the signs, the frank little Bog Dweller thought that some sort of conversation should've at least happened.
Boy, this guy just couldn't catch a break, could he? Well, until I came along that is, she thought, honestly thinking she did him a favor.
"That... I find that rather unfair, really, but I suppose we all only find One that really works out for the long run, right? The rest of 'em ultimately don't work out one way or another," .......What an odd way to...
...never mind. Strange Woman.
She nibbled on a piece of toast, her eating having slowed down by now. A smirked crossed her face, "So, what did you two end up finding out?" It would be nice, for once, to hear "Suit doesn't matter" to come from someone who wasn't a Bog Dweller... however, it would be interesting to hear what exactly the similarities and differences were....

Bernard grimaced at the story of what had happened to her room mate.
"Hills, that's unpleasant...your room mate must have been glad to have you around. Some people...can't take a no...idiots."
He shook his head and set the water glass down, losing all interest in food or drink as he leaned back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling and wondering in the back of his mind what Betsy would have to say about all of this...
Even as he thought it, he knew the answer... A lot...
"Breaking arms would seem a problem solver in my book though. Not too many people would be back for more of that as far as I'm aware. Shame though...most mechanical Corvies have to learn to develop more restraint than that to be able to function in their work...I wonder if he was as much of a failure back home as he was at romance?"
He smiled at her thoughts. Unfair? Yes...he supposed it had been but...if it meant she wouldn't have been happy.
"While I agree that I would have appreciated some warning...it's still good to know that she found someone she could really be happy with...at least for awhile. She's a widow now but...she was happy. We're still on fairly good terms, Deidra and I... Hmmm, no...I never really did find one that worked in the long run...and it's a little late now for me to start looking." And I would just sit there and compare them...it wouldn't be fair...
He threw the Coyote another grin as he followed the line of light on the ceiling.
"What did we find? Not as much as we had hoped, really. She was able to figure out a very strong genetic connection between Hearts and Diamonds...and a strong one between Diamonds and Spades, their blood samples matched up on a cellular level if you can believe that... Clubs...they stood out, their genetic build was very different from the other Suits, we couldn't figure out why, it still bothers me a little..."
He shrugged, figuring that if she wanted specifics, she would ask.
[X3 Yes, yes, he does. Poor man. <3]

"Heh, yeah, she was very happy I was there. She did nothing but complain about my presence while I was there, but I knew she liked having me around. Respectable woman, excellent with business, but a real moron when it came to romance," she shrugged, scoffing at the idiot of a Bird whom she cared for far more than she was willing to admit, "but enough of that mess."
Heilyn honestly believed this Deidre woman had been cheating on Bernard. How can a decision like that be made that quickly? There had to have been something going on before then. How could she have possibly thought it was a good idea to leave someone, a lover of 4 years, to go with someone else on a whim? She shrugged, shaking her head.
"She may have been happy, but you deserve a little more respect than that. It honestly bothers me that you can just shrug that off," Heilyn pushed her plate away and leaned on the table, looking at him. Him being able to just shrug it off either meant he was a push over and let people walk all over him or he had been hurt too many times in the past and dealt with his problems by pushing them down.
Or both.
"I will say, it's a bit late for you if you wanted children, but what's wrong with keeping your bed or arms open for someone willing?" ...what is wrong with this man? Why doesn't he think he's good enough? Her brow furrowed slightly at the information regarding Clubs. I mean, it was odd that they were the only ones where a Club did not need to be present in the parents for one born of the suit to come about, save for between two red Cards... but did it really--
"Oh." was all the slightly surprised Coyote could bring herself to say. She had been raised to believe difference had very little connection with superiority or inferiority. Sure, Hearts were rare, but that didn't automatically make them better. Who were the best at purifying water? Spades. At tending to and providing good food for the town? Clubs. So what the hell was the problem? She never would have guessed there was an actual genetic difference.
She suppressed a sigh, curious but at the same time a touch anxious at the truth. She refused to believe anything that implied her Queen was inferior.
