NPC stands for Non-Player Character. This would count as characters without pictures, imaginary characters, and moderator-run shoppe owners.
NPC's are not encouraged on this board for the following reasons:
1. NPC's cannot gain points. None at all, as they do not actually exist on the board. No points may be recorded for them and other Cards do not gain points for meeting or playing with them.
2. NPC's cannot participate in board-wide activities. This means that your NPC cannot be used in breedings, cannot be involved in plot runs, cannot be subjected in contests, and cannot play with Admin characters.
3. NPC's encourage God-modding. This means that a player could decide that their NPC is the new Queen of Hearts, they would then decide on the NPC' powers on their own and proceed to wipe the floor with the current Queen and have a Non-player character, who can't participate in plot events, on the throne. This would also give people reign to have incredibly high-powered, ridiculous characters who can do the most outlandish things for no reason.
NPC's can be used for the following.
1. A small side-story, such as a character going home for the holidays being played with imaginary siblings or parents, they may be fun at the time but you would never order them and probably won't play with them again aside from referencing them.
2. You are in the process of purchasing a character. Commissions can take quite a long time to complete, especially with the amount of detail now involved. If you have ordered and paid for a character and are awaiting their arrival, you may start playing them around the board as they are in fact "created" and simply on their way. These characters are less NPC's and more characters on hold. They can be played for points and used in contests though they cannot use any abilities until these are posted with their pictures.
3. Characters in the Trading post. Most people are uncomfortable having their own characters giving away an item to less than savory others. An NPC can be used here, but they may only trade or sell real items you have acquired, not imaginary ones.
NPC's are not encouraged, use them if you feel you must or that they won't become involved.
By all means, be creative and have fun. Come up with amazing characters, you might be able to breed them out of other characters, win them in a contest, or order them in a commission, but please don't simply start playing them with others and expect them to function as actual characters.
Thank you.
