It has recently come to my attention that, even though everyone seems to be having a pretty good time in the Courts right now, there are some Courts that have a lot of family up-and-coming in the ranks. These chilluns may be eying the Court spots of their elders, or they may be interested in a bout of collaboration. While I appreciate that players are having loads of fun with these plots and that the Courts are fun to run, especially through family lines (just look at Fino and his family's ties to the Court), a handful of players filling up a lot of the available spots in a Court may be unfair to some other players. This observation applies to a lot of people, from Jenn's Donnie and Lior and Thyme eying the Courts to Theo's mafia family to the mighty Raider invasion of colorful mouselings.
In order to keep this game running as a collaborative board, I'm going to have to limit the amount of Queen and King spots that can be claimed by an individual player's characters. The limits are as follows:
- No more than two titled Queens across all of the Courts, only one of which can be 'The' Queen of a suit
- No more than five titled Kings across all of the Courts, only one of which can be 'The' King of a suit
If there are any players currently above this limit, you guys are grandfathered in and just fine with your titles. I don't think there's anyone exceeding that limit right now, however, which is really awesome. If you do think that your characters are going to run into a conflict with these limits, it's your responsibility as a player to work your plots around the limits.
For example, Just so you all know, the humor that follows was all Jenn XD she’s a silly thing <3 It’s just as she described. let's say that Kari (sorry to use you, Muffin, but you're easy and you have lots of powerful characters in the spotlight 83) had it in mind for, say, Rosemary to become a Queen. Cool. However, she wouldn't be able to nab herself a title unless either Theo or Xiven stepped down/was killed. Similarly, if Xiven decided that she wanted to be The Queen of Hearts and challenge Rai for the spot, something would have to happen to Theo's position before that would become possible for Kari as a player.
One of the biggest reasons behind this announcement is a scenario that Jenn and I had talked out in the room involving her characters. Say that Serafino hadn't died and had instead stayed on as The Queen. Further, let's say that he pestered the living snot out of Bernard until he became a Queen as well D8 Oh Hills, the misery!. Then he pushed a still-living Lani into the spot as well, because he felt 'safest' with his family all around him due to the events of his past and his mother's death.
Along comes a new player with a Heart that they've worked up to Kinghood, or even Queenhood, and they really want a spot in the Court. "No," says Fino with a disdainful glance, "I really don't want you in my Court. You're crude, you're an unknown to me, and you smell of the streets. Begone, unworthy peon, from my mighty presence. There shall be no place for you here... unless you challenge me." And then Fino proceeds to kill them with the force of his indifference.
Jenn, not satisfied with complete dominion over the Court of Hearts, sicks Donnie on Lysaras like... well, like a rabid wolverine who tears the woman to shreds and castrates every man within the confines of the palace. No more men for that Court, lest they fear for their masculinity. Then, like a power-hungry tyrant, she 'grinds' Parzifal up to Queen and has the gleaming surface of his hairless chest blind Theo in his remaining eye, causing him to fall out of a window at the top of the palace to his death. She controls Diamonds as well. And then, being Jenn, she decides to eat Aderlass like a snake and rule as Jenn, The Queen of Clubs. Mmm, barbecued rodent.
See how things could get out of hand if one person decided to on a nepotism spree? Heh. Not that Jenn would really be interested in eating sexy mice-men, though were she a Card, she would be a Club. To stave off this potentially contentious possibility, limits are being set in place.
Silliness aside, this is not being aimed at any one person, it is simply to keep things fair. Again, no Queen has to take on anyone they are truly uncomfortable with, but please remember that a full Court is a happy Court. Leaving one Queen with the paper work while you actually get out in the Kingdom and do some real work, or vice versa depending on how you roll, is always good for flexibility as is the constant available help. Just because they’re there doesn’t mean they’re an automatic threat. <3
Also, with Rabbits. I’m limiting the number of Jacks with warrens each player may have to three. Otherwise things will become a bloodbath of Rabbity-murder as all of the males scream ”Why the hell are there a thousand of us!?!?”
Have fun and mingle! Woo!
