Iria's golden dress swept just above the ground as shi walked serenely down the halls of the Court of Diamonds, heading toward an appointment that shi had scheduled with one of hir fellow Queens. Though a Queen, he was still male, but shi knew that respect would definitely be necessary in this situation; not only was he someone who had clawed his way up the ranks to his current station, but shi, as much as shi hated to admit it, sought his...approval. Not his permission, for shi didn't require that in the least. But considering that shi was bringing his daughter in to, eventually, become hir main King, shi felt that it would be best to establish good relations with one who would essentially be hir father-in-law. Shi stepped into the little room that had been set aside at hir request - a small meeting room, comfortable for a private encounter between two or three people without being too far into the private territory of any one Queen. It was neutral ground, a place where two Queens could meet without repercussions, without one holding power over the other. Adiva coughed quietly and snuggled up against Iria's leg, her purple collar contrasting her sand coloring. The cheetah had been doing hir best to bring the bandersnatch everywhere with hir, getting her used to all of her surroundings. A meeting like this would be a test for hir pet, but shi had a feeling that the little one would pass with flying colors. Unlike all of the bandersnatches that shi had seen before, Adiva was a quiet, docile creature, who seemed to like nothing more than being by her person's side. Iria looked about the room, nodding slightly to herself upon catching sight of the waiting teapot, steam drifting from the spout, and a pair of teacups awaiting both herself and His Majesty, Theofilus.

Theofilus didn't know the proper word for how he was feeling as he walked down the halls. A private meeting with Her Majesty Iria was awaiting him. He wasn't quite sure what to think. He had heard stories from his sons that Ceren was in fact planning to be come her King. Though he couldn't imagine that was why they were having a meeting even if he hoped that's why they were having such a meeting. Hesitation filled the man as he double checked his suit for wrinkles. He checked his top hat before turning the handle on the door. To his great surprise Iria was already in the room. At least he assumed it was Iria. There weren't that many Yarrow Garden Queens running around the palace. Theofilus smiled as he shut the door behind him and gave a bow. "You must be Her Majesty Iria. It's a pleasure to meet you."If it weren't for formalities Theofilus would be scared to death. Anyone from Yarrow Gardens made him nervous, but another Queen who had been here longer than him terrified him. This meeting was an interesting endeavor for him.

Iria turned as the door opened and looked over the blue-suited figure with calm, assessing eyes. Handsome enough, yes, if one liked that sort of thing. It really wasn't hir cup of tea, but shi supposed that other Cards might find him reasonably attractive. Plus, there was his rank to consider as well, which must give him quite a bit of an advantage in whatever dealings he had with potential mates.
However, it wasn't his dealings with mates, or anyone else, that shi was here to discuss. It was, in fact, hir own, and shi brought a gentle smile to hir lips as shi moved to greet him, dress whispering over the floor. Adiva trotted at hir heels and stared up at the Lakelander, but didn't sneeze challenge as any other bandersnatch may have. The Gardens Queen's expression was warm and welcoming as shi finally stood before him. Shi was shorter than him by quite a bit, but it wasn't anywhere near the gap that would occur if shi wear dealing with a Card in their Bipedal form, who tended to be quite a lot larger than hir small Human form.
"And you must be His Majesty Theofilus," shi responded. "The pleasure is all mine. Thank you for taking time from your schedule to come and meet with me. I hope this isn't a bother for you?"

It was nice to know that he wasn't going to die a horrible death by being in the same room with a Yarrow Gardens Queen. He never really had good luck with someone from the Gardens. Staying on decent terms with one would be a god sent gift.
"It's not a bother at all," Theofilus said with a gracious smile. "I'm just curious to know why I would be called to a private appointment." Theofilus removed his top hat, still smiling cordially at Iria. He was quite amazed by her bander. It seemed very well trained and mild mannered at that.
"I have to say that's an amazing little bander you have there. Mine is an absolute terror when it comes to other people. You must be very good at training her or you were very lucky to find such a well mannered girl." Small talk was the easiest way for Theofilus to stay calm. That and he was thankful to see that there would be tea in this meeting.

"Oh, this little meeting really isn't all that important. I merely like to stay on good terms with all of those in the Court, you see, and we haven't really had a chance to meet and talk before," Iria said warmly, stepping aside so that the two of them could move further into the room, approaching the table that was set for them. "There is also something of a more...personal matter that I wish to ask of you, but that can wait until after we're settled," shi added when they reached the table.
"Oh, little Adiva?" The Gardens Queen smiled down at the bandersnatch, who looked docilely up at hir and coughed. "She is a wonderful little gift from a future King of mine. Whatever training she may have had was under my suitor's hand, not my own, though I imagine that much of it comes from the fact that she does seem to be naturally gentle." Adiva had been a perfect gift; Ceren truly had outdone herself, finding a bandersnatch of such a temperment from a normal little shop in the city. Of course, maybe it was because she wasn't of pure blood, and thus hadn't been bred for the agression and strength that many liked for their fighters. Iria knew that shi would never consign hir pet to the fighting ring.
"Would you care for some tea? It's a blend that my father herself sent, from her own gardens back home. I haven't found anything quite of its like, either here in the Court or in the Capital City," shi offered, gesturing toward the teapot.

Personal matter? Was this really about Ceren? He shouldn't have known what his daughter was up to, but he couldn't help but find out all he could from his other children. It was wonderful when they spied on each other simply because they wanted to out do each other. He, of course, had to remind them that there was no need for such a competition. Not like they ever listened.
Children and banders aside this was an interesting situation to be in. At least he knew it was a friendly meeting. Theofilus still hadn't met everyone in the courts yet, and he was still very unsure about the whole thing. He never expected to be able to become a Queen.
"That would be lovely," He said. He hadn't sat down and had a proper tea time in a long while. He was always too busy with paper work or some other task to bother.

Iria smiled brightly at him when he accepted the offer. Well, maybe he had a few things going for him that set him out above the normal men that shi worked with. Most of them barely tolerated tea, though Ceren had mentioned before that he enjoyed it. That gave him a mark on the good side of hir personal scoreboard, and idly shi wondered if he had such a scoreboard about hir, and just how well shi was doing on it. Not that it really mattered, of course.
Shi gestured politely for him to seat himself even as shi poured the tea hirself, the fragrant scent rising upward. It wasn't that shi didn't trust a servant to do this, it was just easier for all concerned if shi kept the whole thing quiet and private. Beside, shi was playing hostess to an extent, and thus it was only polite for hir to tend to hir guest.
"Would you care for some cream or sugar?" Useless banalities, quiet small talk to ease the way into the situation without seeming rude or uncouth. Such things were expected, after all.

This was nice, he hardly expected Iria to serve the tea herself. Her was the proper term wasn't it? The Queen was very androgynous when it came down to it. He wasn't about to mix up his pronouns, since she did hail from Yarrow Gardens.
"Sugar would be lovely," He said. He watched her put a spoonful of sugar in his cup. Good enough. He didn't hesitate to take a sip of tea. It was a unique blend to say the least. "This tea is quite amazing, but I suppose we should get on to business then? I can't imagine either of us have much to talk about over tea, unless your hobbies include accounting and reading romance novels." Theofilus hoped that Iria wasn't the time to read romance novels. He just read them for the sheer amount of humor that came from the same twelve plot devices. That wasn't here or there, they were here for business.

Reading romance novels? No, not particularly; certainly there were some people in hir Court that had little more to do than sit around and look particularly pretty while attempting to attract a mate of suitably high rank, and romance novels must help them pass the time. But Iria hirself had never had the time for them, and hir mother and father hadn't seen much use in them either. So no, shi didn't particularly have much interest in them. And as for accounting...no. Shi really didn't understand that at all.
"Of course," shi said politely, acceding to his request to get on to business. Some that shi'd met would prefer to continue the small talk longer, but it was always best to met your guest's preferences. Now, how to best word this? Well, it might be best to play on the "young, cute, and very much in love" image, and so shi allowed hirself to blush just a bit, barely noticable, but an obvious cue to any Queen who had spent much time in the politics of the Court.
"You see..." A deep breath, as if nervous. "I am currently courting your daughter, Ceren, and wish to ask for your approval of our relationship." There. It was out.

Theofilus raised an eyebrow. He wasn't sure if she was acting shy or actually was. Everyone in the courts seemed to have a special way of playing politics. Treading lightly also seemed to be everyone's way of playing politics around here, and playing it shy certainly was that.
The sparrow sipped his tea before saying a word. It didn't actually matter what he said. His daughter would do what she wanted. She was a free spirit and could careless about his thoughts on her relationships. He honestly didn't mind. It was her life and her free will after all. He was just surprised that she was so determined to chase after a Queen.
"I, of course, approve you courting my daughter," He said quietly before taking another sip of tea. "However, I do take family very seriously. If you plan to be part of it, or plan to make her part of yours, I expect you not to break her heart. If you do I can't say I'll be particularly happy." The sparrow wasn't particularly sure how the other Queen would take that. He would just have to sip his tea and wait now, wouldn't he?
