Fino listened with an air of mild disinterest, paying more attention to her expressions and gestures than he did her words. He got the gist of what she said and it made his lips turn down briefly in thought.
She was saying things he wanted to hear, and they were things that interested him. If information was her specialty, she would know this. Tea was akin to water for the Queen, paperwork was the bane of his existence, and she had already proven herself to be excitable, or enthusiastic as she chose to call it, so disproving that would be pointless. Time in the Highlands was valuable for a number of reasons, contacts not being the least of them. And information leaks... were always something on his mind. Such thoughts helped to fuel his general paranoia, and talk of the Highlands in particular sparked a reaction.
He narrowed his eyes and considered. "Well. You have gathered a decent amount of information about me, at any rate, enough to pique my interest. Sources of information can be double-edged swords. Based on what you've mentioned, I'm not quite ready to utilize the kinds of skills you are offering without a second opinion. Since you have already quite effectively alienated my uncle, would you be willing to subject yourself to yet another's scrutiny?"

Oh that was fantastic! Peaches refrained from doing a small victory dance and instead laced her hands together and placed them in her lap as he spoke. Not so fantastic about alienating someone important, but that could be worried about later.
"More than willing, Your Majesty," she smiled. It was mostly a smirk, but she was doing a good job of hiding it, at least she thought. Peaches mentally blinked for a moment. Who exactly would be judging her character? Which person on her list of subjects was "trustworthy" enough to be used for such a thing?
It was a bit late to go back on her word. Plus she had honestly wanted to be in courts since her childhood. Going through a bit of social awkwardness was the price she had to pay for getting caught climbing through Bernard's window. Stupid working late thing. If only she had timed it differently.

Fino smirked lightly and stepped back, calling his axe to him with a thought and placing it on the ground, where it promptly transformed into the body of a young girl. Her dress and appearance proclaimed her a Highlander more surely than anything anyone could have said. Besides maybe her attitude. That screamed it even louder. She stood with her hips slightly akimbo, arms crossed, and tossed her hair imperiously over one shoulder. She looked anywhere from twelve to fourteen. "This is Marie," the Queen said coolly. "If she decides that she likes you, I will give you a spot immediately. If she decides that she does not hate you, I will consider you strongly."The little human girl ran gold eyes up and down Peaches's form, her expression sitting at a comfortable 'neutral snotty' at first, then settling into something more even. "Fino already said that he thinks you're stupid. Why should I say anything different?" As usual, she chose to ignore half of the conversation earlier, the half she was less interested in.

Peaches blinked a few extra times than she needed to. For the love of all the freaking Cards in the world. Holy freaking hell she had not seen that before. Talk about an amazing gap in your information. She wasn't quite sure how her face reacted to such a surprise. She didn't even bother to cover it up.
"His Majesty thinks I'm stupid because I climbed through a window, and happened to run into his Highness Bernard." She shrugged, "But I do gather information so I may have purposely chosen his window so I wouldn't get burned to a crisp, torn to shreds or beaten to a bloody pulp. Maybe not. I ultimately just think using the front door is overrated. You can consider me stupid for that if you really want to, I really couldn't blame you."
Peaches had no idea how to address an ax that had just turned into a human and hadn't the slightest idea on how to impress a maybe twelve year old girl who was obviously a Highlander. Oh freaking well.

The girl watched Peaches with half-lidded eyes, smirking like a fiend at the shocked expression on her face. Wasn't that just perfect? Nobody expected her unless they'd seen her before, not even people who'd been warned before. She loved it most of the time.
"You crawled into the palace through Bernard's window?" she asked in a flatly amused voice, very deliberately not including his title. She also called the Queen 'Fino', which very, very few people were capable of doing. Those people being her, his uncle, and very occasionally one of his Kings. "Nice. Really nice. Good thing you didn't crawl into his bathroom and wind up in the toilet or something. That would have made you look even worse. Tell me, what did his face look like when he saw you?"
Fino had to refrain from rolling his eyes. He should have expected that question from her. Then again, he was a bit curious about the same thing.

Peaches had to force herself not to giggle. This was quite a lovely meeting after all. What was better than someone asking her about the look on someone else's face when she surprised them? It was honestly like being a kid and gloating.
Except it was more contained, even if she would be more than happy to break into a rant on how giddy she got when someone was completely surprised by her sudden appearance.
"His Highness took it better than most. His initial reaction was something along the lines of a wide eyed "am I dreaming?" sort of expression. It quickly went to wide eyed disbelief that someone would actually come through a window." She shrugged again. "I don't think I could do his expressions justice in words."
She had no idea if this was making a good impression or a bad one. Peaches wasn't about to question methods if it got her the job. Keeping it together was hard enough. This was quite an amusing situation all in all.

Marie smirked as Peaches described Bernard's surprise, wishing that she could have been their to witness his wide eyes. She'd caused many expressions to flit across his features before, although he had the stubborn tendency to be fascinated by almost anything she did. It was a side-affect of her being a weapon-turned-person, or so said her Queen. Whatever it was, she thought it was weird and didn't like him very much at all. Taunting him was far more fun.
"I've gotta say, I would have loved to be there. Seeing him with any expression besides 'oh, whee, you did something new' is always kind of fun." The girl rolled her eyes. "I swear, sometimes that man..." She trailed off when she caught a glimpse of Fino's face and just rolled her eyes again. "Anyway. Whatever. Was there something else you needed me to do besides talk to her and say that she isn't an outright moron? She's not bad. I kind of think she's funny. Maybe. We'll see."
The Queen's lips twitched upward slightly and he shook his head. Her personality was so abrasive. He loved watching her interact with people. "No. That should be fine. I'll take you recommendation into consideration." He said it in a serious tone, but something about his expression let his amusement show through clearly.

It was a small victory. At least, Peaches thought it was a victory, she couldn't quite tell. They certainly made her feel small. Highlanders were very good at doing that, The Queen doubly so.
The woman went back to lacing her fingers together, trying her hardest not to bounce on her heels. She honestly couldn't tell if she had a job or not. She wasn't sure if she could ask or not either. This never exactly crossed her thoughts before. It was a very bizarre situation after all. How many little girls were really axes and got to decide if you have a job or not.
What was that old saying about cats and curiosity? She hoped she didn't have to worry about the killing bit. She didn't want to be a crispy fried Peaches.
"So is it safe to say, Your Majesty, that you'll consider giving me a position in courts?" She felt like a child asking a silly question. She had to will herself not to roll her eyes at her own question.

Fino placed one hand on the girl's shoulder and drew her closer, where she smiled and wrapped her arms around his waist, content to stay there and just watch the people around her make fools of themselves without comment. For the moment. She could feel satisfaction in her Fino's mind and that was what mattered most to her. She'd done what he needed and he was pleased.
"I would say that you are suitable for at least training at Court," the Queen finally agreed, inclining his head to the feline. "I do not, at present, have time to assign you a room or consider what duties might be suitable for one of your stated talents. I expect you to introduce yourself to my other Kings as you're able, and to His Majesty Shinrai as well. Being a Jack of this Court means that you will serve all of us. Seek out Dymphna for information in the meantime, but do not disturb her if she is unduly busy. So far as you are concerned, she is your senior, though she is also a Jack."
He turned his head away from her, a dismissal.
((You can end it. <3))
